I've said this before and I'm reiterating: please don't mislead kids into joining JGLS. There are middle class kids out there who might join the college hoping to get a decent ROI. Nothing against JGLS, but it is criminal to pretend that they could provide more opportunities and placements than the top 10 NLUs. They have great faculty but only place around 70 or so people with a batch size of 600.

I am not exaggerating when i say i practised mocks just a week before the exam and that was my whole prep.

I feel like I wont be able to even perform well in the uni if i go without any prep cause theres a reason , this entrance is held .

And more importantly i feel like I am just fooling myself and my dad .

So yeah i have decided to take a drop .

There’s no coaching centre in my state so i am planning to join the nearest one that is in another state and is not that reputated but atleast would help me a bit , its Career Launcher in Guwahati .

The classes are 4 days a week form 4:30 to 6:30 in the evening and yeah i guess mocks every week.

Please give me advice on how to ace the exam , ofcourse i will have my reservation as a safety net but i still wanna ace the exam and prepare like a general candidate and work my ass off , so i actually feel i deserve it .

I have a year left of law school, and I'm slowly making peace with the fact that I'm fucked. I'm from a tier 1 NLU, with largely average grades, good competitions and extracurriculars, but I wasted years being adamant that I would do tech policy, and safe to say I don't want to do that anymore.

I had my first internship in Corp at a boutique firm and I want to explore that side further, and I can see myself doing this for a long time. I know day zero is pretty much closed to me because I have one corporate experience, and everything else is in a niche no one really cares about anymore. If i were to pivot to Corp entirely, how do I go about it?

The question is same as the title. I have been working as a paralegal/trainee for over 6-7 months, and have been planning to switch to another place for a while - since I feel like they're stringing me along. Had to accept the offer since after graduation (in 2024), offers were pretty bleak.

I have been emailing and sending applications for a while, but as always that's not really resulting in a anything. Is there any other way I can apply to other places? I've tried reaching out to people on LinkedIn as well but hasn't resulted into a lot.

NLIU trolls trying to pass off random people as doyens of excellence and upvoting their own comments. Dude, nobody considers these people as scholars, except you. Just go and focus on the real achievements that your university produces, the alumni who are doing well. Nothing else.

I am about to enter my final year of law school and have done almost everything a law student should do, curricular or extracurricular. I am in the Top five of my batch, have won four national moots, and have several publications in journals and book chapters, besides other wins. I have also been invited to judge competitions by other NLUs and non-law universities, all of which are in my CV.

However, the issue I face currently is that I hold the tag of a particular private university (if you wish to identify the same, the only hints I can provide are that it produces more influencers than lawyers and has branches all over India). This, too, was not out of choice but partly out of pressure and partly out of my stupidity. My parents were initially against law as a subject and did not let me appear for CLAT, and by the time I could convince them that this was the field I wanted to opt for, the registrations were over. I did not have it in me to wait for another year and appear for it (which is where the stupidity part essentially was). As for bad luck, I was offered a 100% scholarship by the university, but that too was later taken back by them, citing reasons of me being a "Covid batch" student (which again makes no sense, but stupid rules, I guess). I did try to challenge the same quite a few times, yet nothing fruitful came out of it. Even after I was eligible for the CGPA-based merit scholarship, the institution did not provide the same to our batch, which is where a great deal of resentment arose on my end for the university.

However, the background was written primarily to explain why I bear this dilemma.

I am currently interning at a Tier-2 firm and have been accepted for an internship at a Tier-1 firm next year. However, that is also when my degree will come to an end, and I feel that despite all the efforts I have put in, they might go to waste because I will not land the firm of my dream, regardless of all the efforts I put into building my CV over these four years. I have interned at other places and have LoRs from most of them, including a High Court Judge, yet I do not see how they would help in this particular scenario.

