Raj = Scindia or RS Rathore = Possible boost for NLUJ
CG = Baghel = status quo for HNLU
Tel = Cong = Boost for NALSAR
Take a look at JGLS attrition rate. they lose hundreds of faculty employees every year. I heard from someone in admin that 200 people quit last year. I worked there too- fairly corrupt in my view. Especially since I came from public universities and went to an elite american university after. quite a shock.
I never said that an SJD will land a job, but for a person without a JD, it is absolutely necessary to have one. Necessary, but not sufficient. I would say T14 is still the norm unless you want to teach at places that are incredibly parochial like Harvard and Yale who only take Harvard and Yale graduates. Except for UVA, I have not seen different T14 schools being perceived differently at all within US academia. Exceptions apply, of course, so better have a Harvard degree than one from Cornell, but that by itself cannot offset a weak CV otherwise.
Also, just to make it clear, i don't regret interning there since the people were good, they were supportive and taught me a lot of stuff and i am grateful to them for that.

In any case, as you say, the current NLS VC may be good, but I am looking at institutions rather than VCs. Plus, NLS does not pay well enough. Not really looking at NLUs, therefore. What about JGLS?

Not even UK/China/Canada. Indian students those who do Clerkship are average kids who want to have a recommendation letter and fancy work experience for US LLM - clerkship compensates for other issues like bad grades no publications and no jobs. Some European LLMs also prefer kids with clerkship.
Otherwise there is no benefits for a clerkship. In India law firms don't give any preference to candidates with llm. Kids with clerkships often have influence from families.
For Litigation - first one or two years clerking doesn't do any good. It's better you are in a chamber. Even thou you won't get anything. Your fundamentals will be small. Clerkship doesn't add much value.
What one must know is - in US law firms have real Litigation practice and firms have 50:50 Litigation corporate practice.
In India law firms (big ones) hardly do any Litigation. 80% work is corporate/commercial and only 20% is Litigation. Even this 20% Litigation firms rarely handle it themselves they are mere case managers and liason with local lawyers and engage senior advocates to get things done.
Therefore indian law firms don't consider clerkship as a valuable experience. It's better you join a real chamber if you want to lateral into a disputes team at a later point of time.
