As someone who is hunting corporate internships in T1s, I've been constantly given the advice to cold email, follow up, then call. But some others say that cold emailing gets you blacklisted. And, I know others who have called up partners and gotten internships just by being shameless (for the lack of a better word). In your experience, which is the best way? What firms actually blacklist you for this? (P.S. I'm talking about publicly available emails/contacts)

I'm not very experienced but work in securities regulatory at a t1, from what I have heard from my seniors, it has no value at t1's but will hold value at boutiques or counsels if u wish to work in litigation, corporate the value is present for in house gigs though, so if you are desperate for a job or love securities and cant land a gig, would recommend but please speak to others to confirm this is all hearsay.

Dating can be extremely intimidating as lawyers, you’re always working, barely any time and even when you do date other non- lawyers they never understand how it is or that you can’t always be available and that work takes priority, how are other lawyers dating? Is there any way to exclusively date a lawyer?

The only really good book on drafting I know of is 'Modern Legal Drafting'. Are there any good books on drafting, regarding pleadings or otherwise, in the Indian context which are not just bundles of templates and actually give useful practical advice by drawing on the author's experiences as well as statutes and case law? NFSU is a public university, and as taxpayers, we should be happy to see this progress. Let us not forget that it is the world's first and only university dedicated solely to forensic sciences and allied disciplines. Its impact is much more than just placements. Saffron party isn't serious abt winning here. Sure, it is entirely possible that as in 2011, the meek will vote for change en masse. But that doesn't mean that saffron party will put up laughable candidates. Just look at the ones being put up for Jadavpur, Tollygunj, Ballygunj, Bidhannagar and so many other places. The walkover is absolutely crystal. The GOP and Reds actually have a dearth of candidates. But saffron?

Unlike chatterati I am agnostic about the RG Kar victim's mother potentially getting saffron ticket for her home constituency. But the absolute laziness of saffron is so transparent. They do some of the most cutting edge work in the industry. They mostly cater to foreign clients so there is hourly dollar billing. This automatically means their lawyers are some of the highest paid right now.

Its a dream firm for every lawyer. There is a reason Rajesh Begur is known as the 'Godfather of Corporate Law' in industry circles.

How useful is a judicial internship, if at all, for someone who is aspiring to make a career in corporate law?
I am currently a 4th-semester student in a T3 NLU, and I might consider a judicial internship at the High Court after my 5th semester if such is the case.

Hello! As someone who has been writing about lawyers on and off for more than 15 years, I long ago accepted the ocean that existed between my pay packet and those of the lawyers I was writing about.

This week, however, Kirkland & Ellis has taken this to new heights. Equity partners at the world’s highest-grossing law firm have pocketed an average $11.1mn each for last year’s work, marking a record for the Chicago-founded outfit.

The firm also posted a record $10.6bn in revenue in 2025, becoming the first law firm to break through the $10bn barrier for annual revenues.

The results further secure Kirkland’s place as the most envied law firm in Big Law, said Scott Gibson, founder of legal recruiter Edwards Gibson.

“Over the past 15 years, Kirkland & Ellis has set the pace in Big Law. It is both disliked and envied in equal measure by its peer and near‑peer rivals — many of whom once regarded it as a poor cousin, but who were long ago eclipsed by it,” he added.

“Kirkland has industrialised the premium end of the market; today’s numbers merely show how far in front it now is.”

Kirkland is among the first US firms to report their financial results this year. So far, things are looking pretty healthy all round.

Cooley posted an 18 per cent increase in profit per equity partner (PEP) for 2025, handing partners an average $4.57mn, while Goodwin passed the $4mn PEP mark for the first time.

“The elite law firms are continuing to deliver consistent year-on-year double-digit growth,” said Siobhán Lewington, a partner at legal recruiter Macrae. “This is the result of a laser focus on taking greater market share by hiring the best talent . . . [and] the increasing adoption of a two-tier partnership structure also allows firms greater flexibility.”

Hi, I am a final year student in a T-2 Nlu. Have previously pursued 3 assesment internships at reputed firms in my practice area, however was unable to convert the same. Therefore, I have been applying to the Partners over the mail everyday but have received no response for the same yet. Recently I have received a personal number of a Partner in a T-2 firm from one of my previous associates, however, I am kinda in frenzy if I should text the Partner about the same and if yes, then how should I text him about the same. I will be highly grateful for any kind of guidance or suggestion that can be bestowed by any senior here. Thanks in advance!

Hi Boss, that is a normal problem to face. Do not stress about it. I am from Trichy but had Hindi as a second language. As long as you have the basic words / sentence structure, I strongly recommend you just start speaking to people in Hindi - it really helped me get better.

You'll make a fool of yourself but the sooner you do the better off you will be.

All three firms combined will have at least 100 partners in Delhi alone, and I am not even counting the rest of the T1 firms. Do you recognize every one of them by face? Please think before you float such thoughts publicly. It's better to message/comment on LinkedIn, congratulating/discussing their wins/articles, than to run behind such tinkertale ideas.

I understand the enthusiasm, but you need to start putting your brain in the driver's seat to make it big in this industry. Also, try utilising your free time to either intern or write a blog post or article. It’s that time of the year again, when we shuffle teams/firms, hoping for a better workplace (and, obviously, better compensation).

I can't think of a way to keep that sheet updated in the long-term (unless people start adding dates next to compensations), so maybe we can just use this thread to share recent compensations?

If you want to cold mail to right partner, it is your diligence to search for him, talk to people, seniors. People who can endure this search shall be worthy of the opportunity.

Indian firms when?

You need <100 rank for NLSIU, while you get CNLU at around 1k or more (I am not sure), while the number of candidates appearing for the exam remains the same. If you still think that the level of screening or the quality of students is the same, then I would not be able to convince you further, sorry!

Don't decide to go in banking and finance right now you will end up doing nothing. Instead focus on ur subjects and then intern at different places and then decide which career path is best suitable for u

I've been at it for months, have a decent CV and cover letter, and always try to add something that shows I keep up with their work. I am from a tier-2 / tier-3 NLU looking to intern at tier 1s or tier 2s in the General Corporate / M&A, PE/VC space. Have never gotten an offer. despite 50-60 emails. Please drop names of who reply / actually forward your emails to HRs. (if you are comfortable)

Hi, I'm a delusional first year NLU student, currently at home in Delhi for a week or so; I had this idea in my mind to go to a club in this free time where I can meet as many partners and associates from SAM/CAM/Khaitan etc. To my very beloved seniors in Delhi who're working in these firms (or any other ones), I'd really appreciate if you could recommend me some clubs where I could potentially network with a good number of people from the industry - it's coming from a place of desperation to make and potentially maintain 'connections' w these people. Clubbing & having that kind of fun is my cup of tea so hopefully would meet like-minded individuals there. Please lmk which clubs should I go to, and what's the best day and time to go so as to maximise the possibility to meet the sample size lol.
