We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

As for law courses, courses like Science and Law, Gender and Law, Jurisprudence and Human Rights should never be compulsory. They should be made into optional courses, alongside a large number of commercially relevant courses. We also need more courses on tech law.
It will be nice if LI readers practising/interning can share such hot and spicy gossip!
I am a CS LLB, class of 2021, graduated from a respectable tier-2 college. I tried getting into corp law. No firm would take me since I had no work experience. Meanwhile I joined my dad he is a lawyer who is specialises in Indirect tax litigation. (Sales tax and now GST, a little bit of service tax as well). That being said, he has a 30% odd percent silo of compliance/return filing work as well. I have been with him for 1.5-2 odd years now, I've realised that he is not really interested in continuing work and he's kinda like doing it for my sake. I want to join some law firm in Delhi, Calcutta or Bombay etc. In their indirect tax team. I have gained a lot of drafting and compliance experience after working with my dad. My questions are:-
1. Will the law firms consider my work experience that I have with my dad.
2. That being said, is it a good time to switch now?
An assessment should at maximum be stretched to two months, which is enough time for a partner to gauge the capacity and learning curve of a candidate. And then you can at least elevate such candidate to the position of a Trainee, if found to be satisfactorily performing.
What's wrong in such expectations on the part of a candidate.
Why is the enrolment fee for advocates so high? Around 15500 for Delhi and may be more or less for other states.
When freshers are not even paid 10000 rupees and thereβs no concept of even fixed fee of advocates how can bar council of Delhi demand such high fees?

I will have to go to firms and deliver my resume while taking an accomodation on rent. My plan is to and try this for 6-10 months.
I can just tell them on what I worked during the internship
Yaha par to jo ____ ji bole wo hi law hai.
Dont trust anything written on CAM blogs, prolly written by some intern.
It is financially challenging apart from toxicity.
Thoughts, opinions?

Vivekanda International Foundation ( founded by Ajit Doval is quite RW too)
Anirudh Rajput (leading authority on International Law)
Harish Salve (Not really an academic but definitely a top legal expert, see his writings and interviews defending CAA and Art 370 abrogation)
Just few names that come to mind. The numbers would surely go up as most of the senior academics today are occupying these positions because of the tutelage they enjoyed under the Congress. Case in point, Mr.Nehru who fired respected academics like BR Shenoy and Jadunath Sarkar for refusing to parrot his Socialist propaganda. With this Govt, you can see gradually more RW scholarship becoming mainstream.
but it doesn't mean they are the only ones who get opportunity, one of my seniors, from a T2 city, a local school and (tier 2 NLU), got an internship opportunity with DYC, and he later went on to clerk for him, went to Harvard, became an assistant professor and DYC asked him to join him again once he became CJI.
So maybe there's hope for all of us.

Have saved 9.2 L as on date. Haven't invested, will start investing in Jan 2024, very minimal risk investments only. All savings from my salary only.
Haha, not sure if it was my calling, but at least it's more interesting than the corporate job (most of the time I was writing decorated emails, which I hated).
What is your reply
Can u help for a proper guidance 9150615422
So i m not sure if I should jump to corporate law and make my career or stay with parents and destroy my career. :(
2) Kian comes out in rage.
3) It's YOU who gets kidnapped and restrained in Kian's basement, and made to blog for Legally India.
I have sympathy for the struggles of others, but that shouldn't ruin our portal. The legal profession is tiered (for better or for worse). If this deluge of whine, then elite lawyers will no longer hang around LI message boards. Then it's a race to the bottom.
I don't want to work in India anymore. I can't afford a PG degree in UK/Australia. So I am considering Canada. So many of my school friends who did engineering have moved there after doing 3-4 years at Infosys/TCS type places. Is it feasible for a lawyer
Then I deleted for everyone, and told him it was a huge mistake, I'm sorry, won't be repeated, will be careful etc.
He replied after an hour with a cold text "um ok"
Then I asked, will this affect my future opportunities with the firm, what will happen
He replies He will speak to the partner.
Am I screwed?
We know who takes the brunt of this.
For practising in India?, you'll be wasting your time studying EU laws in law school
