There is no strict division of interns between the B&F team and the GC team. There is a common pool of interns.

Although the work culture is very chill, with fixed working hours and the quality of work is also good, the associates explain the tasks very patiently and spends time to teach you but the hiring process at vritti is very different. They don't hire students who are still in college. You need to graduate and then work as a paralegal for months to finally and hopefully get hired. The ideal time period for the B&F team is somewhere between 4-5 months and for the GC team it's 9-12 months, then one becomes a junior associate and then an associate. It is very time consuming process.

Now that Day-Z for BO27 is over and the focus of the recruiters shifts to the next batch in line (granted that some hiring would continue for 2027 Batch until their graduation in summer), what is the general idea on the hiring scenario for BO28?

1. Do we expect a hiring trend similar to BO27? Or is it slightly worse?

2. How is the call-back scenes like across firms ? I know they can be very cagey but did your teams talk about vacancies or hiring?

As an ex-employee of ELP, and having worked across three law firms, I can genuinely say ELP was the best place I've worked.

Many of my personal milestones also coincided with my time at the firm, which makes it even more special. It was easily the least toxic workplace I experienced, with minimal politics and a culture that genuinely let people focus on doing good work.

Always grateful for that phase.

It was a genuinely thoughtful gesture by ELP to recognise all 1,200 lawyers who have been part of its journey. I was glad to see my name on that list.

I've read a lot of negative comments, but my experience was different. ELP has been home to some of the finest legal minds in the country. Very few firms in country can say they have produced three Senior Advocates and two judges from their ranks.

It was a firm built on talent, hard work and merit, not family legacy or internal politics. That its journey had to end this way is deeply sad.

Would not name them, but just remember one thing: any regional law firm that is well-known in the region where you are practising, or any firm which has been ranked regionally on platforms like Legal 500 or Chambers and Partners regionally, has only one managing partner, and does not provide equity to its partners should be approached with caution.

Some may argue that these firms cannot provide equity because of their small scale, which I agree with to some extent. However, the above factor is the major one. Also, whenever you apply to such a firm, do check the managing partner’s history and whether the firm has actually grown, not just in terms of the amount of work it does, but also in terms of expansion of teams and how long it took to achieve that growth.

While I know we call a few family-run Tier 1 law firms “lala” firms, those are far better in terms of providing other things, even if they do not provide WLB (as most people say). The real “lala” firms are these kinds of firms, majorly run by one family, with little to no meaningful expansion over time.

Let’s be honest that the partners in Ravi’s team have been at the centre of the ▮▮▮ That kind of behaviour does not just spoil team culture, it corrodes it from the inside out. People stopped trusting the system because the system was never neutral to begin with.

And now, watching them scramble to manage the narrative around this exit is almost predictable. They ars not defending the team; they are defending themselves. They know exactly how much of the negativity stems from their own conduct, the bullying disguised as high standards, the emotional volatility, the selective mentoring, the way they created an atmosphere where people were constantly second‑guessing themselves.The truth is simple, this exit did not expose anything new. I’ve been practising litigation for a year, but I urgently need to move on from my current chamber. Since dispute resolution hiring is virtually non-existent right now across firms, I’m looking to pivot to Corporate or Banking & Finance teams.

My main concern is that while I have a strong grasp of the relevant laws (Companies Act, IBC, RBI regulations, and contracts), I’ve never done corporate or banking internships before, so I lack hands-on deal and due diligence experience. However, I need to secure a new role before leaving my current position.

Would Partners entertain a lateral entry from a 1-year litigator for these teams? How can I best position my litigation background as an asset, and what practical transactional skills should I quickly pick up to prove I can handle the work? Any reality checks or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The Courts of the Living Competition is a youth-facing legal platform for students across Indian law schools. It begins with a simple concern: law shapes our relationship with the living world, yet more-than-human life rarely enters legal decision-making on its own terms. The competition asks students to work with live ecological conflicts around them and bring legal reasoning into much closer conversation with ecological reality.

Teams begin by identifying a conflict of coexistence near their own law school. Around 50 teams then move into a place-based field dossier process. The first edition eventually culminates in Kolkata, with its larger problem rooted in the Sundarbans.

There is also a fairly substantial award structure. The winning team receives ₹1,00,000, while the runner-up receives ₹50,000. Selected teams can receive up to ₹30,000 through Living Practice Awards to take their field insights into place-based action. Campus Commons Awards, also up to ₹30,000, support student-led initiatives within law schools. Selected students can additionally become Courts of the Living Emerging Practitioners, with six months of mentorship and curated introductions through the wider network.

There is no application fee. Teams consist of three students from the same law school, and applications close on 22 September 2026.

