Please explain my dumbass how do I actually network and build some connections in order to secure my career. It'd be helpful if there's a how to guide for litigation and corporate networking.
Imagine how hard law-firms and chambers have hit non-NLUites - not to mention transactional business minded matrimonial market , inflation and ageing parents.
And be blacklisted by the HR. Great advice. There's something called professional boundaries. Cold mail without follow ups is fine, not calling and then demanding an interview.
Cuz he was born in the Gandhi family. I made it to a top NLU cuz I worked hard for it! A student from a top NLU would have used a better analogy than thisπ₯²
That's how the world works right? 1-2year of hard work and you get into IITB, the same gets you to a govt medical school. The same (maybe a few years more) makes you an IAS. You should try working hard for a year or two. That may actually turn things around!
Look up all the law firm parterns from tier 1, forget partners, SAs, A1,A2, all are from Nlus. They also spednd a good 5-10 in this profession but others dont get anyeere.
I'm from SLSP, and I networked by keeping in touch with people from every internship I did. When I say 'keeping in touch' I mean texting them for new year, liking their posts (and sometimes commenting) on linkedin, letting them know when i got placed and thanking them for their guidance over the years. It wasn't as hard as I expected! Don't be scared/awkward about texting people randomly. Worst case they'll ignore you, but best case you make connections. That being said, text meaningfully, and not in a way that wastes their time
I try networking by participating in Moots, Adrs, Paper Presentations, Offline Lecture Series in Nearby NLU. I try to connect with the partners who are judging or giving a lecture, I ask doubts, try to make an impression by discussing their area of practice.
Participate in internal competitions of college too. My college invites Alumni from tier 1 firms, Sr Counsels, Advocates to Judge, so I try to connect with them. They are more approachable.
All of this takes a lot of guts, but couldn't make it to top 5 NLUs and didn't want to take a drop, so I am making do with relatively more of a grind. You can too!
