You can be a strong, nationalist party without having to morph into a Republican.
Sure, I too am disappointed that Modi is taxing the middle-class to fund freebies, but the Congress is seen worse, because they kept India backward for 50 years and inserted "socialist" in the Preamble of the Constitution.
DU guys who spend meagre 17k as total fees land up the same job in 2 years then what's the point of spending lakhs!!!
It is heard that the Justice League might be put on hold as the prime attraction: BOLLYWOOD NIGHT is suddenly being asked to be cancelled by the Admin as the erstwhile "SAC Core" members raised the issue that only SAC can organise such a Bollywood night and others cannot. Given the same, the VC has asked JL Organisers to cancel the Bollywood Night. Given JL organisers were able to pull crowds, participants and sponsorships with the promise of Bollywood night as a prime factor, now they don't seem to be willing to do JL without the Bollywood night. To be noted that the Admin/VC initially allowed the Bollywood night and later pulled out after SAC intervention. Two days back, JL/Sports Comm staged a protest in the Admin block against the Admin for changing their stance. But nothing fruitful came out of it as both Director and Registrar were out of campus.
What's more funny is the SAC Core which anyway resigned (for all the reasons known to them), is again interfering with the affairs of Sports Committee.
It was also heard that the Administration found out about the massive financial irregularities during Pentagram last year as well as most events this year. Close to 30 lakh rupees were siphoned off by the SAC Core that the Administration has found now. This could also be another factor why the Admin generally doesn't want to push for Bollywood nights or similar programmes anymore. The Admin found that students had misappropriated funds, exchanged substances and used the money for personal trips.
The people who are bearing the brunt of all of this is the current 5th years. No Penta, perhaps no JL, distrust in the admin for the whole batch, distrust among juniors... This woes of this sem don't seem to end.
There is more liberty when it comes to litigation. You have to learn 'everything' your own way and perform every task on your own.
There have been two senior-level partner terminations in the second half of last year which we will refrain from details of for the sake of propriety and privacy. Since then we have amended to ensure less abuse of our culture.
We are not a hire and fire place and take pride in our culture, quality of clients and team and of timely financial discipline. In any case queries and conversations are welcome at contact@veristlaw.com or directly to the team on LinkedIn.
Thank you for the opportunity of clarification and we hope defamatory lines will continue be managed well by Legally India given the relevance of this forum.
Since I am not interested in doing accounting work or filing of tax returns for others I don’t intend to become a CA. Also, I see this as boring and intellectually dead work.
So far as the word ‘dustbin’ is concerned, I had borrowed it from your previous comment.
1/3 goes on rent, living and other expenditure = 16 lakhs
1/3 is saved = 16 lakhs
MKS or at least his acolytes will try but they will fail. Also MKS is smart enough to know that DNLU despite lacking the "branding" presently gives him several different kinds of "opportunities." So do not belittle DNLU as some sort of pit stop.

But when I look back. Some dumb kids from my school days who went to NIT, took CS there are making far far more in Microsoft in hyderabad at my age with far less working hours, almost no weekend calls. While I slog every Saturday and even some Sundays.
Anger and jealousy never has an end my friend.
I am currently looking to move in house with a pay cut upto 30%.
I regret not enjoying law school enough. I was a workaholic. While all my friends had boyfriends. I generally stayed away from everything. Now I regret these things. Salary is important. But not everything. Improve yourself rather than comparing.
Former senior associate -most of the pro firm comments are not entirely true. Was at the firm for 2 years and there wasn't much work, very low deal value transactions, that too few of them. There were more regular contract review retainer work . This is genuine info.
Should your compatriots tread similar paths, like the courtroom or corporate corridors, sharpen your skills before entertaining a detour. Showcase your strengths in the job arena. If their journeys diverge, resist the urge to measure pockets. Focus not on the financial gap but on constant enhancement. Gradual, sustainable progress is the linchpin to enduring triumph. Keep your eyes on the prize, and may fortune favor you.
When I was getting a lower tier NLU i was jealous of my coaching mates getting NLS and NALSAR. When I didn't get a T1 internship I was jealous of my college mates. When I managed to land a T1 job and started working, I got jealous of my friends in IB / top software engineering comps working similar hours but making more money.
My life kept changing and getting "better" but so did the comparisons. I know it is hard to put an end to it, as i admittedly still do it from time to time, but you have to recognise it and put your foot down, and work towards resolving.
1. but do read arbitration laws of the place you are going to be based out of for eg. Singapore/ London (seat of the jurisdiction matters, they wont really ask but just to have a better understanding)
2. know arbitration principles - separability/ competence competence, etc.
3. study the arbitration act fully - you can watch youtube videos on the same.
4. read on landmark judgment - group co, stamping of arbitral award
5. make a word doc and summarize your understanding of these concepts there for easy remembrance.
6. for better intellectual acumen/ understanding you can also watch SIAC videos and similarly other videos of law firm partners relating to arbitration.
7. subscribe to arbitration newsletters
8. can follow/ read kluwer arbitration blog and other blogs of similar stature, etc.