This has been eating away at my mind. I do not know what I can do to get placed in a decent T-1 firm, especially considering our university's terrible placement cell. I do not think interning once under the said T-1 firm would be enough to bag a PPO or even an assessment internship, and the only reason that I bagged this internship this late was that I do not have any powerful connections in this field. The tag of that particular university did not help either.

I would be more than happy to receive suggestions or assistance from anyone who has faced the same or from a senior who would like to help out in any way possible.

NLU students are from middle class families and should stop comparing themselves with Jindal students. The vast majority of Jindal students are from very wealthy families. Children of top lawyers, CEOs, businessmen etc. Without even lifting a finger, their family wealth will see them through a life of luxury and comfort, far in excess of what a middle-class NLU student can afford even with a tier 1 law firm job. Also, if any Jindal student wants a proper career, no problem there — jobs or internships at good places are assured, either through the university or their contacts. A 1 crore LLM or 2 crore MBA abroad as well if necessary, plus a job abroad after that. So you’ll see many Jindal students with foreign degrees and jobs at top law firms or companies in London, NY, Mumbai etc.

As a Hyderabadi, I must say, Bengaluru is a much larger legal market than Hyderabad, and will continue to be so in the foreseeable future. Not sure about Ahmedabad, so not going to comment. In Hyderabad, the main problem is a lack of enterprise and the unwillingness to take on challenges. Hyderabad law firm lawyers lack courage and innovation, and also lack the ability to think out of the box, unlike law firm lawyers in Delhi NCR and Mumbai, who are more prone to taking on mandates of varied nature. In Hyderabad and Telangana, there is a famous proverb in the telugu language - "Thinnaama, Padukunaama, Tellarinda", which loosely translates to "We ate, we slept, and it is morning". This lazy attitude, when combined with the lack of enterprise, lack of attention to detail, and absolute disregard for time, coupled with the false Telugu pride when it comes to money, pride in eating spicy food (the backward thinking in short), is the reason why Hyderabad has no hope and no scope as a legal market in India.

I am not going to contribute to any tier listing bs, but here are some factors I considered when I chose to go to a T2 NLU instead of Jindal (which my family could afford, so I made the consideration on the merits of each institution).

- Alumni, where are they working, are there many people are senior roles at law firms, in house etc?
- Placements percentages according to how many students are there in the batch, where people are being placed
- Speak to students are the institutions you are considering and let them tell you the present ground reality, what is shown on linkedin is very different from things irl - I spoke to people at my NLU and JGLS when I was deciding, which helped.
- Seeing if the students are mooting, publishing, etc actively- reflects a certain culture in the college

There wont be any one size fits all uni for everyone, please dont let silly considerations like its a small town or "i dont like the political party in that state" be the reason you chose deny yourself a quality education that can help you build a quality career path. College matters, be mindful when considering the place you chose to spend your five years.

B'lore has strong commerce flows. As long as the startup scene exists, it will be a good place to work in.

Hyderabad is getting there. It lacks the kind of high-paying job market prevalent in Bangalore (Amazon and Google will only hire so many people every year) where there's a startup that's willing to burn VC money on personnel expenses.

Ahmedabad is dead. GIFT didn't take off the way they wanted it to and is now a BPO ghost town. There's no QOL, the summers are horrid, the food is bad and there's nothing to do but leave.

I couldn't tell you about a Mac. But a good Windows laptop should suffice, since you will need to use MS Word alot. Preferably lightweight since you will be carrying it around during internships. If you're willing to spend on HP, Dell, or otherwise Asus, Lenovo, etc. Lots of people at my uni got those 360 laptops thinking they would make notes with them like an iPad, honestly, no one really does. Usually, people who separately have an iPad use it for notes.

I am doing an assessment internship with a tier one. Got some task from the Senior Partner but I don't think I managed to deliver well. I am feeling really low about this. So far I have done well in all other deliverables given by everyone else in the team, except some very specific research work. Now I feel like I don't think my research is comprehensive enough to adequately provide answers.