This is the problem when people insist on pure merit-based admissions. The same thing will happen if you abolish reservations in India. There are structural and cultural problems that prevent blacks in the US and SC/STs in India from attaining high scores in entrance examinations. You simply cannot have exam scores as the criteria.

I think your point was partly about the NLUs suffering because of diminished access to decision makers. This is already visible I guess, with big bucks being funnelled to forensic science univs in Gujarat and excessive numbers of new NLUs being opened, while the existing ones struggle for basic funding and have jacked up their fees (looking at you NLS- crumbling hostels, high fees, not able to support/reimburse students going for competitions, general hand to mouth existence). This is a very valid point. Wish the alumni (whether from khandaani families or not) could be more active on this front.

Wadia is undoubtedly the go-to firm for Real Estate. Lets be honest CAM is NOT known for real estate and honestly, some partners are a bit ... lets leave it at that. If you are targeting a tier 1, please look into SAM real estate - BV (partner, ex kanga) is excellent. DSK also has really good matters, good people and overall a decent work culture when it comes to real estate. Wadia/DSK is however definitely better in terms of learning and growth.

I would 100% suggest Wadia / DSK / Kanga / SAM for real estate. KCO also has a decent real estate team but please bear in mind that there is pay parity when it comes to real estate in tier 1 firms. The toxicity depends on partners/team but I would definitely suggest to not end up in a firm where real estate is ancillary. Go to firms where it is the breadwinner - you would also be paid on par/equal.

The real issue is how CAM and Cyril in particular, have handled this transition. A genuinely graceful exit requires leadership that is steady, transparent, and secure enough not to overreact. What we have seen instead is a pattern of shifting timelines, mixed messaging, and an oddly territorial approach that has only inflamed the situation. For all their shortcomings, the team has been trying to move on. When leadership keeps changing the goalposts, even a well‑intentioned team (not just this team) ends up looking chaotic.

Cyril’s insistence on holding them back until November feels less like discipline and more like an attempt to reassert control after losing grip on the narrative. It is hard to call that graceful leadership. It comes across as reactive and unnecessarily heavy‑handed especially given this team modest commercial relevance So yes, the team could have handled aspects of this better, but CAM’s approach has amplified the negativity far more than the team’s behaviour. A smoother, more mature exit would have been entirely possible had the leadership chosen clarity over control.

all it needs is MM to rise and ask for them (foreign LLB holders) to do the bridge course and pass that notorius equivalence exam (less than 10% pass rate in the last 10 years cumulative)

most of the foreign LLB holders practicing are doing so illegally (go to del HC and you will find many who have done their LLB from LSE and other ex uni of london colleges, when I ask them have you done the BCI mandated equivalence exam they smile and never answer)

so, no - foreign LLB holders will not threaten anyone in India as most of them are illegally practicing in India and as they say people living in glass house etc.. etc..

it does not matter how many corporate internships you have - they take people with lesser corporate experience or prefer you if you have interned with them. Not sure what the logic is with the former, maybe because they can be trained in their way. But if they want to proceed with those who have interned with them, i am not sure why they go through these long processes to waste everyone's time

Though I’m against nepotism, one of the unfortunate downsides of the massification of NLUs has been cultural regression. Influx of folks who read Chetan Bhagat, or listen to cringe Bollywood songs. As a Westernised, upper class aesthete, it’s becoming tough to find like-minded people.

I appreciate the desire to close the discussion, but ‘letting them leave in peace’ does not address the underlying problem. The negativity didn’t appear out of thin air. it was a direct consequence of how the team conducted itself, both in its day‑to‑day ▮▮▮ and in the manner it handled its exit. ▮▮▮ and then chooses to leave in a way that generates noise, confusion, and self‑serving narratives, it becomes necessary to examine the behaviour rather than simply draw a curtain over it. Err...no. As someone from NUJS, I can tell you that the academic standards of this place don't exist any more. Students barely know anything in any subject. It's been ages since we have won any international moot, it's been over 5 year since a Rhodes scholarship has been won, the number of foreign firm offers has dwindled, so has UPSC performance. Rampant instances of cheating in exams and AI use for projects. Brain farts from admin, multiple cases of POSH, random decisions from incompetent Deans, absentee VC and ineffective SJA, these are the hallmarks of NUJS now.

Guys, anyone having any idea if the links India Internship even happening? It has been unusually late - considering the scheme dates are nov-dec.. are they having some internal issues? Irrespective their website shows it as an active programme + does not make sense to scrap it post inviting applications. Tried contacting Samantha Lee, the HR, but no response.

Lol, you think preferential hiring didn't happen at NLSIU during Sudhir? Goes to show how oblivious about reality you are. It's not about preference. Almost everyone prefers to work with people whom they have known before. The point is how good you yourself are, so that you would also know good people. Sudhir knows such people, so his hires, even if favoured by him, still add value to the institution.