Thanks
Note: Trolls please skip this post😭
2. 5 years no private practice.
3. 10 years no chamber.
4. No work-life balance.
5. First generation.
Left after a decade and joined a tier 2 law firm. Consistent pay, work-life balance and reward in the form of promotions and bonuses for hard work.
I'm a current first gen third year here and didn't really have anyone I knew to ask about this so was hoping to get some perspective on this. We've recently started applying to corporate firms for internships and they ask us to indicate preference but looking at them on the firm's websites - Banking & Finance; Private Equity; and Capital Markets all seem to blur into one and occupy similar fields. I was wondering how if I was missing something and how you'd distinguish between them work-wise.
Thanks!
- Confused 3rd Year.
Don't exit counseling. Take the NLU you are getting. Then once the counseling process is over then wait for vacancy in your desired NLU. The reason being vacancy depends on a lot of factors. Also just cause there's a vacancy doesn't mean you will definitely get in. One of my friend made an exit in counseling only to end up not getting anything even in vacancy. Ended up in a private college.
This chain only highlights one-side of a larger issue. From what I know, two ex-▮▮▮ partners joined and were let go of within weeks for not doing much work, or misrepresenting the work they were doing for the firm. Not surprised that they are spreading these lies. Funniest is, one of these ex-partners still represent to be working with the firm when they left a few months ago.
class timings vary, no strict time table that is followed everyday. somedays 8-6, some days 12-3, with or without gaps in between.
uniform not compulsory. they say that white and black formals are compulsory mon, tue, thurs, fri; however hardly anyone follows it. you find kids wearing chappals with formals, crop tops, casual white tshirts, multi-coloured random clothes, etc. and most faculties dont give a shit. no uniformity. no "law school" vibe.
A couple of events that led to my bidding an adieu to litigation:
I wanted to go attend a friend's birthday bash on a particular day and wanted to leave the office by 8pm. The senior detested the thought ! He said he never the left the office before his senior did.
There is another incident that happened on a Saturday. My father asked me if I could deliver some documents at a government office at around 11am that day. I rushed to the office by 10 and unintentionally hurried to my chair in the office. A client and my senior were discussing a case and could notice me rushing to my chair and trying to go out of the office. This irked him very much.
There are many more incidents like these and I do not know how significant or otherwise they are. I felt I was denuded of complete freedom for little or no reward, monetary or otherwise, in the near future. I decided to leave the office thereafter and did leave.
A 'dustbin university' makes a 'dustbin lawyer'. Therefore, very few clients place their faith in CAs (and 'dustbin lawyers') to argue their matter before the high courts or the Supreme Court.
How are they affording it? They pay 25k to their associates and white collar litigation isn't high revenue area.
The firm takes into consideration your preferences, strengths and weakness, while allocating work. You can also request if you want to take up new nature of assignments.
Coming to work culture - The people at Verist are very understanding and at the same time professional. There is good work life balance also considering the fact that mostly Saturday and Sundays are non-working.
With respect to compensation - During my time at Verist, neither I faced any payment issues as highlighted by some comments in the thread nor I heard that some other employee was facing such issues. Further, the compensation structure at Verist is at par with Tier 1 Law firms and there is no limit of growth at Verist. I personally got very decent increment within a very short period of time.
So, personally, I would say that if you focus on working hard and with decent intelligence, Verist Law does not hold back in compensating you amply.
The firm has a small team with matters in various practice areas. Mainly, you get to work on gen corp advisory and M&A, and the partners are flexible and assign projects based on your interests and abilities. I had a good time working there as I got to work on different practice areas and projects. You get client exposure way earlier than your peers at other firms, and the learning curve is better. If you look at the exits from Verist, people end up mostly at Tier I law firms. There are no office politics, work hours are amazing (mostly gets over by 6-7 pm), and free unless the clients demand something urgent weekends are mostly free (which partners push back on if it isn't urgent or unreasonable). You have WFH flexibility, which was truly there before the pandemic.
I recommend the firm. I hope you haven't communicated your decision.
So why are NLU grads not keeping up, despite being supposedly smart?
Lots of flexibility in time/work and not too many layers for the atrocious ‘law firm politics’
If you like all above, do join!
For the rest they are a stable and good firm and you can check with various alumni.
I did consider Jindal, but honestly, I think its a bit too out of budget. Symbiosis already seems expensive, and Jindal is almost 3 times the fee
I want them to forget my face immediately so I don't have to deal with the fall out of pissing them off.
The major reason is, I realized that I have ADHD that makes me inattentive, I cannot concentrate, Lost my attentiveness, not able to remember sections. Basically ADHD gave me hard time studying and cramming.
I find it easier to date now and have much better prospects than I had when I was 26
As a woman if you have money, wits, self-esteem, you should have no problem
Except if you have been filled with toxic shame, guilt, insecurity by society you are screwed anyway no matter what age you are
these days you can look after yourself reasonably well if you put your mind to it and have some money, dating is extremely easy
