Bo25, got medical issues so physically couldn't intern much during the fourth year, got a callback from trilegal and cam in the fifth year but it would be post july, when I graduate. Im from a pvt college (Was in sls Pune but had to switch due to financial and other reasons). College will be of no help, I have interned with 3-4 tier 1 firms wrt to my practice area (disputes). What should I do after graduation, is it a possibility that the callbacks could be converted into A0 position or should I just take whatever firm or advocate that would accept me?

this is all my opinion:

Best: Unquestionably H.R Khanna. To take on tyrants even at the risk of harming ones career is sadly not a quality often observed among Indias supreme court judges.

Strong second-place contenders: Chelmeshwar, Hidayathulla, Sathasivam, UU Lalit, RF Nariman, maybe Kurian, maybe Indu Malhotra. Fairly independent minded judges, many of whom demonstrated deep appreciation for the Constitution and for the rule of law generally. No major corruption allegations; they did their work quietly and did their work well.

Worst- I don't know, maybe Ranjan Gogoi, or Dipak Misra, or K. Subba Rao. Maybe K G Ballakrishnan Big corruption allegations make everyone lose faith in the law.

Both best and worst: Krishna Iyer, Bhagwati, the Chandrachuds, Altamas Kabir, Katju.
These I go back and forth on. They're really good on some issues but seem to lose objectivity on others or have unseemly public lives that lead to loss of faith in the objectivity of the judiciary. They are all impactful though. Not forgettable. Law people can discuss their legacies for years and not come to an agreement.

Not sure about the rest of the firm, but I’ll tell you this, was at the Mumbai office of at a Tier 1.5/2 firm (Hint: Name of the firm starts with ▮▮▮ and ends with ▮▮▮), and saw a pretty good looking/ cute associate. He works under one of the ▮▮▮ partners team (▮▮▮/▮▮▮/▮▮▮), and also had a very unique profile from his LinkedIn (dude was selected by one the armed forces- ▮▮▮ or ▮▮▮). Decent guy, to the point and just overall sweet.

Not an answer to your question, but: This is one of the first useful pieces I have seen posted on Legally India. Thanks. I am completely blind, and this sort of thing tends to get very confusing indeed for me, because of the criptic way assistive technology software packages (often called screen readers) often announce/describe these emojis. (And BTW I am Gen Z.) Even the piece isn't perfect, because it doesn't use the exact language which a common screen reader like JAWS or NVDA would use when encountering such a thing, but I can correspond most of the descriptions in my head to what words the piece uses.

So yes, if you do want some sort of an answer, you might send such a message. But if the associate on your team happened to be blind, they might just wonder what the heck you meant!

There are no deserving institutions for the second place award. India is in a situation which can be best described by thinking of the following hypothetical: Oxford (or Cambridge, take your pick) being no. 1, and many other major law schools (Edinborough, King's, LSE, UCL, Queen Mary, SOAS, Warwick) all shutting down. (With NLSIU being the Oxford or Cambridge of the hypothetical, of course.)

Most communist regimes in the world have always been very suppressive of individual rights and liberty. Stalin outlawed homosexuality in erstwhile USSR, which was not repealed until the regime came crashing down. The hero of modern day lefties, Che Guereva, along with his mentor Castro were known to be vocal homophobes and racists. Communist China continues to censor queer media (well, pretty much any media which they do not agree with). Civil rights for gay and trans people have been primarily spearheaded in Western free market capitalist countries by center left to center right political parties (circa 2001, the Netherlands), not by pro-authoritarianism commie whackjobs.

Personally, I strongly support trans rights, but I feel many activists shot their own feet by needlessly pushing on the sports issue-- something that is unfortunately, unjust.

She can be a bit condescending in replies. I posted a status on how the Katy Perry & Co space trip led to unnecessary excessive emissions-- she took it personally and said that women who earned their wealth are allowed to spend it the way they deem fit. Following that, next day in office she sarcastically commented how I too am adding to emissions by driving a non-EV car to office daily.

