Anyone who knows your work well, likes you and is even marginally invested in your success is good to write letters for you - in most cases, someone who's taught you in law school, if you have graduated many years ago, a professional, e.g., a law firm partner, a judge whom you worked under etc. You want to ask them at least a month (sometimes two) in advance, so they have enough time to prepare and write it (I asked my professor for a recommendation letter on 15th October for an application due 10th December). Send them copies of your CV/publications so they have insights of you in front of them - they'll likely just know your classroom performance and assessment grades (in the case of law professors). Then you just input their names and contact details into the application portals of the unis you are applying for, they'll get an automated email with a link and they can follow that to upload their writing. NB: You should always include a professional address, not a personal or gmail one (therefore abc@xyzuni.ac.in, rather than abc@gmail.com). The unis can get quite fussy about it and create no end of tamasha about fraud and all.
Kapil Sibal is occupying a Rajya Sabha seat reserved for the Samajwadi Party. The Samajwadi Party is very much a part of the INDI Alliance and is campaigning with Rahul Gandhi. Get your facts straight.

Ask them to bcc those whose CVs are being sent. With strict policies of blacklisting those who may do stupid things like sending personal mails to those HR IDs and abuse this practice.
By electing your friends to the RCC? This is one of the major reasons why NLS is trying to do away with the RCC model and institutionalize it. Favoritism in RCC is a serious issue in all colleges.
You should take the offer if your ultimate goal is to land up in a tier-1 firm. Almost all tier-1s have similar levels of toxicity across different teams, with some teams being more toxic than others. It mostly comes down to individual teams and experiences, so if you like your partner and team, then go for it.
My parents were very nervous whether I would clear 12th class boards in one go. So they were estatic when I got first division (I graduated from school in mid-2000s, not 1960s, FYI).
My folks didn't know that I got through to a reasonably good college (what will now be called a "Tier 1 NLU", ugh!), but they were pleasantly surprised when some people responded positively to this information.
I also got through another (much more) competitive exam / selection process than law after school. But, so much of it is luck, so don't bash yourself too much, nor gloat about any thing.
Those of you whose parents taunt you; speak with your parents and let them know that this isn't productive or healthy (for them to taunt you). Hopefully, your parents will relax in life.
The average IIT package is not 30 LPA. Which world are you living in? Do you even know that except CS and Electrical, students from other branches struggle to get placed? Do you know that in today's time irrespective of your branch you end up mastering Python, C fam langs, UX/UI, etc. if you want half a decent job?
Do you even know one IITian? Talk to one and you'll know the reality.
Mods, could you give one substantial reason why this is marked contested? Or you're just exhibiting your personal bias. Don't indulge in rhetorics here. Is anyone supporting the incumbent govt not entitled to have an opinion on this forum?
Take this from someone who as offered a job in Gujarat. It is a hellhole. No one wants to work there. Non Gujaratis blatantly decline relocation. Unless the Gujaratis stop being elitists and allow nveg and alcohol, no one is going to happily go there. Societies literally kick you out if they find out you have eggs?
It's all a big hoax, the "tiers" are not real. Apart from nlu kids everyone in the industry ranks teams instead of firms. So a m&a team of firm would be tier one while the firm itself is t2, likewise. Example how Anand and remfry are t1 for IP instead of trilegal or SAM.

Socialist you could make an argument for/against, but secular has been pretty solidified regardless of explicit mention in the Preamble ( S.R. Bommai )
You forgot Bidenโs latest: effectively calling Polynesians cannibals by making up a story that his uncle was eaten by people in Papua New Guinea. ๐คฆโโ๏ธBut still not a racist for LIโs liberal gatekeepers. ๐
Very biased moderation. Itโs apparently โcontestedโ to call Marx and Engels racists because they used words like gorilla and the N-word to describe a black man, but all sorts of abuses against Modi are allowed on LI.
I read somewhere an asg pays upwards of 40k but that idiot didn't mention the name. Are gyaan ke pitaare is gyaan ki batti bana ke andar dal le. Nam bata dega to teri rozi roti chali jaygi.
