Truly ahead of the curve, but the curve is going downwards.
The namecalling is cute. Also a bit hormonal no? Breathe. Women are everywhere. If they make you so angry, your blood pressure will not survive it.
Now coming on point to meet at a conference, very humbly, do u even realize that the chance to approach a partner at a conference is rare plus these conferences where partners like yourself participate are paid ranging around INR 25K-30K K which is a junior's monthly pay in most chambers!
Internship factor: people do not always have the best lives academically - I can talk for my own self- female, 27. coming from traditional middle class family, did my undergrad in commerce and law from a Tier-2 college at a Tier-2 city- applied to numerous internships to get a single opportunity at a T-1 to pave my way through, but did not got one!
Did various internships at T-2s and other boutique firms, took various assignments on freelance basis just to learn the work! however am still struggling to find a decent T-1 job. Now tell me what would you suggest:
1. I did not had the best childhood
2. my parents were not supportive
3. I do not come from a Tier-1 college or an NLU for that matter
But, I know the law, I have acquired decent drafting skills and research skills! Good at English. Have argued 5-6 matters in my 2.5 years of experience, and gained favorable orders mostly.
Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It all starts from college and trickles down to the worst lot of people - at firms, inhouse or chambers.
So Iโve been googling for Ozempic. Apparently very common among rich people in India and KJo is the poster boy. What about lawyers though?
The stereotyped perception of a Corp lawyer is someone who earns 5-10 cr a year, works in a swanky office, drives a Merc, dresses in Armani suits, smokes cigars, drinks champagne and dates the hottest women. This stereotype has been reinforced by certain American TV shows.
If I had to start my own business, a law firm would not even make it to the top 100 list of ideas. Also, if I was paid 25 lacs as a fresher, I wouldnโt have these many complaints.
Iโm about to turn 26 in a couple of months, and Iโm wondering if itโs still possible for me to secure a job in the legal sector given the significant gap period right after graduating from law school.

I empathise with you. Your future seems dark and depressing I am sure. But there is a way out.
1. Accept your present situation. No amount of grieving or melancholy can change your present circumstance. You are where you are. Even fifth dimensional powers cannot alter your current state. You are at rock bottom. Where else can you go but up?
2. Once you have truly accepted your reality, you can work to change it.
3. Exercise and get some physical activity. Run / functional training / anything really. This is incredibly important. Your bio chemistry is key to unlocking your true potential and destroying the emotions you must be experiencing at present.
4. Eat nutritious food. Avoid junk.
5. Two weeks of exercise and following a good diet and you will feel much better. The darkness will dissipate to a degree and your future will seem brighter.
6. Focus on what time you have left in college and study hard. Socialise. Let your hair down. Do what constitutes fun for you. Always remember - having fun is extremely important. You must actively think on what to do for recreation. Ideas will not come to you automatically.
Keep your head up young man. While there are many law graduates, the vast majority of them are duffers. There is enormous space in the profession for hard working and passionate folk. Your story has not even begun yet. You must work hard, perhaps twice as hard as others because of your circumstance. I am confident that if you apply yourself, you will do well. You have my best wishes.
Just wanted to say... my god does this practice area suck! I always thought that the comments here were exaggerated and that it can't be that mind numbing. Boy, was I wrong. How can a human being do this kind of work? Even the DD is worse FFS!
IPO IPO bol ke, iPad nikaal ke khud ko cool samajhte hai yeh log! That's all there is here. The work is a joke. Even a monkey can be trained to do this, in all honesty.
Is Legal profession the most rotten profession then?
PS: goes for women too
For example, I don't think any faculty member at Oxford would have taught Boris Johnson that the rules didn't apply to him/he could play merry hell with the Queen and democratic system by carrying out prorogation of parliament illegally for his own malicious ends, but he did it anyway; in the same way, nobody at Oxford would have given a green light to Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton (David Cameron, the UK prime minister whose career as PM ended shortly after the BREXIT vote) during his student days that burning 50 Pound notes in front of homeless people is the right way to behave, but he did it anyway.
In this way, if some NLS kids (like you perhaps?) refuse to take into account the values of hard work and serious, sincere engagement that your institution is trying to teach you, there is nothing NLS can do about it.
1. My PhD is not going well. I've already invested 2 years into it, have a very good supervisor and doing it from one of the best places in India. Yet, not much progress yet due to several reasons- mainly because I had to take up the job due to lack of funding.
2. Job Dissatisfaction: There isn't any satisfaction in the job I'm currently doing at the same place I'm doing my PhD. Students, staff or faculty don't give a shit about us, have to come in vacations and the work we do often feels very redundant. Researching on mundane topics, TAing, helping in organizing seminars- can't see practical relevance of most of it.
3. No moving up in the hierarchy - I've applied for AP positions at many places, including the place where I work. Somehow, they've preferred people with 0 experience with Oxbridge over me, who has about 5 years of Research Experience. I just feel stuck here, by the time I'll pass the PhD and have a good API score, I'll be 35 and then someone may take me for an entry level position.
4. Actual Imposter: There's imposter syndrome and then there's actual imposters. When I read papers in constitutional, international or human rights law, my writing feels very uninspiring. What's the point of producing boring papers that nobody's gonna read.
