BCCI is so insecure about players abandoning national matches that they have a blanket ban policy on non-retired Indians partaking in foreign franchises. Similarly, Afghanistan Cricket Board took action against players who opted for IPL and league cricket. If it wasn't for these authoritarian rules and regulations set up by these corrupt cricket bodies, national cricket, test cricket in particular, would have been mostly dead a long time ago.
Personally, I care more about my IPL team winning than whoever wins the world cup. I know many more at my Mumbai-based T1 firm who think alike. How widespread is this phenomenon? I suspect many are scared to admit because of potential backlash by nationalists.
I don’t mind gender and sexuality being taught in the classroom. I do mind the methodology this teacher used. Instead of asking the class to collectively participate in judging their peers as potential dates - she could have asked them to write a reflective essay. She could have discussed studies on dating behaviour. It seems a small insignificant point that she was trying to make which I for one don’t find controversial at all. Of course people want to date and marry those most similar to them or those who have more status/power. I don’t know what person thinks the best way to illustrate this was to literally open a dating app and get students to be mean girls.
What are we supposed to do about human dating preferences anyway ? What does all this talk mean except to guilt women into dating men they don’t desire ? Because the men won’t be forced into anything… this exercise was pure woke posturing by this person. And she rightly got caught out for it.
Law: After coming back to power, Modi may finally focus on legal reforms, including liberalisation. This is the last sector of the country that is still in licence raj mode. However, NLU nationalisation doesn’t seem likely.
Tech: Verdict is still out on AI.
Here is an idea: if you believe the stock will not do well you can try shorting it ;)

"Regarding Ms Seema Sapra - She faces a threat to her life on account of two main reasons. The first are her whistle-blower corruption and fraud complaints against General Electric Company which have not been investigated. The second are her sexual assault and harassment complaints against two prominent lawyers. These have also not been investigated.
This platform has repeatedly been used to spread disinformation against her and to target her. Any attempt to do that again will result in a court proceeding.
Also, Ms Seema Sapra has never filed a PIL. She has filed writ petitions as an aggrieved person. Not PILs.
Ms Seema Sapra does not want her cases or her situation discussed on Legally India due to an ongoing criminal conspiracy and attempts to murder her for which she has initiated proceedings in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court. Further information can be sought directly from her at seema.sapra@gmail.com"
Seema Sapra
This is indeed Seema Sapra

Banda- In Uttar Pradesh, a woman civil judge in Banda has written a poignant letter to Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, seeking euthanasia. The three-page letter expresses her disillusionment with the Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, stating that it is a significant falsehood where her concerns go unheard.
She also mentioned an incident from her Barabanki posting, where she faced misconduct from the Bar Association office bearers, the letter reveals her physical and mental distress, compelling her to seek permission to end her life. She accuses the District Judge of unreasonable demands, highlighting concerns about women's workplace safety. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has expedited an investigation, acknowledging the seriousness of the matter.
The junior division judge experienced humiliation in a crowded court a year ago on October 7, 2022. She documented this incident, in the official records, suggesting mental exploitation.
According to the record, at 11:10, the judge began her judicial duties when Bar General Secretary Ritesh Kumar Mishra, Senior Vice President Mohan Singh, and other officials, along with advocates, entered the courtroom, disrupting the judicial proceedings. The advocates reportedly threatened the judge, questioning her support and accusing her of having a troubled mins