Can someone join Dentons, work there for a year and look for better opportunities? Will the Denton name in the CV help in any way? (if someone is from a basic college)
Jis bhi litigation salary thread pe jao bakwas bolne ke alava kuch nahi hota. As if nobody knows the numbers. Jab saf saf likha hai salary kitni hai to number btao na gyaan uske bad pel do
Correct figures only. I've heard they have variable packages depending upon college also although to be fair no T1 student ever joins it so what varying could it do.
15 lpa toh T1 bhi nahi dete bhai. Stop making the amount look rosy. It's not it. Surely, one can consider it as variable, but they don't pay the whole amount anyway. So 15lpa is not fixed, it includes variable. Even if we were to consider 15 is fixed toh variable mila ke 18-19lpa denge vo?
Dignified clerk hi ho tum corporate walo ๐ corporatelegallyindia hi kardo nam is website ka. Frustrated ho gya hu har litigation job post pe salary per industry standards dekh kar. As far as I know, Sibal is no longer associated with INC. Don't tell that majority of lawyers/individuals do not have certain perspective/outlook/ideology. Individuals who are not vocal about their views are more dangerous then those who are. I am not advocating against reforms; however, the conversation should not be restricted to political affiliation. Instead, learning from previous incidents, there has to be a system of accountibility, checks, and balances, so that the power is not conferred on the single individual and exercise of power for personal gain leads to some sanctions. One individual must not be allowed to send unnecessary, illogical, and senseless messages to judges and other institutions in the name of bar. In other words, strictly acting within the mandate/objective should be a condition precedent to continue to remain as a president/executive of the SCBA.
all indian unis give out equivalent grade number in % if requested
uk unis know this, so if you submit your cgpa they are going to ask for % equivalence and then if you can provide a document from your uni which states that your cgpa is equivalent to 71% (which is distinction grade in the UK) then you can easily get into any top 5 uk unis
Learn how to efficiently use Manupatra and SCC. What works personally for me is I write my research proposition down and then identify the key words which I think would match with the cases present in the database. Re arranging your proposition also helps. Use the Boolean search mode as well.
Have a lot to write on this. Hope my comment gets published before the mods and trolls ruin it.
The industry standard in Litigation is 25k per month. Tier 1s offer much higher amounts ranging from 14 LPA to 18 LPA so unless you get a Tier 1 firm, monetarily, you are screwed. There are some well-known litigation boutiques but they don't offer a generous stipend either, this is again usually just 25k. Tier 2 firm may go up to 50-60k.
Also, the pay is a lot lower in Mumbai than it is in Delhi so going to Mumbai for litigation is always a bad idea because not only are you getting paid less but your also paying more for living.
One piece of advice that I would give is to avoid chambers as much as you can, keep them only as a last resort. A lot of them don't pay and even if they do, it's something around 5k-25k. The good lawyers would stretch it to 30k-40k. Most of the times, they're not looking for juniors, they're just looking for slaves who can inflate their ego. Plus, they have no dedicated HR or Admin so if you try to negotiate with them they get extremely offended.
That being said, not all chambers are bad. Tgere are some seniors who are known for being exceptionally good and many Tier 1 partners who've exited the Firm and started their own chambers can also be a good place to join. From what I've observed, it's usually the shady and obscure ones that have some sinister agenda w.r.t their juniors. If you can't find out much about the lawyer, you're applying to, it's because they don't want the world to know what they're doing so avoid them at all costs, even if the pay seems above average. And NEVER accept a bond period, in fact, get this clarified at the interview stage itself.
All in all, litigation is not a good area to make a "salary" in unless you're in a Tier 1, unfortunately. The goal should be to go independent or switch later to a non-itigation practice area.
Those links seem a little biased. The anti-semitism claim is seemingly more complicated than implied as fact - good summary here, and represents arguments on both sides: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Jewish_Question
It is okay, but if you have a choice between buying an iPad or a laptop I would suggest go for a laptop, the typing experience is much better and in my personal experience heavy duty reading and note taking (opening 15 pdfs + 3 ePubs+ word file and Notion) does not work well on an iPad.
