We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.
Therefore, in using the site, you must agree to do your best to uphold these community guidelines.
Note that what you find here is written and moderated by anonymous people on the internet.
Therefore everything you read here is very likely unverified, rumour, speculation and/or downright false.

You also agree to report any inaccurate or malicious comments with the buttons. Moderators take action within 24 hours, as required and appropriate under law.
Our full terms and conditions apply too.
Do you solemnly agree to all of the above?
I appreciate your help but everyone just wants to presume and attack people on this forum. I’ve been taxed differently for the time I’ve worked as an in-house counsel, hence my query.
What are your priorities in life?
Would your savings be enough to travel for a year? [I would suggest doing some research before jumping in]
Do you have any financial responsibilities?
Are you confident enough to take a break after one year (for one whole year) thinking you would be of value to a firm and they would want you back with enthusiasm?
Nothing wrong with travelling for a year, or even doing it at your designation. Don't listen to anyone who says NO. If you can answer the above questions satisfactorily, are confident about your decision, do you.
- RPNLU Prayagraj [reservation and vacancy]
- HPNLU Shimla [vacancy]
- Nirma Universtiy
- Bennett University
- I will also be MH-CET law.
please suggest some better options as well.
also Is it worth going to a t-3 nlu and getting that nlu tag considering one does enough hard work? can one get into a tier 1, if not, tier 2 law firm with a good package?
Thanks for the preference list suggestions, I'll definitely consider it.
I will join as an A0 with the arbitration team of a Tier 1 firm. My joining date will probably be in the third week of July. Since I am in my fifth year, I have a lot of free time, and I was wondering how I should prepare myself. Are there areas of law I should brush up on? Is there any other skill I should try to pick up?
I am asking this because I feel I am getting lazy in my 5th year and I know it is difficult, but I want the transition to be as smooth as possible.
2 lakhs you can only travel all over the country that too by the cheapest trains you can find.
Can't really travel the world with 2 lakhs.
And no, it wouldn't be easy to get back in.
1 year of experience + 1 year of traveling doesn't make a good CV for a person two years out of college.
Take JGLS if you have the money. Avoid RML like the plague, it's a ▮▮▮ of broken dreams, failure and zero placements. Hardly anyone gets placed, no tier 1s come to campus and a culture of mediocrity thrives
& In which T1 firm should I apply for assessment internships to maximize my chances?"
Which practice area is better between these two?

NLSIU is literally the legal genius factory of India. Boils down to academic rigour and strict standards. No grade inflation here, you gotta work hard.
Have been regularly advising at least 6 of the top 10 private banks.
JSA- Aashit Shah and Dina WadiaSAM- Veena S. and Soummo Biswas
CAM- Leena Chacko
AZB- Aanand Shah
Khaitan- Manisha Shroff
Trilegal- Ameya Khandge and Kannan Rahul
In that case, is there any field where real productivity happens. Like where there is physical manifestation of output for the work done. If innovation and STEM careers are an alternative for this, then how can one transition to such space without much hiccups.
PS: This is not for those who applied through connections. I know that you know one month in advance that you have been "selected". I am asking those who applied through the Google Form.
PPS: Please help OP.
So I am wondering if the selections have already been made, or have they not made them yet, presumably because they are busy with shifting to NALSAR.
Pray help the OP.
If you lock up criminals today - some day the state will lock up innocent people isn’t actually convincing. We can actually differentiate in life between like and unlike. We do it everyday. Police conduct raids on drug dens everyday without ever bursting through my house. Security check on airplanes literally check bags everyday and people understand that safety is more important than privacy when you’re up in the air and a crazy person might have a knife or a gun or a bomb.
Privacy is not the only value at play here- the rule of law , the safety of other students and yours , all of that is at play too. The right to privacy is a judicial creation that’s not anywhere in our constitution. Created whole cloth by judges it can be destroyed whole cloth by judges too. Law students should know better than making such simplistic WhatsApp arguments.
