Freshers, PLEASE trust me, don't start your career with specialising in something so niche. All funds team of the country are toxic. I'm 30 years old. Still living with parents. Don't have a job due to year gap. Trying for competitive exams. Can't crack any. Managed to get masters degree. Now trying for SET and NET. However for the past few years, continuously giving exams and failing each one of them is taking a toll. I'm a first gen lawyer and litigation was not getting any results, no work. Law firms won't hire me, plus I don't want to be a corporate slave. I like teaching, trying my hand at that but it's too much with the constant failure. I think I have only one option. This new year just made me realise how old and how much of a burden I am to myself. I can't keep forcing a smile anymore. Everything looks bleak. Does anyone have suggestions to switch off these emotions and be numb. Be an absolute robot. Just work without being affected by my feelings and surrounding. This really is a call for help. I'm reaching out here to discuss some concerns I have about recent faculty recruitments at NUJS. If you take a closer look at the profiles of these new faculty members, it's disheartening to see that, except for one or two, many seem to have questionable academic backgrounds. I reached out to a faculty, who could hardly talk to me in english for good 2 minutes and asked me to read 2 books to read to understand the topic. Can't something be done about this? It's crucial for the academic integrity of our institution. Let's open up a constructive dialogue and figure out how we can address this issue together. If you do your LLB from here, then you will either have to clear the foreign jurisdiction's equivalent of the Bar Exam that may further require certain years of experience or an LLB equivalent degree, depending on the jurisdiction. Only then can you practise there. LLM is not relevant in this context.

Let's talk about disrespect. It can change depending on the job. In jobs where you don't need to be super smart, like some labor jobs, workers are often treated badly and not respected. On the other hand people who have received education, attended prestigious colleges, and work at top-tier organizations still face unnecessary insults. the work you get at every vertical is different. The work of an SA (and responsibility) will take time to learn and perfect even with 4 years under your belt. Similar change when you become PA.

All in all in 3-4 years you can learn the entire life cycle of transaction fairly well.

MNLU has no actual college placements. actually its so bad that as far as i heard from someone in mnlu that the admin now has a new rule that only top 30 of the batch will get one month deemed attendance for internship (which they get in 4th and 5th year every sem) and only if its a top tier firm,the admin will prolly reconsider it but who knows after all the internal politics

This seems to be a fun little situation that I am stuck in.

Facts: I am an individual, and I didn't file my ITR within the due date (even though I was required to, lets not focus on why I didn't file). I was unable to file a belated return as well. Now based on my reading, filing an updated return could have been my last resort, but since my return will result in a refund, I cannot file an updated return as well. So effectively, even though I have no tax income tax liability, my refund is essentially gone for no fault of my own (basically some TDS/TCS was deposited which I forgot about).

Question: Is it possible for me to claim the refund somehow? Can I make an application to some income-tax authority seeking directions for a refund or file a PIL seeking directions for a refund?

MNLU Mumbai is Tier 3 at best.

Tier 1 firms are involve less vetting and more diligence where the former is kept for the senior rung of the people in your team. Due to this, it will take atleast 3-4 years to get a sound hold on commercials as well as their varied nuances. At Tier 2s and boutique firms, one's vetting exposure is higher along with due diligence owing to which 1 or 2 years is enough to absorb the fundamentals of M&A/PE/VC dealmaking.

You talk about GST compliances in response to a question on tax litigation. Compliance of any kind, including tax, is boring. Thankfully tax compliances are done by CAs and not lawyers. GST litigation mostly involves issues related to taxability, classification, applicable rate, exemption, valuation, credit, refunds, etc. Then there’s Customs, Excise, VAT, Trade remedies, WTO disputes. In case of direct tax, the issues involve determination of income, expenses, TDS payment, valuation/TP, etc. When VAT was introduced, it was said that the litigation will come down. The reality was it only increased. Concepts related to Customs law, export controls, trade remedies, VAT/GST are largely same across jurisdictions.
Just consider this: partners/counsel working at law firms doing direct tax work are invariably CAs (with law degree from CCS), but partners/counsel in indirect tax practice are mostly lawyers. The same pattern is reflected at the bar too!