We have Chandrachud (ideologically centrist liberal) till Nov 24. Then Khanna (ideologically centre-right liberal) till May 25. Then Gavai (ideologically left-liberal) till Nov 25. All these CJIs may simply delegate the matter to the senior-most Cal HC judge. That means Dipankar Datta (ideologically centre-right liberal), who will remain a judge till 2030 (and is also the ONLY Cal HC judge now in the SC). However, the CJI also has the discretion not to do so, just as Gogoi delegated the matter to RK Misra. The CJI could even himself take part in the selection.
Thus, out of Chandrachud, Khanna and Gavai, could anyone NOT delegate the matter to Datta? How about Gavai? Could the VC selection then be deferred to May/June 25?
I'm assuming of course that the TMC government will not want Datta to be involved.
Hey, moderators of LI. This post has a 103 dislikes. Your views align with those dislikes and thatโs why itโs marked โcontestedโ. Why donโt you take it down also? The majority clearly doesnโt want it out there and doesnโt think itโs worth contesting on merit.
A willingness to learn and excel in those skills? I know there's no substitute for hands-on training for which internships were required. I took online courses to have an understanding about basics before targeting the area where I wanted to intern under but never got any or atleast in the area where I wanted. Eventually had to settle for areas outside my area of interest and even aptitude. I know I'm not employable with my diverse internship range with most of them online. But then realistically where does one go from here? I don't think interning after graduating is a realistic possibility.. since I have seen on almost every firm's website where they ask you which year you are in etc.. they expect interns to be full time college students.
The hostels there are literally like slums. I would strongly advise you to seek a PG. Saltlake is a residential area with a lot of elderly couples whose children are working abroad in other states. These couples sometimes rent out their homes to students.
Sibal is now an independent, so above doesn't apply to him. Also, it's kinda wrong to bar the candidates with party affiliations but allow those who have sympathies towards a particular party but no formal on paper affiliation. Lastly, need to keep a check on the office bearers pandering to Government of the day or to any particular party. Then the bar would be what it's meant to be.
We may label Kapil Sibal as a liberal, but the truth is that the only cause he cares about is himself. He resigned from the Congress and became an independent MP with Samajwadi Party support.
Yes. This was in my post on the other thread- the AIKHS did the same survey in 2016 and found the same thing. No nonbinary gender souls- castrated men and boys - against their will, through coercion whether its monetary or drugs or prostitution rackets.
"Only 1 percent of eunuchs are born so, while the rest either pretend to be hijras (eunuch) or have been forced to join the community by abduction and castration, reveals a study by the All-India Hijra Kalyan Sabha (AIHKS)."
Rational arguments are wasted on people who have fits of rage when they find things hard to understand. Next time you want to call people names but sound smart, try 'imbecile'. Maybe you'll fool someone.
that'd be Foucault not me, Einstein. I thought we were discussing all Indians burning women until the British came and saved us. Did matrilineal societies do that? How exactly without a husband to burn for>
For peeps at Allen and Overy - it will be more pay but hellish working hours. American firms are worse. Infact I felt US firms are as harsh or worse than most tier 1 shops in India. US firms have very high billing target (even as a fresher associate)
But the good thing is - a massive payhike. US firms pay the highest in the whole world. No European firm comes close to US firms when it comes to pay. US firms also work on the best deals.
But European firms do have far better work life balance. It's not as horrible as US ones. Maybe I am wrong - but a friend in NY told that CAM/AZB and US firms are equally horrible.
There is no Indian tier 1 like yelling or shouting in US firms. But you will pack bags sooner.
But most US deals are done in NY. It has to be seen how this synergy will workout.
Hijra is a complicated category with a history that relegated the community to the margins. Even if you are right about the castration under duress (some people choose to be castrated because they want a different body), how does that have any bearing on the people who make choices about gender?
According to this logic, if many women are sexually assaulted, we should assume that no woman can consent to sex.
