We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

In most people's opinion, Mumbai is a balance of everything and weighs much higher for safety (women and general). Of course, some people value certain things over others and choose other cities, and that is perfectly fine. Having a hate b*ner for a city that is the financial lifeline of India does no one any good. All said and done we are long ways from even standing on the same pedestal as Chinese T1 cities for.... anything except individual freedoms. I personally love Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai and have a grudging respect for Chandigarh, even though it feels souless (my own opinion, feel free to scoff). If you can't tell, I place planned cities on a pedestal.
If you're getting into the profession, please never make such connections again. We can be sad that aesthetically, a lesser known Chinese city looks much better than one of our top metros, but we have to also make sure that we compare apples to apples. If I had to critique myself, it would be that I need to draft stuff better; we all have stuff we need to get better at.
The only solution is to listen to the tunes of Jai Santoshi Maa and go to peaceful sleep

A bit about myself - I have been working hard studying the law but I lack good amount of internship experience, I have some achievements in speaking activities and have engaged in certain other adr comps and doing more competitions, writing article, at the moment too
I can get an internship at one of these places through contacts ( I am grateful for this and I donโt want to come off as arrogant by trying to be choosy while being undeserving) but I wanted to know peoples opinion on what you all would choose because -
I want to understand where would I be a better fit for working long term as I want to try converting this into a job ( I do my research but peopleโs experiences will be helpful)
Is also wanted to know where I can have more space to learn - while I understand the expectations law firms especially prestigious ones have from an intern, if there are teams or seniors that help out in learning a bit more that others I would want to know about those
so, most likely, if the practice area is completely foreign to you, you'll be AO.
If you're in Cap Marks, you'll realise that a lot of it is template.
If it's a transactions document, start with the Contents, get a macro understanding of what the document contains, and then start reading.
If these are Court pleadings, just start reading like a story book. You'll find facts often repeated. Make a short note for yourself.
I am 2023 batch graduate from a non-NLU college. I have been practising in transactional corporate since over an year now. I have dealt mostly in startup funding and a couple of VC transactions. I have done a lot of gen corp in this time. I am looking to get placed at a decent Tier 1/2 law firm.
Please let me know if you know of any opening or your team is hiring. I have reached a growth block at my current firm.

In comparison, in India, the whole country is migrating to NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru, because they arenโt many opportunities in other cities. So these cities become overpopulated and there is no scope for good infrastructure. Plus there are slum dwellers squatting on hundreds of acres of land, add to that illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants. Total chaos. The cities are also dirty, especially because a lot of the people moving there are uneducated with no knowledge of sanitation and hygiene.
The move would curb migration and โprotect against the acute dangers posed by Islamist terrorism and serious crime,โ said Nancy Faeser, the interior minister.
So India is presumably safe.
I'm also thinking to do so.
I'm ready to work for my senior for another 7-8 years (have been working for 5 years and he is paying me โน4500 p.m.)
If anyone has reccos for a car within 10-12L(on road), with 4/5 safety ratings, please share.
yesterday, I heard that one person who worked in chambers, had taken a 10L loan after graduation to survive his family and himself, he gets multiple death threat call during the days.
senior advocate being leech exploits the people from common background.
while I have seen their accounts book, they paid 50-60K to kids of their circle (those whose daddies are big) while exploited the others
it's city of bonded labour
doctor are monotonous, avoid
you're no fun either.
2 boring people will make this union will be like bland
1. The base salary increase required for a skilled worker visa from Pound 26200 to Pound 38700 and the specific requirement that the salary for a skilled worker must be at least 38700 or 50% of the 'going rate' (whereas before it was 25%) for that occupational code (whichever is higher) (unless the applicant is in a new entry applicant to the market position, or under 26 years of age, in which case the base is, if I remember right, Pound 30000, which is much higher than what many UK companies pay to those in these positions).
2. Tightening restrictions on students (no dependents allowed anymore, except for those in certain categories). I have heard that they are also planning to increase the living costs bar (i.e., how much money students need to be able to show) for visa applications for students studying in London from Pound 1,334 to Pound 1,483 and the bar is increasing for those outside London as well (with the change (if this is true) taking effect next January).
3. Increasing the amount that an immigrant needs to pay for the Immigration Health Surcharge (i.e., the payment required to use the health service) by almost 35%.
For me when I had interned, amazing feedback from both mentor and team, both work-wise and presentation-wise.
But post that, its radio silence.
Don't get your hopes up. (hopefully it isn't grim, as it was for me)

Clear signs of anti-immigrant sentiment. For us ,the important questions to see are:
1. Whether this is restricted to Islamic countries or is expanded to cover India too.
2. Whether the US, UK, Aus etc will follow with struct rules. Settling abroad will become very hard then

You gotta wonder about Mumbai then. Is it worth spending so much money and living there?
So if u r going for the tag, go ahead. But speaking from personal experience, 5yrs >> 3yrs llb goes in market.
What's more, the building materials and plasters are already falling, it has ONLY one entry exist with zero fire extinguishers in it. When it rains heavily you can feel minor electric shock in switches.
Wifi doesn't work here, the locality of the university is such that even data doesn't work
And to make matters worse, you raise one voice against the admin and they'll remove you from hostels or put disciplinary actions against you.

Just one thing: building professional connections (especially for a non-nepo kid) has to be an ongoing process. Keep attending alumni meets of your UK university, various industry events, various social events etc. You will have to hustle a lot.
Coming to KCL specifically, yeah sure itโs good for Corp law, so go ahead if money is no problem. LSE, UCL, Warwickโฆ apply everywhere, yaar.
BIG BIG BIG news for the following reasons:
- The culture of seniority in India has meant that Kapil Sibal has so far monopolised all the time in the SC. Geeta Luthra, although a very respected lawyer, has unfortunately been pushed to the sidelines and just been given a few minutes to speak. Karuna Nundy, who is representing a second set of protesting doctors, hardly got any time at all. Meanwhile, Tushar Mehta was as good as silent. Now someone of equal stature as Sibal, who takes no crap from anyone, just entered the ring! ๐ช๐ช๐ช Literally Peter Pettigrew meets Minerva McGonagall!! ๐ง๐ช
- The protesting doctors were asked to resume work by DYC but havenโt done so. Now if DYC wants to punish them for contempt, he will have to contend with Indira first โฆ and at a time when she has just written an oped in the Indian Express blasting him for meeting Modi. ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐๐๐๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ฟ
https://indianexpress.com/article/opinion/columns/pm-modi-cji-chandrachud-ganesh-puja-9565154/lite/
- The one opposing lawyer who did give it to Sibal was Phiroze Edulji, who pointed out a big flaw in the investigation that even Tushar Mehta had missed. It was partly on the basis of this flaw that two big arrests were made yesterday. Now you will have Indira-Phiroze versus Sibal-Menaka!
- Finally, Indiraโs involvement effectively splits the left. There is clearly a principled left (based in Bengal) that is opposed to Mamata and an opportunistic left (based in Lutyens Delhi) that is working with her. The latter side is fast losing credibility.
No one pays good in tax these days, that practice is almost dead.
Eventually, government will go towards the negotiations mutual ones where department and clients would want to settle the cases.
Lower level litigation would be non-existent
But I wouldn't recommend RAship. It's so exploitative, and often unpaid.
Also we started with law firms and suddenly you had to run to the SC.