I stayed at a pg in Ashok Nagar which costed 10k/ month (single room) without food, if your office is near mg road or Richmond circle, its a 15-20 min walk it will cost you around 5-10k for food, and other miscellaneous expenses and rest 5k for travelling to Kerala.

I think you should search for accomodation near office so that you could save a lot in travel

You seem to be the same troll who had a problem with another lawyer offering a half decent sum for a junior position too. Why are you getting so jealous and salty about the young lawyers trying to do their bit to address a systemic problem? I happen to know both the people. In Shrutanjay's case, the Fellowship is being sponsored by alum from several other NLUs too, including a successful entrepreneur. In Ashish's case too, he is only offering what he can pay to a decent junior, whose work he will also profit from. You seem to be the only one in need of validation here, not anyone else.

Hey, pursuing CA after BA LLB.

I'd strongly suggest you to write foundation and attempt Inter while you're in college. If you're fortunate, you'll clear Inter soon and can join for articleship right after your degree. You'll also have a college life, which I feel the new batch of CA students lack.

However, important that you have an inclination to taxation and related aspects. Else, it isn't of much use.

Being a dropper myself, I understand the circumstances, situations and self conflict one has to go through sometimes in facing this exam. It's not all flowers and rainbows as some make it seem. It is completely okay if you are a 1,2 or 3 year dropper if it something you're really passionate about and care to achieve. The gap years will teach you a lot, building a resume and interning is not something we have the resources or the best insight to look at this stage in life. So it is totally fine to be a dropper. You are doing great and you will fare well.

As someone who would be quite happy to see new well-funded subsidized public law universities to emerge in this country, I must say that I was underwhelmed during the few interactions that I've had with the faculty and students of law of NFSU Delhi. Comparatively, those from NFSU Ahmadabad were somewhat better, but way behind even the well known T2 NLUs, like GNLU, NLUO etc. Placement is a factor involving alumni, all the other points mentioned above are not of much relevance in that context. That's something even newer NLUs like MNLU Mumbai found to their chagrin. Law recruiters including top firms or companies no longer flock to any university like that unless the alum working there exert their influence. Therefore, it is possible that in future this place would end up having alum in the recruiting firms etc. But for that, the first 3-4 batches will have to land jobs via internships and PPOs, not a very easy thing to do. The university website won't reveal much about the internship possibilities since they don't have separate internship portal dedicated to the law school yet either. I would thus go by what someone above has said about avoiding it for the next few years if campus placement is what you would like. However, for lit, it may still be one of the options because of its location and if what Khyber mentioned above about lower fees is accurate.

Final year HNLU guy, visited RGNUL for seminar and have few connections over there.

as a CSE aspirants I would prioritize a conducive environment and a quiet space than my law degree.

- although HNLU allots decent single rooms for PG students, RGNUL still has better hostel facilities with AC rooms ( if they allot one) with multiple canteens.

- comparing reading halls, unlike RGNUL, HNLU has capacity and more offers compartmentalized work desks.

- coming to academic prestige, yes HNLU is fairly better, However that wont matter much once you crack CSE. plus international law would suited better for your preparations, so i would choose RGNUL.

I am from SLSP myself and work for a tier 1 in Mumbai. I think most of us bag jobs and internships simply because our alumni network is very strong and they are very warm with intake since the Symbi culture is great (same goes with the top 5 NLUs). Being fairly good with your work might not make the cut, making sure that you are seen doing the work is more important. Also take the extra 10 minutes to discuss and review the proposition with the partner to earn brownie points. Life is slightly unfair for ppl from no-name/other colleges since they don't have adequate representation from top level positions at these tier 1 and tier 2 law firms. So, my flawed advice is to obviously slog but try to be seen slogging by the top level people in your team.

A simple google search would've given you the answers, I googled jgls fee and the fee structure on their official website appears as the first search result. 6.25lakh tuition (p.a) + 3.1 lakh residential fee. Not sure if the residential fee is for the entire 5 years or p.a. If it's 3.1lpa then your total annual fee comes to around 9.35 lakhs.
