I have a writ petition where I am one of the respondents. How do I find a suitable law firm to represent me? This writ is in the HC of a state (Telangana) where I dont reside, so I am not aware of the legal practice there. The matter is a niche field of finance, regulated profession laws etc.

I have been watching the video conference stream of this particular court hall where the matter is posted to, so I can get an idea of who argues well before this Judge. Shortlisted couple of them, but apart from their Linkedins, I cant seem to find their contact details online. Appears they are part of various law firms. Is it a good idea to cold call the law firm and ask them for these lawyers?

Also what should be the expected fees for a writ petition? A range I should expect would be good to know before approaching the firms.

Do HC litigation firms charge by the hour like corporate firms do, or is it a fixed per case or per hearing fee like its common with SC advocates?

Litigation guy here from Tier 1 firm based in Delhi. Since finances are not an immediate issue, start with 1 year of clerkship with an HC (if not, then SC) judge. The extensive kinds of matter that you’ll get to deal with will really broaden your perspective and you’ll understand the psyche of a judge. After that, work with a senior for 1-2 years. You’ll get minimal drafting work but it will be rewarding to learn how to approach a problem. After that, go for a disputes practice in T1 firm if you discover you aptitude is more towards drafting and briefing or join a chamber if you are more inclined towards arguing.

I do some M&A / PE/ VC stuff at a tier 1 in NCR. The kind of work is broadly regular. DDs, negotiations on Transaction Documents, pre and post closing stuff. However, each deal is unique - from the challenges to particular sectors, different kinds of promoters, executives to deal with etc etc. There’s also ancillary advisory work which keeps it interesting. Also, working with specialised teams from different disciplines like IP, TMT, employment, regulatory, tax etc means there’s something new to learn every day. Takes a few months to get a hang of it and a couple of years to properly run a transaction from start to finish but its not monotonous. Incredibly stressful and sapping but not monotonous. Not to mention one of the best paymasters.

However, you do miss out on some stuff, like the adrenaline high of a new litigation, the ability to be snarky in drafts, all the networking in courts etc. Here, you end up holed up in office with the same set of people (a large majority of who may be pretentious jerks) as well as condescending foreign counsels. Since most stuff is virtual now, there’s limited non-work interaction with people outside your firm.

Due to my oversight, my partners faced backlash from a foreign client. I accidentally mixed up two templates for a due diligence report, leading to a final report that the client criticized for its unexpectedly poor quality. Fortunately, my partners, who are much more understanding than those at some tier 1 firms (which obviously I don't take for granted), didn't reprimand me much since I'm an A0. However, I still feel guilty and responsible for the mistake, especially since the senior associate likely had to take the brunt of the criticism on my behalf. I'm wondering what I should do or could have done in this situation. Is it common for others to make such significant errors?

Hi, I am from a top 5 nlu and also was in the top 5 rankers of my batch. Had multiple offers on day zero but the firm I accepted recently communicated that I would be paid roughly 12 LPA (this is a tier1 law firm). Can i negotiate my A0 salary? I mean it’s crazy that people on here are saying “ don’t worry about your weight “. Like if you’re overweight or obese ,as I was once, and it’s not some hormonal issue which you have no control over, then you should eat right and exercise and try and be in the normal range. Being obese has horrible effects on your health and could kill you. It’s a health problem - treat it like that. I assume you already know this because it’s your body.

As for clothing - honestly as long as it’s tasteful and in the right size - most things will look okay. The tricky thing is to buy in the right size and not for some aspiration also size. When you’re at goal weight - you can then buy goal weight clothes.

you might not even have met all your batchmates as of now - a lot of them probably are not aware that there is a NLUJ 29 group that already exists. it just may be, the people you might vibe with are not in the group as of yet. one thing we learnt after coming to college is that 1) you do not neet to "try" to fit in. 2) working on your own self will lead you to find people automatically. 3) open up, you would not get to know people, or would not fit in until and unless you open up.

lastly, yes groups will be made - south indians have their own groups, so do north indian's which sadly, is true in most of the colleges in India.
But you will also see all the people belonging from different states, cultures and backgrounds intermingle with peace. we have made amazing friends - who speak hindi and english both.

So what is the argument ? Isn’t it better for the university to hire regularised staff than to hire contract professors ? If she’s equally qualified - surely she can compete for the permanent position and get hired again?

It’s a yearly renewable contract and that practice actually harms universities. Even if she is “well loved”, it’s still a government university and we should consider what’s good for the institution.