Hi. I am not OP but I read this whole comment of yours. I am a non NLU peep who would graduate around November this year because of University schedule. What advice do you have for me especially since it doesn't align really well with hiring cycles. I am aiming to get hired early in 2027 but it's also fine if I get hired along with BO 27 of other Law Schools. I am willing to do anything whether it's an internship, assessment internship, paralegalship, long term internship, traineeship whatever it takes. Currently I have interned at T1 firms (including a callback) and T2 firms. And preferably I would like to get a job at any T1 or T2 firms also boutique firms are also fine. Is anyone hiring tho? All my internships were in GC teams and whenever I look for vacancies any fresher vacancy which opens up even in smallest of firms are in Litigation teams.

In January 1929, Jadunath Sinha, a relatively unknown lecturer of philosophy at Meerut College, accused Radhakrishnan of extensive plagiarism. Sinha claimed that Radhakrishnan had plagiarised from the first two parts of his thesis, titled ‘Indian Psychology of Perception, Vol I & Vol II,’ which were submitted to Calcutta University for the Premchand Roychand Studentship in 1922.

The allegations, documented by Utpal Aich, retired Indian diplomat and independent researcher, pertained to Radhakrishnan’s book ‘Indian Philosophy Vol. II,’ published in 1927, which allegedly incorporated stolen paragraphs from Sinha’s thesis. Radhakrishnan had published another book titled The Vedanta according to Sankara and Ramanuja in 1928, which was actually a reprint of Chapters 8 and 9 of his book “Indian Philosophy Vol. II.” That book also had extensive pirated paragraphs from Sinha’s Premchand Roychand Studentship thesis. Luckily for Sinha, he had published extracts from those two parts of his Premchand Roychand Studentship thesis in the Meerut College Magazines of 1924 and 1926.

After writing letters about this matter, which were published in the Modern Review magazine, and defamation from Radhakrishnan, Sinha sued him in the Calcutta high court for infringement of copyrights of his original literary works.

There was a lot of pressure on Sinha to settle the case out of court. All the senior professors who sympathised with Sinha and were convinced of the plagiarismrefused to stand as a witness for him in the court. Sinha also didn’t have the wherewithal to fight a prolonged legal battle .

On the other hand, Radhakrishnan had both financial and social capital to manipulate, manage and obtain the help of his friends, especially that of Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, son of Sir Ashutosh Mukheriee. It was Sir Ashutosh Mukheriee, the then vice chancellor of Calcutta University, who had brought Radhakrishnan from Bangalore to Calcutta University for the prestigious post of King George V Professorship on a salary of Rs 1000 per month. His son, Shyamaprasad, who was also a close friend of Dr. Radhakrishnan, therefore, wanted to hush up the matter.

The only book on Radhakirishnan’s plagiarism, titled A Reported case of Radhakrishnan’s Literary Piracy by Barin De, based on the documents submitted by Sinha in the court, conveniently vanished from the libraries in India, according to Aich.

The plagiarism allegations against Radhakrishnan cast a shadow over his legacy as an educator and philosopher. Such accusations not only question the integrity of a celebrated figure but also challenge the principles of academic honesty and authenticity.

3rd year at another T1 here, and I've travelled to NUJS a couple of times- for moots and fests, and have a good number of acquaintances there.

People use standardised metrics, such as "infra", "placements", etc to weigh NLUs against each other, but these parameters don't give us the complete picture of life at a particular uni, especially NUJS.

Being effectively SJA run means complete freedom to do anything, anywhere- both on and off campus. I've noticed that noojies in particular are extremely passionate about their college, and do anything to defend it tooth and nail. NUJS has a distinct culture born out of a very unique collective experience. As a result, both students and alumni are very tied to this place, and even within law firms, NUJS alum form a clique amongst themselves. Based on the conversations I've had with both alum and students there, I've noticed that not only are they doing very well for themselves (job, intern, moot, publications), but have extremely fulfilling lives outside this. Qualitatively too, NUJS students seem to be much more street smart- they excel when they have to, and party the rest of the time.

In spite of all the problems the uni faces on a day-to-day basis (be it dogshit infra or non-existent admin), NUJS still consistently outperforms every other law-school in moots, ADRs, job opportunities, and even higher-education. People can hate NUJS all they want, but the place has something that no other law school has.

At ELP, SAN's billings went down after he started to focus on management of the firm. Someone had to do it. In the UK and USA, senior partners take turns to manage the law firm - usually the managing partner gets a term of 3 years. It is understood that during that period, the relevant partner's billings will take a hit. However, that partner won't have to pay a price for the same. Being a managing partner is prestigious and the MP is selected through an election in which all equity partners get to vote.