Law firms and lawyers employ such witness and victim intimidation practices outside Court and pressure them to withdraw these cases or give hostile or false testimony. This is real but since it happens outside the Courts the interference in administration of justice does not come on record.
Law firms doing this for big clients, which definitely make it commercially viable, is already well known in legal circles. And where companies get involved, the law firm violating laws is pretty much a norm since the law firm will not want to lose the company as client.
Don't surrender yourself around people who treat you badly. Know your worth. You are smart, believe it. You are strong, believe it. You are worth it, believe it. Just keep doing what makes you passionate. What makes you happy, do it. People are pathetic, they once dreamt of things and failed to achieve it and therefore discourage you. Yet you have to realise you are not them, you will succeed. You will overcome all the challenges in front of you. It's cause you believe in you.
Things maybe tough today. With studies, jobs, work, family, relationships. But believe in yourself. You will get through them. Just remember to have your set of morals and follow them to the T. Stay true to your standards that you've set for yourself.
Hope this year you give your best, don't worry about the rest. As long as you know you're giving your best, you should not fret, keep moving on and push yourself better than the limit.
Love only three things this year. I, me and myself !
Let's help each other to be a better version of ourselves. Peace out ✌🏽
Clearly you have no idea how tax litigation works. Well let me tell you that only that litigation which is related to the question of law or interpretation of law goes to supreme court or high court.
Facts based litigation is settled at the ITAT level and 95% of the tax litgation is fact based.
How stupid are you man?
But a lot of law firms have their HQs there.
So you get what I mean by old school.
You'll have to take your own call given that all law firms are toxic in their own way. You are the best person to know what you can adapt to or not. Good luck.
Looks like you have worked neither with big 4 nor the big law firms. Go checkout the qualifications of people working in the tax teams of any big law firm in India - most would be CAs who would have joined laterally from EY, KMPG, or PWC. The primary reason for most was higher pay at law firms.
And my dude, take a look at this thread and see who started the pissing competition. I have been around on LI for a longgg time and trust me, on every thread concerning a CA+LLB topic, it is always a CA who would suddenly start shitting on lawyers. Take a look in this thread itself. I mean look at the at kind of comments people from your profession come up with.
"CAs should not pursue LLB. Why would a US green card holder apply for Bangladesh work permit?"
"LLB degrees will be worth less than toilet paper"
Absolute crass.

Notwithstanding this, right now the boom of the market has stalled. But so has everywhere.
Mnlu has nothing to show in terms of placements.
Also the firm follows a policy wherein you get half the aforesaid amount as your salary until you get provisionally enrolled with the state Bar.

If one goes for General LLM with subjects like Contracts, Banking, IPR, etc. as selected subjects, how does it boost the candidate's profile both from the perspective of academia as well as placements right after LLM.
And yeah, just so you know, saying this from bottom of heart, CAs don't care about being lawyer, the CA degree opens enough opportunities. The only CAs, who like to do tax litigation, are the one's who will study law and not really to join law firms.
Let's not do a contest to just piss on a profession, as many have already written.
But all the other stuff that you have rambled on about CAs expanding into new fields like tech, business side of things etc etc, is the prime example of what you guys have learned from mugging up stuff and writing exams for 4 years - which is to vomit up random points which would have no relevance at all to the discussion. Even lawyers have roles in upcoming fields be it tech, finance, or business side of things. However what has this got anything to do with this thread or my reply (which was to point out the irony)?
So anyways lets come back to the main topic - should lawyers be worried that CAs are also obtaining law degrees? Well, it depends on which practice area you are focusing on. If you plan to work in the field IP, criminal, arbitration, or maritime laws, then being a CA would be irrelevant. However, if you were to focus in the area of tax, insolvency, or corporate matters (since these laws specifically allow CAs to appear for their clients before tribunals - ITAT, CESTAT, NCLT) then being a CA can be advantageous.
RML was a decent college up until sometime 2016-17. College was growing at a steady pace but lately things have been bad. If you want to do corp, then RML is a big no no. No firm or inhouse is interested in hiring from RML. I don't wish to go into reasons why this is so, but it is what it is. Honestly, today in 2024, RML has nothing to show for itself.
It would be wrong to suggest that NLUO or RGNUL are astronomically better than RML, but the difference is evident. Both of these colleges are growing and have a decent scene for corp.
Also for anyone reading this, ffs get out of the mindset of joining a college closer to home. Such an approach only makes sense if your preferred college is in Delhi or Mumbai and the other options are reasonably bad.
Then UGC NET
And last PhD.
This year has been a remarkable journey of both challenges and triumphs. With your steadfast support, xxx has soared to new heights. Our team now boasts of strength of over 250 across state-of-the-art offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
Conveniently, it doesn’t mention whether this should be read to mean 250 lawyers or 250 members including support, HR and finance and the like. Of course it is the latter.
Come on yaar.
Given that he hasn’t posted the number of lawyers (which is the true metric of expansion), makes you wonder if the intent is to hide data. The world knows that this law firm has been losing talent.
