TBH I am totally against such marriages. These are couples dating for the first time and getting to know each other. You can’t just marry them off so quickly. Typically, the girl’s parents fear that the girl will get a “bad name” if they break up and she will be a pariah if she was also sexually actively in the relationship. So they literally marry her off to the first guy she holds hands with. This is not only regressive thinking, but also self-defeating. If you are so concerned about what society thinks, what if the guy turns out to be toxic and she is forced to divorce? The social stigma against divorcees is worse!
IMO the minimum age of marriage should be statutorily raised to 25.
The entitlement to be in a job is astonishing.
Instances where people hired more and then let go, is irresponsible but where there may be real issues of performance- what do you expect an institution to do? Hire/retain for CSR?
- Quality of education
- Diversity and college life- How are the Hostel Rooms? As we will spend 5 years there?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
Secondly, does he have the credentials for the job? What international law experience or scholarship did he have prior to the appointment?
He was originally a Manmohan govt appointee. Could t they have sent a Senior Advocate with international law experience?
Why is it so?
All others in Tier 5.
are these days finally coming to an end? are the big guys loosing out to the smaller guys who are growing and getting bigger? is this not something that the lawyer community can be really proud of? i mean compared to litigation which is still largely run by the family guys, are we not seeing some genuine opportunity for someone who is not from a lawyer family to grow? can we call this a genuine success of capitalism in India?
Thanks!
People beg for assessment internships, where even if firms are not inclined to hire them, and pester their way into this position; and then, if they're not truly brilliant (which is the the only way you would get in) and are not made an offer, sully the good names of the firms that are nice enough to grant atleast a modicum of insight on the skills and lawyering required to work at the firms.
if you are talking about a career guidance test I have already given quite a few, and scored follows in the onet test (it was the only one which was quote one quote official so)
https://imgur.com/a/08vzVkl
If you were talking about an actual aptitude test to measure my IQ.. I had already taken one in 2021 and scored128ish.
There is this place in Marine Lines called SL Villas, Google and call the guy. It's very cozy and good. Also there's a spa on the first floor.....if that interests you
Summarising judgments so that it's easier for the associates to read (not for the firm) and even for the firm. Nothing good comes out of summarising a 70-80 page judgment everyday lol.
Summarising Agreements which are available on the internet doesn't make sense.
Yes, summarising Acts too.
Pov of students- if any such assurance is given, the student may not line up any internships, may decline offers/ assesment, may have to cancel up on internships, etc. This negatively impacts the career of a student and many students do feel depressed after spending 5yrs or 3yrs (3+3=6 years) into a profession where they don't land a job.
Everyone should do more than bare minimum. What is bare minimum anyway. If you are paid for it, do what is expected. Don’t kill yourself. But nothing wrong in trying to do the best.
On the 10 pm rule and weekend rule, it’s a good rule. But if you see an email from a client on Saturday morning saying they need an asap turn around over the weekend and you push back, you are not doing what’s expected.
But otherwise if it’s not urgent or there is no client pressure, no need to force yourself to work over the weekend.
Take 2 tests to be sure and make sure you answer them truthfully immersing yourself fully in each question.
im just gonna say, first and foremost, im a cultural conservative. i believe that a lot of new gen philosophies and ideologies are self destructive and often downright egotistic and narcissistic. i also believe that capitalism is the best system we currently have at our disposal. that being said, i don't think it is flawless. no economic system ever is, and if you worship an economic system and consider it to be as sacred and unchangeable a religion, then you've clearly lost it.
coming to your first point, you missed the essence of what i was saying. i was providing an argument analogous to what was being stated above. the argument above goes like "well, don't forget that this system has brought about the material prosperity you're utilizing today! that's reason enough to keep it around forever!". the point is that many systems have brought about a certain level of progress, but it is not worth keeping them around simply because they can bring progress/have brought about progress at one point of time. it must be examined what cost we're paying for that progress to determine the efficiency of an economic system. i never stated that colonialism, bonded labor and slave trade are a part of capitalism. i drew a parallel argument to show how flawed the comment above was.
and y'know, the funny thing is, if you look at the prime days of capitalism, the days when it was bringing never before seen levels of prosperity to the west, you'll see that those times were fraught with conflict that the west exploited. they would exploit the cheap labor of underdeveloped countries in order to cut labor costs, they would extract natural resources at a low cost from third world nations and prop up regimes that would facilitate their arms trading and war mongering, all the while portraying the picture of being a beacon of liberty and a symbol of the success of the "free market". a market can never be truly free if there exists such a massive wealth and power imbalance (as is visible in most capitalist countries, please do check the Gini index). you can tell a poor man about his freedom of occupation and such forever, but in the end the directions he can go in are very restricted in practicality. that is why a free market can never exist as long as there isn't a certain level of social equality that is present between the citizens of any state.
as for your second point, i.. don't get what made you believe that anywhere in my message i talked a single time about "office going AC havers" being sad about.. not being influencers? what?
