What does the traineeship entail? Do you do similar work to an associate but just get paid lesser? Also if you have not interned with CAM before and apply of this traineeship does it set you back? Agree with you.NLIU is the best choice, old and reputable institution, and have given great legal luminaries.l and far better than GNLU. GNLU is new on the block and not even comparable. I work as a legal head in a top corporate and we do not prefer GNLU. GNLU has180 student, large batch whereas other NLUs has smaller batches with better attention. NLIU

The number of unsuccessful attempts to do a hitjob on NLSIU is too high. Some of these attempts (like this one) are mildly entertaining, some are pure poison (like the attacks on the current VC) but most are just dreadfully dull. LI, please allow this kind of systematic persecution against other unis, too, not just NLS!

We recently learnt that he has finally submitted his Ph.D. thesis. The internal presentation happened sometime in June 2025, so he should get his degree later this year. While we were sad to see him go, it appears that the move to NLS has been good for him. At NALSAR, he was teaching more than 3-4 other professors combined for several years. Hope to see him writing and publishing more in the coming years.

I hate to be blunt, I thought this of myself, if you are not from a t1 NLU and think of i have 5-6 months of Internships, guess what so do they.

I have now started getting internships at T1's but the fact is my CV when i started applying for t1's thinking oh I should be getting in was not good even though I thought it was.

What are we going to be flaunting? Vac Schemes, TCs, even LLM acceptances have all completely vanished from BO25 onwards. T1 firms don't hire nearly as much as they used to (our favourite Bengali firm for example). Maybe it's the grade scale, maybe it's the COVID batches, but something is wrong.

The correct answer is that every single NLSIU graduates is very successful, even those who entered through reservation and may not have had social capital and contacts. That’s because NLSIU is an exclusive institution that selects a small number of people and gives them high-quality education. It may not be the Harvard of Asia, but it is certainly the Harvard of India.

There's only one option, but it will take time. Take a year off, and prepare for CAT. Study smart, clear the exam and join an IIM. Align your MBA choice with law, so once done and join a company, look for legal related fields. One example is international trade and investment law. Majority of MBAs don't know jack shit about this area. But legal background folks can easily work in this and also get to travel and live abroad.

Is there any chance that you'll get some sort of a life, grow up, and become mature, ever? Fyi, no rando lawyer, no matter the institute, whether an intern or a partner, will be able to afford anything close to Camelias, whether in 10 years or 100. A basic knowledge of economics, the price of these places, and the earning potential of lawyers will tell you that.

Our placement figures are quite solid - more than any other Tier 1 NLU. We don't feel the need to flaunt those. People in the industry, students of NUJS and our peers at other universities are well aware of the numbers, but because you asked - it was 90+ for Bo'25 with around 40 PPOs (the best figures for any NLU).

Because all along they were targeting poor, working class people like taxi drivers and Bhelpuri vendors. And mostly Biharis. So we didn't care. Now they are targeting elite corporate people from all communities. What next? The offices of CAM and AZB being stoned and associates being beaten up?

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has issued a strongly worded wake-up call to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), even as an Indian delegation made a formal pitch to host the 2036 Olympics.

Amid longstanding allegations of mismanagement and corruption within India’s sports bodies, the IOC flagged concerns over governance issues in the IOA, the country’s rampant doping problem, and its underwhelming Olympic performance.

This is what SEBI claims JS did, on one of the days when it is alleged that JS manipulated indices:

1. JS builds a long position (via buying in cash/futures market). Now because JS buys so much in big size and within a matter of 20-30 minutes, this pumps up indices (banknifty/nifty).

2. While they're building their long positions, the prices of 'index options' to build a short position becomes dirt cheap since it's an options expiry day (if you don't understand what an expiry is and what options are then go read up on that first else you won't understand anything in the order). SEBI claims that while JS had a long position worth ₹X, JS also built a short position which would be worth 7X. In simple words I am placing 'one' bet that a stock would go from ₹100 to ₹101, but at the same time I am also placing 'seven' bets that it would go from ₹100 to ₹99.

