The fact that it is so easy to come up with these round-about phrases should be indication enough of what the environment is like.

I don't think you're going to find any particular chamber which is in all respects perfect. Even if you find such a chamber, odds are that they're likely not going to have a vacancy, or that all their slots are filled through referrals.

It's also possible that if you find a chamber whose principal is doing really well, it's likely that that person is on the road to becoming a counsel. As a result they would have stopped dealing with and attracting clients and are focusing more on arguing themselves.

There is no perfect job. I wouldn't put pressure on myself to find the perfect job. I would put pressure on myself to find the job that takes me to the courts that I'm interested in being in.

The general advice during litigation is always to go to an office where there's some state or union panel, because those offices are super busy. You can find out the ins and outs of courts from those offices.

By learning culture i meant where the Partner isn't a deadbeat who actually likes to involve junior associates in work and gets involved himself. I don't really care about the volume or logistics of the work but the two firms i've worked at, the initial partner hated giving any real work to freshers and the second firm's partner showed up to the firm one a week for 4 hours and did everything online. It' a sad state and i'd really like to get in anywhere where there's a ton of work.

Hello guys, umm, I made a post about this, but apparently I can't find it, so posting this again: I am a third-year non-NLU student I have a GPA of 7.0+ currenlty and one publication and no moot. I am trying to improve my grades this sem so far I think it is working but will have to wait till final exams. I want to do moot but can't do it bcuz can't get into my college's moot society. I want to understand how I can improve my current problem and better my self for placements etc + I even want to study abroad. Any tips will be helpful + research tips will also be helpful. If seniors you have been in this position what helped you pls tell me

I have heard from a friend who interned there that they just do every kind of work to keep billing. They don’t have a big name in the market and they are fine doing anything as long as they get work. Most of it is employment rest is backend Amazon work. So even if they doing 1 2 matters of some kind of work, they just add that practice area to their profile. A bit wired. Don’t think this is normal practice. Some person confirm.

Unfortunately 2 jobs in 2 calendar years is not something that would be appealing for a potential employer especially for someone who is starting out in their career. Your next job is critical since you would not want to have 3 jobs in 3 years on your CV. It is important to stick it out at a firm and learn as much as you can before leaving. There are no firms with a learning culture. This profession is based on apprenticeship so you will learn by doing / observing your seniors and colleagues. That is however contingent on absorbing everything around you like a sponge. Wish you all the best and hope you land the job you are looking for!

The comment above rightly asks what your goal is. If getting into a prestigious UK university is your goal, and you can afford it yourself without any inconvenience- that is, you have around 60 lakhs lying around as pocket change- then sure, go for it. Cambridge is more likely to take you than Oxford, but apply everywhere, including others in the Russell Group.

If your goal is to get a job in the UK through an LLM, please consider it a pipe dream. I say this having done my LLM at Oxbridge and having seen people in the recent past who wanted to immigrate struggle to get legal jobs. That being said, there are people who succeed, but more people fail than succeed.

If you want to get into academia, sure, an LLM is a prerequisite, but again, you likely won't recoup the money you spend on an LLM in academia.

So the bottom line is, unless you have the money lying around, an LLM does not make sense. A job is uncertain, and academia will certainly not allow you to recoup your investment. Unfortunate, but true.

I mean, you can always take a gap year and prepare properly for CLAT. If you got into JGLS this year, you are more likely than not going to be able to do it next year as well.

Please ignore others who may say it is not worth wasting one year. Do not look at it as a waste, but rather as an investment, where you could save over 40 lakhs in the next five years (if you crack one of the top NLUs) and end up similarly placed (if not marginally better placed depending on the NLU you get into). If you do not get into any NLU, you will know you tried, and JGLS will always be an option.

There is also an alternative option. Do a three-year bachelor's course somewhere in Bangalore while simultaneously preparing for CLAT this year. CLAT is not very demanding, and I believe you should be able to balance it. If you do not get into a top NLU next year (and JGLS will still be as expensive as ever), finish the three-year course and try again for the three-year LLB, which both NLSIU and Jindal offer. The three-year LLB is a very decent option, especially with the right bachelor's degree. It will also be slightly cheaper than the five-year LLB at Jindal. I personally think this is the best way forward.

I give this advice as someone situated in academia, so I am well-versed in giving free (and solid, I think) advice to every prospective law graduate and their parents who happen to think of their friendly neighbourhood law professor when their child starts struggling in science.

And YET, firms, even the smallest ones, the ones whose most prestigious client is someone’s uncle, route you through RCC and refuse to look at your CVs independently. THAT'S YOUR HR'S WHOLE JOB???

RCC has its own timeline, and yes, with my rank it will probably sort itself out inshallah. But how the fuck has RCC, somewhere along the way, become a way for refusing a good CV (apologising in advance for sounding entitled but I have seen the CVs of people who work in those firms)? The point of applying in a free break is that it’s a free break.

Just wrapped up my internship sometime ago, and the place is dope tbh. I was the only intern during my month, so you may say workload is a bit on higher side, but not that much, its manageable. Team is incredibly welcoming and helpful, will explain assignments and what to do if you don't understand. The team sits together for lunch, so its kinda homely vibe. Its antitrust-maxxing (which is obvious), so be very well read on nearly everything in competition law. I wouldn't recommend someone under 4th year to do this, unless they have an exceptional grasp on competition law, since they expect deliverables, and sometimes, deadlines become tight. They arent all up for coming to the office, and only then can you work. If you wanna WFH and get the job done, it's more than enough. They also have 2 knowledge management sessions each week (not sure if they have this every time or if it was just the month i was in) but there they discuss developments and orders of the week. Overall, if you are an antitrust fan, place is like a heaven. Since thats the only practice area, if you are not interested, look elsewhere, let this be for those who actually want it. And i applied my mailing them, and had an interview and all.

Working at a CAM serves capital's clients and it means being part of the machinery that protects property relations and capital accumulation so you're professionally helping capital move and grow.

I recently received my jgls confirmation mail for the 5 year course, my family would barely be able to afford the exorbitant fees, we would surely be treading on thin ice. I stopped preparing for clat mid way through the year because of the rigid and horrendous regulations my cram school has put in place. I took a huge risk and prepped for the LNAT and was able to safely clear the cut off. I am from Bangalore so, moving to Sonipat and settling in would be a difficult task. I am also sceptical about being able to socialize with such a posh crowd because I come from relatively modest means, I fear that I would face social isolation and inadvertently ruin my mental health. Going to JGLS is the only exciting prospect which I could avail as of now because I have big ambitions and an even greater work ethic, clat is surely out of reach now. Would going to jindal be a wise decision? Is there anything that I have to kep in mind? Please share your wisdom. Your insight would mean a great deal to me.