5. Finally, I'm ready to slog 13-14 hours in litigation, at least some result may come out of it. At the age of 35, I may start earning as much or more than an AP, while living in my hometown. What's the point of living thousands of miles away in a place you don't relate to and can never call a home.
Utna toxicity chahiye toh Trilegal, Gurgaon chale jao, constant shouting and infighting between folks who are trying to one-up against each other at all times.
Overall this scoring marks is "well known" to be totally divorced from learning (and for good reasons); and ordinary prudence dictates that you avoid risk.
Now enter good electives like Lovely Ma'am, SKG's etc. If you take them, you are sure to see your GPA and Rank dip. For your competitors ( rent seekers) will for sure go for these 'sub-standard' electives where marks are freely distributed as the holy man from Nazareth distributed bread. Bad profs give high marks to refined rent seeks. (good profs make you work.) (and remember that throughout the compulsory subject marks 5/6 times are already 'gamed' entities.) Barring Tri, KCo etc., most firms rely almost exclusively on GPA for the very round of screening - dayz and internship. Ofcourse again this GPA is nothing but a stack of proof how how well you game the system - people w high GPA just know how to do it well. You can choose to opt out of this game, get good electives - but you risk losing - worse, others will keep playing and winning. Zero sum, infact. (System rewards rent seekers and punishes people who wish to learn.)
Ofcourse, this is goddam despicable. 'Somebody' wanted to be different and focus really on learning. But NUJS and the free market punished 'everybody' who did it. These 5/6 profs highly reward bullshit and have little care for true learning. They give marks to 'anybody' who can do a set of few tasks and pander to their ego (an important move in the game, you see.) Fighting w the system is useless when 'somebody' has a loan to pay. And the flame for learning extinguishes when 'everybody' realises that sucking up the these 5/6 is really needed for the high GPA otherwise " almost all" HRs will throw 'your' CV in a bin.
Anybody who wonders who the 1/6 profs are, here's a simple test: they read the projects you submit carefully, so you start working on it atleast 7-10 days in advance.
However, the banking rainmaker, AB just shifted to Trilegal so not sure anymore
Sorry, we chose a desk in a corporate office than at a court for some stability because daddy/mommy didn't raise us in a court, but in no way does that mean you demean a practice field over the other. Litigation is great, the possible influence is phenomenal but hey, it's another practice area at the end of the day. Get off your high horse, it's giving 'self-madeโ trust fund baby.
Regards,
A first gen lawyer who wasn't born into a family of lawyers
Foreign trips- depends on person to person, if they have responsibilities, they would avoid initially, but manageable.
Female attention - gold digger types? Yes, otherwise rarely.
Respect in society - nil, nobody cares about your job. In my case, everytime I visit home, my mom asks me when are you leaving this job to appear for judiciary exams.
Major cases- depends. If it's a big transaction, yes. If it's a big case, then you are just a research assistant and don't get to argue and that part is done by senior advocate's office. Usually T1 peeps don't argue big matters by themselves.
Nice office- varies from T1 to T1.
And trust me, if you remove the money factor or if litigation starts to pay like T1s or even T2s, more than half of these shops would be empty in no time.
While I do understand socialising is not the same as befriending, doesn't socialisng require you to be helpful by nature? And that's a virtue so in dearth in law schools. So folks who actually manage to socialise and have made use of "contacts" made in law school, how? What is the catch here?
also, please share where or to whom did the mails actually work out, and not end up ghosted
I am not able to get past the first step.. plus I'm graduated with zero contacts. Any tips please?
- How can you confirm if a person is gay, lesbian, bisexual or queer/questioning? What if people lie about it and get a government job on that basis? Did the Congress mean trans persons and intersex persons, or the LGBTQIA+ community as a whole?
- Even assuming only trans and intersex persons are meant, does the Constitution permit it? I believe the Karnataka HC has suggested that the answer is YES and asked NLSIU to consider it in the context of student reservation, but is that enough?

Please do not start on hectic work schedule and everything. I know that.
What about other things? Earning 1L a month, saving at least 20k to invest on oneself, foreign trips in a year or two, female attention, respect in society, major cases, nice office etc.
please read places of worship act & babri judgment by same DYC.. do you think law of limitation exists ? especially for mughal era properties ?
Chandu was a most egregious chameleon judge ever in India... his colours changed outside of courtroom.. especially during preaching
jaysingh is no saint but her writeup is not factually wrong
My whole point is they donโt they have these qualities and just want to emulate some fugazi idea of a bossbtch corp lawyer giving airs and making money by cashing in on female quota privilege in addition to the privilege of their loaded families. If they exhibited assuredness, I wouldnt call them toxic or a wannabe bossbtch.
Women who have worked under the kind of snakes Ive described will also know what I mean.
I literally even called out feminine men who freak out, cant manage deadlines because they dont have the spine to push back when some unreasonable ask is made by client, and cant train and only shout because they are not subject matter experts themselves.
And this came within minutes.
On the other hand, if I join judiciary then problem would be with networking, as one needs to live like a hermit and hardly I will be able to connect with advocates.