3. JS buys the dirt cheap options and ends up building a short position worth 7X it's long position. Now because JS is building its short positions via options that are expiring on that day itself, the cost for building such a short position is very less compared to any non expiry day.

4. JS unwinds (i.e., dumps) its large AF long positions, again within 20-30 mins, and causes the indices to fall. This fall leads to their dirt cheap options short position becoming extremely profitable because they're 7 times as much short as they were long originally.

I think illustratively, based on what I have understood from the order, this is how the trade went down:

(I) I see on my screen that there are more than 1lac+ orders being placed / have been placed / have been executed etc within the last 20-30 mins for buying stock A. I end up concluding this buying frenzy will continue and so I also join in and end up buying stock A.

(II) On a completely different screen where not a lot of people pay attention, there suddenly are more than 7lac+ orders to sell stock A. On the other hand the original 1lac+ orders through which stock A was bought initially are now also being reversed (i.e., the original buyer is also selling exiting/selling).

(III) I see the price of stock A is now down AF compared to the price from where I entered and I (along with a lot of others) panic and rush to get out by selling it asap.

(IV) The person with 7lac+ sell orders ends up winning big in this selling frenzy.

The above was a very dumbed down explanation and you will not understand it completely unless you first understand how derivatives work in Indian markets.

NLUs are state universities as well. They do not have the privilege that IITs, IIMs or AIIMS have. If you're not interested in corporate, any university is more than enough to make your mark in litigation or Judiciary. But, If you're interested in corporate, focus on an area and intern in related offices. Knowledge triumphs tag. All the best

Someone who has been in IDT for the past 3 years and has been with both the tiered firms (ELP and LKS). Having said this, I'm desperately looking for a way out of tax. The practise is too much of a niche, you are stuck in a loop of these two firms and maybe the actual Tier 1 firms who have barely any practice going on. I would strongly suggest going for a field that does Litigation and/ or M&A because you can switch within these two despite specialisations. Good luck!

why would you re do the BA when you already have an MA? Do an LLB from a reputable place and youll stand a fair shot of getting hired. Honestly law firm wont care that youll be 34. But you will. 34 is a very different place in life with very different priorities. its not the ideal time in life to grind by starting a new job at a law firm. And you will be designated old guy in law school.

Thank you for your response. You make a very fair point. But I've already completed 6 internships under advocates, with 2 of them being with Sr. Advocates. But all of them were engaged with civil disputes only. I just wanted to have some exposure to the practice area of TMT, be it dealing with the specific regulations, rules or the applicable appellate bodies. I have applied to several law firms (not limited to TMT), but given my academic year (I'm in my second year, Bo'29), none of them have replied positively to my applications to them. And that is why I thought that perhaps working with a Sr Advocate who regularly engages in TMT matters would be a solution to this conundrum. In any case I would continue to do the best I can, and make sure my fundamentals remain strong, as you suggested.

My quick 2-cents. May add more as I get time to write in detail.

1. Read. Like, a lot. Read not just what your college is teaching you (which won't be a lot, frankly). Irrespective of what your peers are doing, read. Read the judgments - don't rely just on dukkis and articles. Also read books related to law. Regularly read blogs on areas of law you are interested in (for eg, for Constitutional Law, perhaps indconlawphil; for Corp, indiacorplaw) - more so after your third year or so after you're familiar with the field of law. For now, start reading up on the basics — I remember a thread posted on LI some 2 years ago about what all should a law student read. Start from there, maybe.

2. Intern like crazy. At your internships, focus on two things, over all else — learning & networking. Both of these will take you far.

3. Your network is your net worth. Build it.

People making 2L a day at Saket are not restricted just to Saket - they go to other district courts & HC too. Mostly because they are in demand everywhere.

You may find a better answer to your question if you elaborate on why you're asking this. Looking to join a rainmaker? But why? It's not like the raindrops will trickle down to the juniors & the interns.