In any case I don’t actually disagree with you. I’d like for universities to not check my bags. And for everyone to imbibe whatever substances they choose provided they aren’t being a danger to others. But I do think it should come with responsibility. It’s not fair to demand privacy to do crimes while holding the university accountable for your actions. If you choose to do drugs- your mental decline , your failing academic career , the crimes you commit , whether or not you OD should all be your responsibility alone. Don’t cry or complain about the admin when you won’t give them a shot to fix the problem. If admin catches you with drugs - they are duty bound to initiate criminal proceedings. If you can bear all that responsibility - like the adults you’re pretending to be. Then you have the freedom to do as you choose.
That’s all I’m saying. Explain to me why that’s unfair ? Why do Indian students want to rebel and be babied at the same time? Why ask to be treated like adults when you’re choosing to drown yourself in alcohol and drugs and entering into relationships and then demand to be protected like children when you get in trouble because of your choices ? There’s really no way to have it both ways.
Have approx 4L in equity. Gambled or spent the rest of it.
I’m currently at an A0 level and will complete a year in May. I’m thinking about taking a sabbatical to travel the world for a year. I have savings of around 2 lakhs. How wise would it be to leave my job after completing one year and pursue this travel plan? Also, would I be able to re-enter the workforce after taking such a break?
Procedure for applying?
Is there decent work-life balance and pay?
30,000 for an hour Conference
Life set hai.
….even a “new” senior we brief charges 2.5-3/L hearing but does 3-7 matters a day, that is 7.5L/day at the low end to 21L/day at the high end. For tax these guys also do several opinions / week + conferences at 0.5-1.5L per conference which are equal in number to the number of matters for the next day. So no a senior does not need to charge 5L/matter but does need to be “busy”. I know of at least 15L tax seniors at BHC making 10Cr ++
Its just pure nepotism and connections that help Senior Advocates make that kind of money. A chamber of a senior Advocate would not be able to handle so many big cases otherwise.
Brace yourselves, this is going to be a bit
being from an NLU gives you an edge in the competition, for sure. But ppl i’ve spoken to (including coaching centre faculty) tell me that it’s going to be extremely tough if you want to to get an internship opportunity or if you want a job after you’re done with schooling.
Im going to give my 100% ofc, including participating in extra curricular activities. But there’s still this fear in me that spending all the money is not going to end up being worth. we’re not very financially well off either.
Because as an aunty who’s daughter studies in an NLU told me “The top recruiters aren’t even going to look your way”, “You’ve got to beg for jobs” and “Getting a Tier 1 would be like a dream”
maybe she exaggerated that a bit but i still cant help but wonder, is being from a Non-NLU really that unsafe? even if i do give my all, will i be cooked lol?
and please do tell me if i should go for SLSH or SLSN since those are the best options i have in my hands rn. I was aiming for pune but fell extremely sick on the day of SLAT and here i am. drop is not an option either.
how can i compensate for not having the advantages that come with being an NLU student? Will that really be a huge problem?
I don’t even think bag searches work, but if you’re gonna hold admin accountable when bad things happen because of drugs you consume , then you have to give admin a shot at preventing those things.
Why is AISA always on the wrong side of every issue ? It’s all culture war lately and nothing to do with poor people.
I’m not being nasty for no reason. You’re discouraging someone from being ambitious for absolutely no reason. School grades are not a factor in any decision making for graduate schools or for hiring by law firms. They just aren’t.
They put A levels on that form because that form is usually used by folks coming out of the English education system. They would have no idea how to contextualise your grades. Think of all the state boards , icse, cbse, not to mention different standards between schools for a GPA. You can fill that information if you like ( not all firms even ask for it) but no one is making decisions based off of that.
The only place I’ve seen people ask for school grades is some stupid government jobs , and even there they aren’t using it evaluate- they’re using your school certs to identify you. And it’s only because it’s government jobs- they used to once be handed out to people with just high school certificates.
2. Of course they conduct their own tests, that everyone knows. Have you ever filled out foreign law firm (at least UK ones) applications in the past? Because if you had, you may have noticed they ask for "A Level" grades? Do you know what that even means? Stop being so nasty and randomly attacking people.