In general when in comes to pure gen corp research work, I feel like I have done well but may be not when it comes to other non-corporate research work that Gen Corp teams do.

Is it common for interns to not provide great research work? Does it get better when one joins the profession? Please help.

I have an interview in a couple of days as well along with presentations to prepare. My hands are shaking as I write this and I am really scared about whether I will get a PPO from this firm or not.

My friend, firstly go easy on yourself. You are not doing anything wrong. In a 'boutique firm' there is literally no place for a non-performer. Unlike T1 firms that carry a lot of legacy deadweight, if you were really poor at your job you would have been relieved by now. If the Partner and the Associates are being nice and helpful to you, that means you are liked and they genuinely want to invest time and effort to train you better.

On the facet that you are being made to learn a lot afresh (if I understood you correctly), there is nothing wrong with that. Every team (ok, Partner) has their own way of functioning and they are training you to just bring your functioning style as close to their approach as possible. It is not necessarily a reflection of your understanding of the law, it is more them ensuring you sync up well to the way the team operates.

Dont cloud your mind with such thoughts. See the bright side that the work culture seems positive and they are investing time to train you. That is usually an excellent sign.

Hello, I'm entering my third year of law school and wanted to know the timeline of applying to a vacation scheme, which is scheduled for after fourth year. In this regard I wanted to know when the process opens and closes (how many semesters of grades and internship then will reflect while making the application). Would also be grateful if someone could let me know first how to prepare for the experience generally considering two years into law school, most students have had no meaningful corporate experience and as a result nothing to genuinely develop their interest to that basis. I do hope to do some firm internships in the winter break and the summer break after too. And second, as far as gpa is concerned is it necessarily limited only to extremely high ranks or is a fairly high gpa enough to get through, considering other factors are also part of the application (would also be helpful if someone could help out with what these might be). In Indian law firms, does the dispute resolution team include litigation, arbitration, and mediation, or are there separate teams for arbitration and mediation? Any insights would help as I am looking to move into the arbitration and mediation team but want to avoid litigation. Thanks.

I have come across two courses which may be useful - one is the Securities Law PGD by GLC, which is a year long, and for which applications have unfortunately long closed; and the other being the Executive Program in Securities and Business Laws offered by BSE Institute, which is affiliated with the Bombay Stock Exchange.

How are the kids doing better than their NUJS counterparts exactly? Not in placements, not in higher studies with scholarships, not in policy bodies. Good faculty being attracted to NLUD hasn't happened in the last four years. As for Delhi, it sure has its advantages, but you need to have a death wish too in terms of environment and safety issues alone.

Not sure how to feel about corporate law firms turning their logos rainbow for Pride Month — and then a few, like Khaitan and IndusLaw, not doing even that. I wish there was something more. A rainbow logo isn’t enough, but it’s something (or are they just doing it cause its trendy??). Most queer folks in law still feel unsafe being out at work. We need real support — not just gestures.

Relax. 90% of folks at tier-1s are lateral entries. The illness excuse is genuine but honestly, no one will care. Rather than begging for a new job, go with what you have for a couple of years and then shift. You may think you’re very knowledgeable but that doesn’t mean others will perceive you similarly, especially an experienced partner.

Have you ever been taught how to read? (I doubt it, the absolute horror of somebody "typing" Hindi by using a keyboard comprised of English letters should be indication enough.) I come from a Tier-1 NLU but couldn’t secure a job during Day Zero as I was genuinely unwell, which had a significant impact on my preparation and performance. Later, I did secure a job through Day 1 placements in an in house role, with decent pay and prospects. However, I have a strong and genuine interest, as well as knowledge and experience in financial laws (securities law/ banking law/ M&A)

I recently gave interview through individual application, the partner specifically questioned why I didn’t get a law firm job through Day Zero. They did not seem very willing to accept my reason of illness. I understand that many candidates might use excuses, but it’s disheartening when a genuine situation is seen the same way. It felt like they were thinking: “If he didn’t make it through Day Zero, why should we consider him now?”