The philosophy isn't about the statistics of who is castrated. It is about the people who are not. The 10% in your empirically grounded literally science survey. I have no problem with what it says. It looks like maybe you don't understand it.
Sharam karlo thoda bhailog yahi sam cam tier 1 2 boutique din bhar rote rahoge par litigation ke bare me kisi ko pata hi nahi hai. Intern tak firm ke bare me likh ke chale jate hai or litigation me sala kisi ko kuch nai pata
Well, a friend of mine said that AMS was jain monk in his previous birth, and he can pick out certain hints of that. No wonder why he is so materially successful. However, I don't intend to discredit the guy in any manner.
I have gotten an PPO from AZB. It is the only tier-one firm which gave me an offer, I might sit for Day - 0 but due to my low rank I am sure I won't be shortlisted. I am a little conflicted because of the negativity around AZB. Should I take it up? or should I wait for smaller firms (Tier 2 / Pseudo Tier 1s) or try for Big4/In House roles? (I am not from any NLU but a decent well known uni)
Bhai Jake Pogo Deko, School Life Enjoy kro, Ye kya Law firm aur corporate lawyer leke baith gye abi! Milega Tuje v Mauka, Sabki bare aaege, till then Parle-G khao aur So jao
Hi everyone, I have a scheduled interview this week at Anoma legal, if you'll can give an insight how is the work culture at the firm? What are the expected working hours and also what is their pay scale for associates PQE 3 years
Basically the title. How can I and other members of the RCC can keep a check on the activities of those who have been chosen by the class to facilitate internships? I suspect some of them are favouring their friends and sending their CVs when asked for by the firms. There is absolutely no way of knowing if all CVs are being sent. How does one ensure accountability from these 'elected' representatives? Any insights on this would be deeply appreciated.
Hello everyone, I have a scheduled Interview at Anoma Legal (Mumbai) this week, It will be really helpful if you'll can put some light on how the interview rounds work here? What are the expected working hours at the firm? Also how is the work culture of the firm and lastly their pay scale for an associate PQE 3 years
Why do you think the law schools have LLB degree programmes in collaboration with foreign strategic partners that allow their students to dual qualify? Simple: by definition, an "international law firm" would need lawyers who are familiar with the laws of multiple jurisdictions. Otherwise, why would they recruit Indian nationals with Indian law degrees at all? People do such things because the employers like it. Before attacking a theory, please think if you have any substance or just empty rhetoric.
The quality of the response depends on the quality of the platform. For this platform and clowns here, this is appropriate. Were you expecting a proper response on this platform?
While I agree with your opinion on what the firms have done, this is an unnecessary put-down of the one who asked the question. There is no word to describe it other than bullying. Why have you engaged in this behaviour? And mods, have you no idea how to do your jobs? Just because this begins constructively but ends so badly means you can't mark it trollish? Whoever you are who wrote this insulting comment, you know that the only honourable thing to do is to unreservedly apologize here, publicly, in front of uss all, immediately.
I am a young A0 at boutique law and i have been tasked with reviewing and drafting of various NDA, MSA , SHAs and other agreements.
Please suggest how I should learn to draft the Agreement. What all things should i keep in mind while reviewing or drafting the agreement?
Thank you

STEM should be valued like that only.
STEM can do any non STEM work very smoothly including law (JSD)
Non STEM would not even be able to carry out non STEM work without hand holding.

Regarding sexism, that's not backed up by either source, and case could be made he was not modern-day progressive: https://www.marxists.org/history/erol/ca.collapse/feminist-questions.htm
Similar regarding racism, there are strong rebuttals online: https://jacobin.com/2022/05/marx-race-antisemitism-history-andrew-sullivan-enlightenment

Are Disputes lawyers also paid 75 k per month in both delhi and Mumbai?

The remaining factors are important but not necessarily considered when we label a firm as a T1 or a T2 or something.
To be clear- no uterus- no shedding of uterine lining- no bleeding- no weakening of body- no periods. Women are real.
