Not exactly. Sid. C was front and centre of the campaign to get Sudhir K appointed as NLSIU VC in 2019. As a relatively popular alumnus who was clearly wronged by the previous NLSIU VC (RVR), it was easy for him to convince NLSIU students to think about a constructive academic future under a former Rhodes Scholar. Whatever has happened since then is for current NLSIU students to judge.

Sid.C tried to use similar tactics to make the case for Faizan Mustafa's continuation at NALSAR in 2022. However, in this case, the judges went with SKDR since FM had already completed two terms and several senior faculty at NALSAR were deeply upset with FM for having delayed their CAS promotions and the like. Nevertheless, Sid.C stuck on at NALSAR, possibly because SKDR was seen as a compromise candidate, as opposed to much worse alternatives such as VBK.

During all this time, he obviously had the option to move to NLSIU since Sudhir K became VC there. I guess he might be facing some difficulties because of his previous instances of activism, so is now choosing to go to a place where several NLSIU alums are congregating. To be fair to him, he publicly argued for FM's continuation, primarily to protect his younger colleagues who were in contractual positions. Over the last two years, most of them have dispersed to other law schools or gone for PhDs. Current and future NALSAR students are going to lose another good teacher who was a net contributor to the institution.

Hardly poached. He is the one who got Sudhir into NLS. He couldn't stay at NALSAR because of the very prominent role that he had played leading students to ensure that Faizan could continue as the VC there. If you throw your hat into the ring like that, then you would have to learn to accept the consequences should your side loses. He had been waiting all along to finish his PhD without which he couldn't join as as Associate Professor at NLS, which would be the least for someone with his seniority. He could wait no longer. Anyhow, NALSAR's loss. Regardless of his propensity to get involved in playing Kingmaker, SidChau is a very good teacher. NALSAR is left with almost no one of note now.

Even though I am against Sudhir because of his dictatorship and his efforts to curb student autonomy on campus, I will have to accept that he has really transformed NLS. He has drastically improved the faculty here. If he had increased the seats at a slower rate then he would have been the best thing that NLS ever had.

If he just cares to listen to the other stakeholders that the university has with an open mind and gets rid of the attitude that he alone knows what's best for the institution on every conceivable issue, then he would not only do great things for NLS, but also for his own self as an admin.

If you are a faculty member from the VBR support group ('vocal for local'), please note that your patron has also left the institution. If you would like to do further damage to the institution, do not expect the students to meekly surrender. There is a storm brewing and neither the KDR-KVR faction or the VBK support group has any clue about how to govern a law school in the 2020s.

The IPM 2nd year course that you are referring to was assigned to Aymen Mohammed during the October-December 2023 term. Sid.C was only filling in for a few classes on local government. I am in IPM 3rd year and he taught three courses for us last year, all of which were meaningfully delivered. I asked him about what is going on this year. The Law students also confirmed that during the July-December 2023 period, he taught Constitutional Law I for 3rd year BA,LLB-Section B (69 class hours), Law and Justice in a Globalising World for LLM students (49 class hours), Economic Freedoms and Law for IPM 1st year (28 class hours) and co-taught Comparative Public Law for the new LLM-IBL course (24 class hours). That is more classroom teaching in a semester than many of our senior Professors put together.

AFAIK Comparative Public Law is being taught to the LLM students during the January-April 2024 semester. The comment was not directed against Prof. Vasanthi. She is one of the few teachers at NALSAR who are teaching above the requirements. There are several others (better not to name them) who are not even doing half of these numbers.

I am from BBA as well and I was in absolute awe of him as a teacher. His lectures were spell binding and his command on the subject was commendable. I could even ask questions (even silly ones) and he would answer happily and take time to actually address whatever doubts I had. And he answered everyone's questions. Yes, he did sometimes go off on a tangent but "by and large" as he says often, his lectures were were informative.

And it's not just me, all sincere and intelligent students agree that he teaches well.
