I am a CS LLB, class of 2021, graduated from a respectable tier-2 college. I tried getting into corp law. No firm would take me since I had no work experience. Meanwhile I joined my dad he is a lawyer who is specialises in Indirect tax litigation. (Sales tax and now GST, a little bit of service tax as well). That being said, he has a 30% odd percent silo of compliance/return filing work as well. I have been with him for 1.5-2 odd years now, I've realised that he is not really interested in continuing work and he's kinda like doing it for my sake. I want to join some law firm in Delhi, Calcutta or Bombay etc. In their indirect tax team. I have gained a lot of drafting and compliance experience after working with my dad. My questions are:-

1. Will the law firms consider my work experience that I have with my dad.

2. That being said, is it a good time to switch now?
The practice is slightly stagnated a bit right now. In the sense that since GSTAT is yet to come. So far as the sales tax tribunal is concerned, the matters we have filed are not getting listed, these days the corruption there is so high that I've heard members taking bribes for remanding back matters, so we are avoiding getting matters listed at the moment. High court matters are still yet to come even though it's been like 2 years since he started them. Plus given the income from the compliance silo, he didn't really press on building a heavy appellate/litigation practice. We have a few AAR's at the moment but that's about it. I've tried taking initiative and change things a bit but my dad doesn't really appreciate that too well. And for whatever reason we have no CESTAT matters coming in.

So all things considered I feel if I leave and join somewhere else my dad can retire peacefully.
Those is completely untested but definitely try cold emailing partners especially at lakshmikumaran ....good work life balance and culture.
You mean a scenario like this is completely untested? Yes I can try cold emailing but I wanted to talk to some SA or PA first. Like How they recruit, can I get a referral, how much to prepare for the technical round, what are my realistic chances etc etc