"but the population has grown manyfold. several economies have been hit by successive recessions. the mental health of most people has dropped tremendously while they work in jobs paying peanuts given by the benevolent corporate capitalist gods. unemployment and underemployment are on the rise. "gig work" is becoming more common too, which is basically the same thing as hookups in the job market. companies cut off employees and employees cut off companies much faster and with much less hesitation than they did in, say, the 50s or 60s, leading to an era of great uncertainty."
please do read this part again. it's a clear reference to the low wage workers who have to travel all the way to big cities in order to get a minimum wage job so they can send money home to their family, all the while living in miserable conditions themselves. all because mr free market capitalists decided to exercise their freedom and not pay these folk enough. it's his free choice to work there, right? and the boss can decide how much he wants to pay, right...? if he doesn't like the pay, he can just leave, right....? except it's not so simple, considering this man will be impoverished and starving if he doesn't accept the terrible working conditions, while the boss could care two hoots about whether he joins or not. you see why freedom can't truly exist when there's such a huge disparity in resources?
For entering academia LLM from a prestigious uni is preferable. Either from Tier-1 NLUs or from a reputed foreign institute.
Good Luck!
2nd things take time. Take it at your own pace.
3rd Early marriage doesn't guarantee anything. Had a cousin married at 27. He's 35 now still no kid. On the verge of divorce.
Also summarizing judgements & agreements are understandable but how to summarize Acts?
1. Don't take a complete drop. Ever. The success stories are an apt example of survivor bias. I am a survivor too but would never want a junior to go through the grilling process of a complete drop. Always prefer a partial drop over it.
2. A t2 NLU badge is worth it.
3. Don't be a pessimistic.
4. NLUs do open a lot of barriers for you so yes, NLUs are worth it. Same goes for other t1 law schools.
5. NLUs do encourage you to pursue legal academia if you are genuinely intrigued by it. Watch a few YT videos of NLU grads speaking about legal academia. It will be of great help to you.
Ps- B.com in itself doesn't hold much value unless done from a t1 college so be prepared to give a ton of mba entrance exams right after your undergrad.
Secondly, I would definitely suggest law as a career path. Even if you don't have those connections, you can still very well flourish if you have a genuine interest in it. Don't join if you are not intrigued by it. A fair warning. Law demands your focus and interest.
Ps- It goes without saying but joining a good (not necessarily great) law school is vital.
Lastly, I would suggest you to stick with what you have been doing for the last two years but ofc you know yourself and your capabilities better than anyone else. Just don't go down the engineering path. Experience se bata raha hu it's not something jo wo log kar paaye jinpe engineering ka bhooth na sawaar ho.
Being an AOR doesn't equate to inflow of work. You get the privilege file in the SC, that's all!
Is it true that marking in a few streams is easier than in others? (I've heard that marking in BA is atrocious while BSW has the most lenient checking, BBA and Bcom somewhere in the middle)
Which stream would you recommend if one wants to maintain a good GPA?
Would being from humanities background prove to be a disadvantage while studying BBA/Bcom (for e.g. problems in understanding concepts, coping up with the syllabus)
And how difficult is it to cope with the change from school to college in terms of academics? Will it be manageable (in BBA/BA) if one studies regularly?
Got a client (independently) a few days ago.
He's done insider trading of a stock of a company and some other person with whom he did that got caught by Sebi.(They traced the transferred funds). And he's afraid that it's just a matter of time before he is caught and he's sure of that.
He's demanding that I help him FIX the matter and he's ready to pay me a good fee plus the required amount to the concerned person.
I have no issues in doing it. Plus, i also need the money. But, as a first gen lawyer i lack the contacts. And he won't listen.
So guys, What to do ? And how ?😅
Please help
1. Tell him/her you don't wanna do it. After a cpl of times they dont ask. Its their life let them do what they want. Stick to your business.
