Went to a law school in England, both for undergrad and postgrad. Didn't encounter such things. Visibly disabled, brown coloured male. This doesn't mean, though, that such things aren't there, drink spiking was a significant issue of concern during my undergrad times. I think what helped to really ensure lack of ragging to a good extent in the campus housing facilities was that other than the disabled, practically nobody beyond first year undergraduates were allowed to stay in campus halls.

No they don't. What is this nonsense? Based on class, social skills and political opinions, yes of course they exist.

Don't expect to have many friends if you are at an American law school and say you support Trump. Or if you can only talk about cricket, hang around only with other Indians and can't speak anything but broken English. But if you have social skills and good English and know how to fit in, (think posh South Delhi or South Bombay kid), then there is no racial hierarchy at all. Most people at a US/UK law school of all places would die of embarrassment if anyone thought they were racist. You just need to know how to fit in socially and culturally but that has nothing to do with the colour of your skin.

To answer the OP - some student clubs/fraternities and places like that will have rituals similar to ragging. But in the general student body as a whole - no. You don't really have it in Western countries.

As someone who made the exact same move at the exact same PQE just a few months back, hard relate on everything you've said. Only worry is external crises hitting the country but i doubt a law firm job would've kept us insulated from it much more than working in house. If you're in bombay, hmu, would love to meet.

go for it if you dont have any better option. do not sit idle.

my friend was told by one of the partners that they do not have a vacancy in the team, he was still called for a ppo interview and got the offer, on the other hand my partner told me explicitly that they do have a vacanacy but still has not taken anyone.

Keep seeing Legal Opinions and advise given by T1s being thrown away during discussion with senior advocates in chambers.

Maybe desperate to hit targets and the need to convert advisory into full mandates but if you are advise is harmful for the client in the long run, before courts and commerically, you're a shitty lawyer. Its a gloomy time for big firms. But everyone is seething at how such opinions are being issued. India needs a regulator for advocates practicing effectively as soliciters.

Sometime the advise given is completely wrong in law. Sometimes the opinion is practically impossible to pursue. Some are openly self serving. Sometimes all three rolled into one. The clients are increasingly shocked to find they are victims of grifting. Many partners are issuing rather self serving opinions and advisory work. But its also getting noticed.

This was a situation where O&M is being pushed by a shady investor. Exit is offered. Valuation stalls. New foreign investors to replace him are spooked on account of existing litigation. The advice T1s are issuing is go for further deeper and protracted litigation. The company meanwhile suffers lowered valuations and T1s wants to milk it dry with extended litigatons.

PS: The due diligence that created the mess came with a T1 badge too albeit with so many assumptions and carve outs, the client said it was a waste of money too.

Why does NLUD gets to conducts its own seperate exam ? With this logic, every other NLU can conduct its own exam and suddenly you have 5-10 law exams per year, which is unsustainable for students.

NLUD should keeps its ego aside and merge with CLAT Consortium, letting CLAT be the only exam that gets you NLU(s).

Has anyone completed courses from Into Legal World? Their courses look similar to Bettering Results, Lawsikho, etc. but I wanted to know if the modules were actually beneficial for law professionals. I wrote that comment. I am from Bengal. I have also spent alot of time there. I agree and see why you say MB does not have any aura today. But i tell you, as someone who has seen the earlier regime, MB, and the new BJP one, she always, despite whatever her regime did (sandeshkhali, narada, rg kar, etc etc) had commanded some respect, and been and perhaps is still respected by many. Also, one of my friends got a 3-month assessment internship there without a stipend. Would it be worth it? What are the chances of converting it into a PPO, and what’s the fresher's salary there like?

I lateraled to Trilegal from another Tier-1 law firm. The process involved two rounds of interviews with the hiring partner, followed by a third round with another partner.

I received feedback within approximately 7–10 days of the final interview. Thereafter, discussions around retainer and band took another 4–5 days before the firm formally issued the offer letter.

Overall, the process took around six weeks from the time I first shared my CV to receiving the offer letter.

I was interning at a chamber for the past year where I was fortunate enough to get meaningful work and a fair amount of responsibility.

