I'm reaching out here to discuss some concerns I have about recent faculty recruitments at NUJS. If you take a closer look at the profiles of these new faculty members, it's disheartening to see that, except for one or two, many seem to have questionable academic backgrounds. I reached out to a faculty, who could hardly talk to me in english for good 2 minutes and asked me to read 2 books to read to understand the topic. Can't something be done about this? It's crucial for the academic integrity of our institution. Let's open up a constructive dialogue and figure out how we can address this issue together. Your thoughts and insights are highly appreciated.

If you are a student of NUJS, then perhaps you should start doing your bit by attending the classes of the handful of good faculty who are left and making some effort to learn those subjects. As of now, that place is an intellectual wasteland and the quality of the students coming from there has declined to the level of abysmal. You can also try holding your administration accountable for letting go of good faculty, appointing people only on the basis of contacts, neglecting good candidates, doing away with checks like demo classes before recruitment etc. Instead of only demanding free attendance and easy grades. Doubtless the person whom you have referred to will become a very highly rated faculty soon, once they start giving free attendance and straight Es to everyone.

Isn't this amusing? This platform ridicules anyone going for an LLM and PhD in Law saying that they don't matter. LLM students are the butt of jokes among LLB students, and there are more than enough posts dissuading aspirants from pursuing LLM. They are looked down upon. Yet LLB students ask for good faculty and whine when they aren't available. Will the faculty come from another planet? LLB students do not even realize the consequences of their actions. Such behavior comes back to bite them as in the case above. Toppers should be encouraged to pursue higher studies, and those pursuing should be respected and rewarded - only then the universities will get good faculty.

Very well said. Even the state NLUs are "tiered" based solely on placements. Aspirants are egged to select their preference list based only on placements. Nothing else matters. This is the consequence of such short-sighted views and input from LLB students. Now we don't have good faculty, and LLB students deserve this outcome. Don't complain.

@Moderator: This post has not been written by any student, but by a disgruntled faculty member who is attempting to bring disrepute to the university because of her personal feud with the admin. The students have not even met with the new faculty since the semester is only going to start from tomorrow. Moreover, you can see how they have merely hinted at "questionable academic backgrounds" without mentioning anything concrete. That is because they know that the background of any of the faculty recruited cannot be challenged on any technical ground.

Simple. The alleged incident didn't happen. Nor is there any doubt about the academic background of any of the new recruits. Majority of them have in fact a better academic background than many of the existing faculty, and by far all of them have a better background than the person who has written this.

We're all for thorough discussions, but let's not beat a dead horse here. It seems one enthusiastic individual is taking center stage in the comments, repeatedly justifying faculty appointments, both current and past. Your thoughts are valued, but let's not turn this into a solo performance. Variety is the spice of conversation!

From NUJS SJA becoming one of the firsts to ensure Demo Classes as part of faculty recruitments to students having no clue about recruitments right now; it's sad to be see the downfall of student activism at NUJS.

Please, for the sake of yourself at least, pull out documents, ask questions on how the recruitments happened, make the VC accountable. The new SJAs are like pet parrots, "VC Sir, VC Sir".

This is also why the inquiry into the last faculty recruitment under Ishwara Bhatt was important. So we could identify the faultlines in the recruitment process. But of course, everyone thought it was a waste of time.

why cannot NUJS get almuni to come and teach? so many of them who are both good and interested in teaching? if administration is not doing enough, students should take efforts. invite them for guest lectures. ask them to waive fees. I am sure they will do this much for their alma mater

Alumni are reluctant to go anymore because the students do not show any interest in attending classes, making efforts at learning, or being subjected to real benchmarks of evaluation. There is no hesitation in inviting the alum for credit courses, value added courses. Alum who have offered such courses in the recent past have all complained against student behaviour, academic malpractices and entitlement issues. As a recent grad, I can vouch for the fact that all those grievances had merit. Some of us even requested the alum faculty to call their friends over for lectures and classes and they responded that they were worried about students still not turning up for those programmes without extra attendance and hence how bad it would look for the university.

Are you living in a fantasy land? In a scenario where egotistical LLB students ridicule and look down upon anyone pursuing LLM and Ph.D., and make fun of their pursuits openly, and tacitly supported by the faculty members, why would someone want to come back and teach? With the obsessive fixation on placements as the only factor used to categorize the state NLUs into "tiers", this situation is bound to happen. There is a strong belief among LLB students that nothing else matters. See all the discussions taking place on this platform itself. As I mentioned earlier, that skewed thinking is now coming back to bite the LLB students.

NUJS admin is for a change quite cooperative about getting alum to offer credit courses, lectures and talks etc. There is just not enough interest shown by the current students, sadly, when it comes to attending those, engaging with those people with respect and diligence and proving themselves as students worth investing time and resources in.
