To answer your main question, yes, it is the campus., especially for girls. I know a girl who unhappily left NUJS for NLUJ after seeing the campus. Boys are generally messy and have no problem living there, but girls give a lot of emphasis to cleanliness and hygiene. Also, NLUJ has single rooms.

😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Look at the priority of our government! Complete inaction as Manipur burns, Delhi flooded, rising prices, election violence in Bengal, tax evasion by billionaires, rail safety neglected etc. But they get all worked up over a movie and minister Anurag Thakur (of Goli Maro salo ko fame) has told the censor board to now cut the Gita scene! Someone should petition the Supreme Court about it. Like WTF can't the movie be certified 18 and they show the sex scenes ? Ironically, 90% of the country has seen the pirated version online, which is uncensored. The 10% who watch it legally and respect copyright law are being penalised! We stan Christopher Nolan and don't support piracy of his movies, but you are forcing us to watch the pirated version!
Mainly the difference comes from the location -- Delhi is better than Hyderabad which is balanced by the fact that Hyderabad is older
Or should I focus on boutique firms instead?
Proficiency in research, reviewing contracts and basic drafting is a big plus.
Basic and workable understanding of Companies Act is presumed.
Always find those small corners where you can add value and be of use to your seniors.
Pour in more efforts than reasonable/ required efforts for the task.
And last but not the least...
Be respectful and approachable.
Whilst doing CS, Tax laws grabbed my interest but after reading a lot of these LI threads (and having interned in two T1 tax law firms) on considering to streamline my career towards tax laws, I've realised it might not be as great an idea.
I've considered all the pros and cons but the only two things that stand out for me is that it'll be relatively easier to get started in Tax Laws as it's a niche for lawyers so I wouldn't be put up in direct competition with NLU Students as I would in a Gen Crop/ M&A/ PE-VC team. But it is extremely gruelling with a steep learning curve and near to zero mobility down the line.
Wish to know how I can best utilise my CS knowledge since it seems quite redundant for pursuing a career in Taxation Laws (mainly IDT advisory). I do see a future where I turn towards in-house and I believe a CS degree would aid that to an extent.
Thank you!
I am looking for a female. There is no rent and the tentative move in date would be as early as possible. 💓
but still i am not able to join and there has been so much heat and sorrow regarding this in my family...
I am from a lower middle class family and we simply cant afford that much fees.
and all that student loan and scholarship is just trash,
because the nominee(my father) has to pay firstly to the college every year, and then the bank will give all the amount to the child's account...
but first of all where will my papa bring that much enormous fee from???
All my dreams of joining BITS got ruined and all that hardwork i did for this BITSAT exam went for waste...
They should reduce the fees.. I dont think any good talent can join this college with this much fees.
I am going with DTU Electronics instead (I like electronics thats why left CSE).
BITS lost all its respect now unfortunately, in my eyes..
I will always have to see it as "the place that mocked me for my FAMILY INCOME"
same as above. Have no contacts, sent mails almost a month ago, got no responses. All the associates and the 4/5 yr students, please help a fellow 3rd year out:')
Any reasonable person will go to Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi max.
She's a legend
She's the moment
Now having said that, I agree with the qualities mentioned hereinabove about the current CJI, which I am sure makes him a worthy candidate for the coveted post of President.
I only hope and wish, human being of great qualities occupy this coveted post, irrespective of their educational qualification, caste and gender.
But does a SCAM brand exist and are SCAM lawyers sought after or preferred for hiring in other proper tier 1 firms?
Insulting any Holy book in any manner should not be accepted in a secular society.
For all the ppl against this censorship should decide whether they are personally ok with the Holy book of Hindus being disrespected. And if they are fine with such a vile act, then it’s best for them to leave the comfort of their homes on their own accord - our Bharat doesn’t need not does it want them.
PS - kam bola hain, parantu zyada samajh na!
This is genuinely the question that every NLU student (who is not the offspring of a judge/senior advocate/law firm partner/parliamentarian/CA) should ponder upon.
Senior partner is the designation for equity partners. 'Partner' is a salaried partner.
Here’s a news flash from an alum at law school- getting in is only half the battle. If you don’t put in the work- you won’t have much of a career. Become an influencer if you don’t want to study lol.
Also - man nalsar needs to self reflect if they’re getting preferred because of this perception of lack of academic rigor.
Off late I've been thinking about setting up a second life almost that's a lot more fulfilling and actually meets the aspirations I had as a college student and an early practitioner. This involves primarily studying humanities and maybe some teaching. It's not practical or pragmatic given that I'm married and have an actual life of responsibilities. I'm just putting this out there to see if there are others in the same boat/cliff/precipice whatever have you.
I know there'll be some who say "corp lawyer slave blah blah" "corp lawyer sad money wipe tears blah blah". Please fight the instinct to say that, the post is about mid-career thoughts and how to deal with divergent aspirations while being a stable adult.
Have heard that one retired Judge (Maybe NN Mathur) is applying and Faizan Mustafa had already rejected the idea of coming to NLUJ in February itself.
As on the figures of placement where Jindal places almost 150 students every year so do other NLUs. NLUs manage to get placements for most of their batch because it’s easier to place a batch when you only have 100-150 students in total. A university can place people not create more jobs in a sector which is why Jindal manages to do great in its placements even in comparison to NLUs. Also students are great and there is a lot of competition within university to get opportunities unlike NLUs where one can easily get into societies because of low batch size.
Not against NLUs but the fact that according to our population NLUs don’t have enough seats and great talent misses out to get into an NLU which than goes to Jindal. Also Jindal is way better and a preference for everyone who gets an NLU below tier 1. Jindal is definitely a better option in terms of everything but many people can’t afford it and hence discard it to be a university of rich just because they’re jealous.