Now that the internship is ending, I'd like to keep that momentum going. Kindly recommend litigation/dispute resolution-focused firms or chambers in Bombay where interns are trusted with substantive work and can learn the practical side of disputes.

The comparison doesn't really make much sense because both firms operate in different spaces. If you're only looking at the number of deals, Legacy may have a higher volume because it does a lot of SME IPOs. But if you're comparing the quality of work, complexity of transactions, and overall exposure, T&S Law is definitely ahead. T&S Law regularly works on Mainboard IPOs and larger capital markets transactions, which generally provide much better learning and exposure than a high volume of deals. The drafting standards, diligence process, and interaction with bankers, and companies are also at a different level.

From a career perspective as well, I would choose T&S Law. The firm has a strong reputation in the market, and many people from T&S have later moved to Tier 1 and Tier 2 firms. If the objective is to build a solid capital markets profile and keep better exit opportunities open, T&S Law would be the better choice.

OP here. Went down the rabbit hole and did a little bit of digging. Turns out they did have an office in Delhi till at least last year. From what I could see, there were two partners in Delhi. One is now an independent AoR and the other started his own firm. Both exits happened in 2025. I’m certain there is no presence in Delhi anymore.

Another thing I noticed was that they were actively disclosing deals for between 2024-2025 but have barely made any disclosures in the last 6 months.

Instead of Sanskrit mottos from casteist Hindu law books, why not a motto in Arabic taken from the Quran or the Hadith? Jamia and AMU use mottos from the Quran, written in beautiful calligraphic Arabic script.

There are hundreds of relevant sayings one can find from these books, concerning justice and fairness. It would also be a very secular gesture at a time secularism is under threat in India.

The problem is that there are very few APs here. But to reiterate, there's no checklist or things like that which can ensure you a job. But ideally, if you have PhD and a couple of research publications, you should be able to land a job. Some places ask for experience as well.

She is a very smart lady who reads opportunities even before they come up. See how she and ms katju have built their career over social media, awards, paid Wikipedia pages etc. List of cases is smaller. She wil do very well because she can switch sides whenever opportunity arises. Ref Rss case, rg kar case.

Also, what are your views on the long-term scope of GIFT City as a niche practice area? Do you see it evolving into a specialised practice, or remaining a subset of existing corporate, finance and funds practices?

One is a full service enterprise with 100+ lawyers working for Fortune 500 clients and has offices in 4 cities, including BKC in Bombay.

The other is an ECM boutique started by an ex SAM SA in a village on the outskirts of Noida.

The filings speak for themselves. I just read a LinkedIn post by someone from legacy claiming they had the highest issuer side filings in the past 2 months, which (after research) is true. 8 cases for legacy, 1 for T&S. T&S has only done one refiling and has done one fresh case. ▮▮▮

Im aware this is pretty last min considered to the usual 6mnths pre application process but do you think i have a shot at any TMT or ADR firms if i apply rn in june for securing a July internship. (or firms with band 1 practice in these areas)

ALSO Please suggest Some good firm options in Delhi that may accept??

Any previous experiences where such firms have accepted last minute emails or applications??

So if you can't handle it, i would suggest you shift to MBA with a more social less path like finance or data. Something with numbers only. In law, tax would be the better option. Otherwise majority of places you will face this gossip, backstabbing and jealousy always.

I strongly disagree with you when you say that Mamta has/had an aura. She came into power only because of anti-incumbency against the Left. She consolidated her position not through good governance and by endearing herself to the people, but through rampant criminalisation. The moment the SIR and central security forces permitted a free and fair election, she got routed.

The problem with people in Delhi is that they have no idea of the reality in Bengal. They believe the nonsense that Rajdeep Sardesai, Ravish Kumar and other Delhi journalists say about Mamata being some sort of Mother Teresa. MG too fell for this propaganda.

That way, someone like Sanjoy Ghose (who is more aware of the state) was smart enough not to join the TMC. He can now plausibly say that he always a Congress supporter rather than TMC, then join the Congress without any criticism or stain on his record.