If corporate placements, then NUJS. Anyone saying otherwise is lying undoubtedly. For academic rigour and good faculty, pick NALSAR. They too got decent placements but not as law firm centric like NUJS. Infrastructure-wise, NLUD hands down, albeit comes with a big caveat in comparison to its competitors-- placements.

There is no definitive way to rank these institutions. Preferences can vary depending on what you are looking for. All of these three institutions have their own set of pros and cons, so choose wisely.

Can people here share the names and email address of some good seniors/mentors in Madhya Pradesh High Court, Principal Seat at Jabalpur. People who are ready to take in freshers (0-2 Year PQE), pay junior (an obvious ask) and most importantly, hold high ethics and eschews compromising on values expected from a good advocate.

1. Backing up counsels ka concept doesn't exist in SC Litigation.

2. Dave, Gopal and Menaka are all in different leagues with different expertise. None of them get briefed in heavy duty commercial matters. Menaka and GSN are not known names for criminal lit.

3. You are naming people who primarily have a SC presence. There is a long way till any case reaches there. To reach SC, matters will either reach via NCLT and NCLAT or Trial Court and High Court.

If I had to guess, in SC, they may engage Salve / Shyam Divan / NKK depending upon the stakes.

Kuch nahi, they were asked to make representations justifying the low attendance (sometimes nil lol). Additionally, the college vide another notice assured the students and agreed to condone the same if if fell under certain exceptions(idk what justifies 0 attendance). But yeah, seems to be a move to just scare the kids.

Let's not underestimate execution skills. That's important as well. Also, this model where a team has 1 rainmaker EP and quite a few executing partners is very, very common. Nothing wrong with it as long as the rainmaker brings in clients and the other partners make sure the clients don't leave.

I am currently interning with a tier 1 law firm and this is my 4th T1 internship. I have been trying very hard to get a PPO but seeing the current market scenario and the insanely high skill required to get a PPO is making me nervous.

In the firm in which I am currently interning, I have been told about a guy who has gotten a PPO from Jindal. Apparently he holds the first PPO offered by my firm in a highly technical practice area. He seems extremely knowledgeable and his LinkedIn shows that he has presented in IIMs and top business schools as well.

But if such people set the benchmark. How is there any chance for normal people like me?

NLSIU hasn't raced ahead anywhere except in the size of their batches. NLUD still remains the only NLU without a domicile quota and a reasonable batch size and is easily ahead of the rest. The recent UPSC, moot and scholarship achievements including finalists at Vis East prove as much.

I think the TMC is at its weakest point. There is public anger over the the teaching jobs scandal, while the violence in Murshidabad could lead to Hindu vote bank consolidation to counter the TMC’s Muslim vote bank consolidation.

But NKC will only take a minute to switch loyalties to the BJP, so don’t hold out hopes for a change!

Every second student? More like EVERY SINGLE student. Just that the degree varies. Type 1 would be depression over acads, placements and relationships. Type 2 would be suicide ideation and self-harm. Type 2 needs to be given top priority, but type 1 is also important because it can lead to type 2 if unaddressed.

Don’t know about Tier comparison, but they are working with, Trilegal, JSA, KCo, AZB, DLL and C&M, HL, A&O, Dantons etc. If LM then, JM, Kotak, Moti, SBI, Nuvama etc. Also pay wise, they start with 18-20 lakhs and give increments of 50% year in year. So if you are 2021 batch you would have got 45 lakhs this year.

UAE is a clear no-no. Maybe after 5-6 PQE at a tier 1 Indian law firm or a tier 2's star/specialized practice area; shifts as a registered foreign lawyer is possible in the Middle East. But there are many complications to begin with and with that said, choose practice areas like Banking Finance/Capital Markets/International Arbitration to move across countries.

Hi guys, I am from the 2026 batch from a T1 NLU and have my PPO interview scheduled for Khaitan & Co (General Corporate - Mumbai Office)

Can someone please guide me on the whole process what to prepare, who takes the interview, how much time does it take them to revert after the interview etc.

This is pretty urgent, considering it is scheduled next week. It would be great if some seniors, and community can help me with the preparation part.
