I’ve added for the firms I have worked at. Please add to the list. Much thanks!
It is unlikely that your law school will issue certificate in any name other than your legal names, which may cause problem after graduation since most employers will ask to see your graduation certificates and transcript. So the best recourse is to change your name legally, but avoid telling your family and use the old name around them.
However, HR later informed me that I didn’t clear the interview. Now, I’m confused and uncertain about what to do next because I thought I had everything to secure this opportunity.
No foreign law firm is looking at school grades either. They conduct their own tests and assessments to figure out if youre worth a vac scheme.
I am in an NLU myself and am in law for the same reason as you. Yet, litigation continues to be a nepotist profession for the way it is designed. Firms give you an early standing, but you do not reach where the king's son sits.
I graduated from a tier 1 NLU in 2024 and worked for few months in a corporate role that eventually wasn’t the right fit for me. After careful consideration, I decided to take a step back and start preparing for competitive exams like the UPSC, and other similar ones.
These exams have long and uncertain cycles—it can take one to two years to secure a position, even if you’re successful. While I’m committed to this preparation, I don’t want this time to feel like it’s wasted if things don’t go as planned. I want to set up a backup plan that gives me a sense of security and doesn’t derail my career progression.
I’m looking for advice from those who have been in similar situations or have insights into making this phase more productive and meaningful.
I’m currently enrolled with the Delhi Bar Council and exploring the idea of working under an advocate in my tier 3 town. My primary intention is not to dive deeply into litigation but to create a fallback plan. By gaining 4-5 years of experience alongside my preparation, I’d be eligible to take the AOR exam, which could provide a cushion for my career if needed. However, I want to prioritize my exam preparation and don’t plan to devote myself fully to litigation at this stage.
Another option I’m considering is pursuing an LLM from a local college in my town. While it wouldn’t be from a prestigious institution, this would qualify me for exams like the UGC NET and open up the possibility of becoming a law professor. This feels like a more structured backup plan compared to litigation, but I’m unsure if it’s the best use of my time or whether it will detract from my primary focus on competitive exams.
At the same time, I’m wondering if there are other paths I should explore to ensure this period is productive and that I’m building a stable career trajectory.
For those of you who’ve been in a similar situation or have experience navigating these uncertainties:
Please advise if there are any other strategies or opportunities I could pursue to make the most of this time while ensuring I have something concrete to fall back on?
I’d really appreciate any advice or insights you can share about managing this phase of my career and setting myself up for long-term stability. Thank you in advance for your help!

This thread might be of help.
i borderline loathe my legal name, and i have various reasons for it. recently decided that i would not use my legal name anywhere except important documents/ids, and stick to a name i chose for myself. keep in mind that i have no intention of legally changing it, not only because the process is extremely complicated, but also because my family is very much against it; i can't even if i wanted to, so i decided to find a way out by having "two names" (the legal one, and the one i prefer). now my concern is if it'll be alright for me to use this picked up name professionally (on cv, resume, linkedin, internship certificates). i've already started introducing myself to my batchmates w this name, so there's no problem there, but i don't know if there will be any identity mishaps if i use this name for my internships.
any help/advice/solution (?) would be greatly appreciated lol
All the best.
Are there any organizations or groups actively working to identify and advocate for the removal of such obsolete laws?
To any real introverts (including you), sky is (not) the limit.
Virgo: As law firm-ites
Worst suited: Zodiac signs the are introverted
As someone with over a decade of experience and doing quite well in my field (T1, litigation), I believe being introverted is a blessing. My seniors appreciate my brevity and enjoy talking to me because I’m straightforward, and it gives them an opportunity to speak more.
I confirm this. Also, hiring has been complete for 2031 batches as well (We have started offering PPOs to students in CLAT Coaching as now). Please don't bother applying.
What databases do y'all use to do research? I used google scholar and hein rn in my first sem but they have a lot of bad literature which i was called out on for citing in my vivas
JSTOR has quality literature but not that much law stuff (what what there is usually is related to public law)
Our college does not have access to OUP/Bril/TandF
Stop cosplaying poverty when you’re in a very comfortable space. It’s disgusting and narcisisstic. And no one is buying it.
I always think that law firm life is challenging in the initial years, but by the end of 10 years, I'll make ₹1-3 crore per year. With the judiciary, this amount can be touched, maybe through corruption (does it happen?).
So, my questions:
1. 1. Do law firm partners make such an amount, and can an ordinary person with zero legal background achieve it?
2. If they make, is it the money after the deduction done by paying the expenses of firm.
2. 3. If yes, how many years would it take if I join a Tier 2/3/Boutique firm after graduation as an associate?
3. 4. Comparison with Judiciary: The corruption part.
4. 5. The factors behind making that ₹1 crore, and how much of it is saved compared to the judiciary, considering that after 10 years, the post will likely be CJM (in our state, promotions happen fast).
I came in Mumbai 3 years ago with a salary of 14 lpa. Enjoyed my time (whatever I got) without any cash crunch. Kids don't get it 100000s still a great amount to start off anywhere. My dad who was a grade B govt employee had us raised with a household salary of 12-15 lpa in a tier 2 city (govt perks included yes) - but stop cribbing. Unless you got married off in 4th year and your spouse is a dependent you need not worry. Itna time hi nahi rahega tere pass to shed the mint.
However, selection for training contracts in foreign law firms is completely another matter. While per my understanding some law firms are stopping this practice, many do still ask for school grades and are picky about that.
salary for A0- 25-35k with maybe yearly increase of 10k each. these figure are for boutique in media entertainment law. these firm won't tell you while in your assessment internship, the pay they offer, so that you invest your time and energy and you are left with nothing but to join them at the very end, when salary is disclosed.

2. If there's more than one senior, have them talk to each other and decide priority - along with your delivery timeline.
3. Always inflate the time needed by 1 hour (for large tasks) and 20 minutes (for small tasks).
Be articulate and crisp in answers. Prepare for follow up questions and be prepared to answer basic HR questions.
Additionally, it’ll be with a SA/PA along with HR exec and might be around 10 mins long
I am a dropper who wrote CLAT 2025 and secured a rank that can get me the following colleges, assuming no changes made by the SC case- MNLU(M), HNLU, NLUO, RMLNLU, RGNUL and anything below. I also cleared SLAT to get into SLS-P and LNAT to get into JGLS, although I might have to take a student loan for either colleges. I did secure the seat at Jindal for backup but am very confused as to whether I should do the same for SLS-P as I've heard Symbi might be a better pick than Jindal. I am also open to writing clat again if necessary. I am very confused as to what option I should pick, hence the post. Could someone please guide me as to what my best option would be?
Thank you very much for the responses, and I'm sorry if these questions have been asked before.
I am A2 in my lawfirm, and honestly I am tired and done with myself. I love the M&A space and legit want to grow, however I am always doing silly mistakes. There will be always a typo or something that is not thought through in my draft. I try to be as vigilant as possible. I re - read my stuff multiple times before I re - read my stuff. But there will be still a mistake. Nothing i ever do is mistake free. This impacts me negatively because people think i am stupid or careless but i am not.
Would genuinely like to know any methods to improve so I can focus on working on more better things.