And this person is clearly isn’t from nls
And what your comment implicitly shades over is the kind of atrocities that the West committed to aggrandise and enrich their institutions - nearly 20 trillion dollars worth of resources were drained from India alone by the British over 2 centuries, and yet Indian talent still rush to these economies given an opportunity since they regard the status and quality of life that comes from Western association to be better for them. There's some truth in that, but let's face it we still have a massive colonial hangover. You look at how the Japanese have a built a self-sufficient economy that improves the quality of life for their citizens without a massive brain-drain, and it shows that it can be done. In modern times, places like South Korea and now even China are doing that. And it's not the ranking or comparisons with Harvard or Oxford that matter but whether these law schools and their graduates are able to affect people on the ground in their own country. Unfortunately, the ingrained inferiority complex of most Indians combined with the lack of opportunities here, means we will always look to the West for validation.
And regardless, with 300 students a batch, NLS is finished in its old avatar. I hear some folks comparing it to Harvard which apparently has a high student intake too, but make no mistake, NLS is no Indian Harvard. Pretty sure one research centre at Harvard gets more funding than the entire of NLS. And SK and his gang are the definition of what Macaulay had in mind when he said we want “Indians in blood, colour and looks, but British is tastes, preferences and values”.
First frehsers , it's more like you are on ur own kind of stuff. Only two PPL i know got decent job through job hunting, rest had to fend for themselves, that too settling for lower-paying Jobs
I'm asking this for two reasons -
1. Mumbai has more commerical and corporate Avenues as compared to Delhi , more work and exposure.
2. Better professional culture, delhi is all about show- offs and half-minded South Delhi girls bragging about their family practice.
Considering that mumbai law firms usually look for grads from clgs like glc, nmims and ILS , how does one get laterally hired there and how easy/hard is it? How much pqe is required to enter into boutique/tier -2 /3 firms and how should one go about it ??

I am a looking for a female flatmate for a fully furnished 2bhk apartment near Prabhadevi. Rent is 65000 for the entire flat and the tentative move in date would be from October 2023.
How would a law student from a non-metro city be able to compete with their counterparts in such a scenario? Have such students taken a wrong decision to pursue law and invest in INR10+ lakhs in a profession which will take a very long time to give reasonable returns?
Doesn't this reflect an emerging polarising situation? Law is still not a big industry like IT. But its uneven expansion seems to be spreading very fast. This is worsened by the fact that Delhi continue to be primary seat for litigation. Supreme Court does not seem to part away with its powers and establish circuit benches. Except 3-4 High Courts, all are very feeble and their judgments/orders itself are looked down in the top court.
How should such students survive if they don't want to migrate to such cities and still have decent career in law. Do they have any option?

"It is no secret. There are some woke cancel culture people in some top law colleges who hate me, launches social media tirades, and spread slander about our courses on social media anonymously without any evidence. ...Why? Why take so much trouble? It is because LawSikho has increased competition for them on every sphere....Now this makes a lot of people whose entire sense of superiority is built around the fact that they went to a certain school by cracking a certain exam damn uncomfortable. I am claiming that anyone can beat them without that pedigree! How can I do this?"

They have a designation called ‘senior partner’. What is the criteria for that?