2. I had issues with the smoke. So just told him so. That he's free to do it outside or in the balcony. Not in the room.
After some time he found other guys who used to smoke up and they mostly did it in the other guys room.
3. The main issue is if he gets caught and they find substance in your room. Then you are going to be in trouble.
Wasnt an issue for me as I never did drugs and had a plan that if they found it in my room was gonna tell that "maybe the roomie does iy have no idea". And insist on a drug test if they try to procto me.
4. And I used to have fun with him tbh. When ever he was high he used to tell me tales and gossip stuff. Plus normal funny Banter.
5.IMP. Don't file a complain . People are gonna find out. And as majority does these things in law school your gonna face issues in the hostel and get a bad name.
Take the grand old party out, and the chances of AAP in Punjab, Nitish + Lalu in Bihar, and Mamata in Bengal aren’t affected by too much. Are they?
However, it would be wrong to say that they completely aren’t. Therefore, once Congress is out, the leaders of each of AAP, JDU/RJD, and Trinamool should reach out to local Congress leaders who can carry a seat. I can speak for my state, but someone like Bajwa from Gurdaspur, or Ravneet from Jalandar are Congressis from Punjab who can possibly win (especially if banked or at least not opposed by AAP).
But, yeh hoga nahi. The politicians are not mature enough to face cold hard facts. Therefore, Modi will easily return to power.
Only interesting thing in Indian politics at the central level is ki 2029 mein Modi, ya phir Yogi. Or, koi aur?
Tier wise ranking of NLUs:
Tier 1: NLSIU
Tier 2: Nalsar, Nujs, NLUD
Tier 3: NLUJ, GNLU, NLIU
Tier 4: HNLU, NUALS, RML, RGNUL, CNLU
Tier 5: All other nlus
Thats why people always suggest to surround one woth smart people..
Make a comprehensive and logical choice
I'd suggest going through the college websites, instagram handles of centres and committees and the overall image of the college
Btw NLUJ offers single rooms for all the five years, multiple mess options where you decide your meals and great ADR and moot ecosystem
So for the time being, I'm just going to assume that if I do choose to take admission, I'll be getting into HNLU. That being said, I feel extremely cynical. The prospect of attending a law college in Chattisgarh is not very thrilling, to say the least. The badge of attending a Tier 2 NLU is gonna stick with me forever if I end up graduating from here. People always recommend taking a partial drop if one is dissatisfied with the college they have been allotted, but it never plays out in such a linear fashion in reality. There's too many stories of people being pumped up for a partial drop in some NLU, but eventually they let go of that idea due to them falling into a comfort zone as well as having the immense burden of studying thrust upon them.
Another issue that occupies my thoughts all the time is the issue of career paths. I never wanted to get into corporate law. My dream (as stupid as it sounds now) is to become a professor in some well renowned university. I really love teaching and doing research and writing about topics in excruciating depth. I really like details and I love reading books and articles and writing essays on topics I care about, which is why I even chose law in the first place. It appears like I'm tooting my own horn, but regardless, I felt it necessary to include. However, everyone I talk to online and in real life seem to mostly be interested in packages and placements, along with a few who seem interested in judiciary. Which makes me wonder, do these NLUs even open pathways for academia? Or are they solely corporate and judiciary oriented? Personally, I do not wish to pursue careers in these fields. If most NLUs are oriented towards judiciary and corporate, is it worth it for someone who does not wish to take either of these paths?
I feel like this post became super long and rambling. I didn't have a particular direction that I wanted to take it in, nor did I have a general framework ready. I just wanted to ask some questions that have been hanging heavy on my mind lately. Are these NLUs, which charge such hefty sums of money as fees, worth it for the opportunities they open up? Should I change courses and aim for a different degree? I do have the luxury of taking one drop year, if I really need to. I wish to be studying something which is aligned with my interests, and while it seemed to me that Law was that subject, I have become increasingly skeptical of it as a career, over the span of a few months. I'd appreciate it if anyone's willing to help me out! I'm sorry if anything I wrote here hurt anyone too.
Mental health and all- please. You dont even know what youre talking about. People who stay in AC offices and make stacks doing professional work feel sad theyre not influencers? Thats something a leftist is supposed to worry about? Not the farmers committing suicide because of debt or the factory workers not getting paid or the children working?
Law school leftism sucks.
