I am considering pursuing an LLM from the United Kingdom, particularly from King's College London, and I would greatly appreciate your input. My main questions are:
1. Is it worth doing an LLM from the UK, especially from King's College London?
2. What are the career prospects like after completing an LLM there? I've heard that the job market in London is quite competitive, so I'd love to hear your experiences or insights on this.
3. Alternatively, is it worth pursuing an LLM at King's and then returning to India for career opportunities?
4. Lastly, can someone provide an estimate of the total cost, including tuition, food, and accommodation, for the LLM program at King's?

2. LLM will do nothing to get you a legal job in the UK, unless you have previous work exp in India or other jurisdictions and you already have secured some kind of work placement thing beforehand, less than 0.5% LLM students get job in the uk legal sector post llm.

4. check out their website for tuition. food and acco will cost £1.2k pm, so about £15k pa (does not include travel etc.)
I would say that my degree helped me a lot early in my career. However, after a certain stage, your degrees don’t matter. What matters is your work ex and your ability to work hard, use your wits, network well etc. So you will see some people with just an LLB from Symbiosis or GLC doing better than even NLU-Ivy League grads.
Today, I am doing well in my career, but my degree doesn’t matter any more, only my experience does. But I’m still glad I went for it and would advise the same to anyone: also look at UCL, LSE, SOAS, QM, Warwick, Edinburgh, Nottingham and Leeds.
However, if you are struggling financially and need a quick ROI, you should probably not go for higher studies. You could also consider an MBA in India with high ROI, if you have an aptitude for maths. Good luck!
they will play to your strengths in corp law
Just one thing: building professional connections (especially for a non-nepo kid) has to be an ongoing process. Keep attending alumni meets of your UK university, various industry events, various social events etc. You will have to hustle a lot.
Coming to KCL specifically, yeah sure it’s good for Corp law, so go ahead if money is no problem. LSE, UCL, Warwick… apply everywhere, yaar.
LLM from US along with NY Bar is some kind of a global passport allowing you access to serious recruiters of foreign law firms in US/London/UAE/HK/Singapore and of in-house MNCs.
Notwithstanding the above, LLM from abroad gives you wider perspective and memories of a lifetime. So, go for it.