I’m struggling to understand how to land a role at a law firm, especially in the teams I genuinely aspire to work with. This has always been my dream, and honestly, I know I am better equipped, both in terms of skill and dedication, than many who were or are being hired. Circumstances weren’t in my favour at that particular point in time, but why should that define my future? Why not assess me based on where I stand now?

A decent job isn’t enough to satisfy me, I want to do the work I truly care about. I’m just looking for a fair chance. I really need someone to help me out.

Stop harping on about reservation seats or whatever, attend an NLU and see the sheer economic and geographical disparities in our high school system. NLUs give students from tiny villages a chance to make it big. You getting a CLAT rank of 800 while you went to the best English-medium schools in metro cities is nothing to write home about while reservation kids in NLUs getting ranks of 900-1000 when they came from absolutely nothing and some of their parents never went to school or spoke English

i have met some of the most wonderful humans in my good for nothing law college. i am on my second litigation internship and i see that you are right to say all this but opposite is also true. maybe it is about the people who you are around(energy vampires)? this may all be true in how legal profession works in some way but i dont think you are giving yourself the opportunity to see the entire picture. if you are in highly competetive environment of course that can take a toll on your well being. it really is such a rewarding field. there is just so much help to give but if you stay at the wrong places around wrong people with wrong incentives feeling like this is to be expected.

There is a lot of scaremongering here, so let me add my two bits.

I am a native Bangalorean, but almost every one of my friends has moved here from another city. All of them love Bangalore, and are proud to call it their home.

Firstly, there are no mobs going around, and looking for Hindi speakers/ "North Indians" to attack. Any "anti-Hindi sentiment" you hear about is almost always limited to a situation where someone rudely demands that locals speak Hindi, and are told "It's not our national language". This is almost always triggered by some larger fight, and language is just an incidental strawman that is brought up.

As long as you pick up some 6-8 words of basic Kannada, start with them, and politely ask if people can speak English or Hindi (or Tamil, which also works well in Bangalore), you'll be fine. Almost everyone in Bangalore can speak both Hindi and English at a conversational level (including vendors and cab drivers), but let them lead with the language of choice, and you'll be OK.

Coming to "identity politics"- the government is basically promoting more Kannada. This means that they are pushing for more jobs for Kannada speakers, more visible use of Kannada, and quotas at a lower level (think security guard, sweeper, etc) for Kannada speakers in private firms. There are also local quotas in education (including in CLAT) for people with "Kannada domicile"- but if you look at the names at the top, there are a lot of Agarwals and Mukherjees and Kurians and other non-Kannadiga names. As long as they've been in Karnataka for the qualifying period, they are counted as "locals" and can avail the quotas.

There is also a backlash against the government's push of Hindi over Kannada- and this is a real problem for many people, especially in rural areas. For many years, bank forms were only available in English and Hindi. There was an incident last week where a public sector bank manager refused to help customers who only spoke Kannada, insisting that they speak Hindi. There were instances of some signboards being only available in Hindi and English. A lot of the "language and identity politics" that you speak of comes from trying to correct these Central Government missteps. It's sad that a State government has to step in and do all this, but think about it from the perspective of those who are not getting basic services in their own state and in their own language.

Bangalore is still a vibrant and thriving city, with all the things that makes a city amazing- food, culture, art, sports, and a strong economy. Don't let Twitter and Reddit hot takes scare you away.

Section 7(5) of Companies Act 2013, provides in case false information is submitted to Registrar, such person will be liable for action under section 447.

Section 447 specially provides a definition of fraud says such xyz actions against the company or its creditors or any other person. Mind the word (it’s).

Now if such fraud is declared after submission of documents to registrar and before incorporation of company, how will such instance come within purview of definition of fraud?
