being from an NLU gives you an edge in the competition, for sure. But ppl i’ve spoken to (including coaching centre faculty) tell me that it’s going to be extremely tough if you want to to get an internship opportunity or if you want a job after you’re done with schooling.
Im going to give my 100% ofc, including participating in extra curricular activities. But there’s still this fear in me that spending all the money is not going to end up being worth. we’re not very financially well off either.
Because as an aunty who’s daughter studies in an NLU told me “The top recruiters aren’t even going to look your way”, “You’ve got to beg for jobs” and “Getting a Tier 1 would be like a dream”
maybe she exaggerated that a bit but i still cant help but wonder, is being from a Non-NLU really that unsafe? even if i do give my all, will i be cooked lol?
and please do tell me if i should go for SLSH or SLSN since those are the best options i have in my hands rn. I was aiming for pune but fell extremely sick on the day of SLAT and here i am. drop is not an option either.
how can i compensate for not having the advantages that come with being an NLU student? Will that really be a huge problem?
What do you think about it? Is it better that SLSN or SLSH?
I wish I knew about CLAT back when I was in 12th. My teachers say that the placement cell is trying their best and will improve, but I see nothing getting better.
At least you’ve got one of the Symbiosis campuses if not Pune. I understand that it doesn’t help as much as a NLU tag, but it definitely is a LOT better than where I am.

It is a cutthroat market and yeah you will struggle more than a NLU kid in getting the same opportunities.
That's undeniable, it's same in other fields too. It's not like ppl in tech who are successful are all from IIT but being from a premier government college does give you a headstart/better alumni etc.
Same with law, not all successful lawyers are from NLUs, infact most of the "successful" practicing advocates in the country are not from NLUs at all. Success is a personal thing and you need to define what success is for you? Is it 12lpa or 1cr or 5cr or a decent work life balance?
Bear in mind, in litigation no one cares about your law school.

I'm in a similar boat and while the prospects are bleak ultimately you can work your way into law firms (if that is your goal). Obviously you'll reach A0 a couple of years after graduation and after upskilling, meanwhile a comparable NLU kid would be A0 on graduation.
You need to see your pros and cons and decide. I don't think private colleges are worth it frankly and I'm from one of them. I'd honestly would rather have done a 3 yr LLB from DU compared to a 5 yr course from a private college.
You can compensate for the non NLU tag by making up good work experience, good publications and obviously side courses/degrees like CS which is doable side by side w law school.
If you dont mind me asking, what year are you in?
and this might be a basic question but how do you build connections? Through internships, thats one way for sure. But, do academics and extra curricular activities such as moot courts play a huge HUGE part in landing you internships/jobs in tier 1/2?

It was started by NLU kids pretending they're above everyone and it is being carried by non-nlu kids trying to get the 'victim of system's pathway. Both stupid.
Intern, learn, good grades, figure out an interest area, actually read and update yourself in that area and basics of law. You'll be okay.
From what I've read, making connections really does go a long way! But my question is, how exactly do you do that? or If that can be a major factor in landing you tier 1/2 firm jobs if you're also good with acads and other stuff.
