The reason we accuse the TLC types of being voluntarily in a state which can be best described as functionally illiterate is simple and exactly this: they believe they can just talk without having done any of the hard yards, and that everyone will bow to their opinion because of the "LLB" tag going with their names.

If I had been Sudhir, there would have been aspects of the report that made me quite uncomfortable.

1. The call for the ending of the trimester system.

2. The importance they gave to the "perception" that the administrative decision-making at the uni was unaccountable and not very responsive to student concerns.

3. This last one would have made me slightly angry, if I had been him. They criticized the fact that the number of students on non-PhD programmes whose studies are fully funded is very low. What the report does not mention is that the university system that two out of the three authors work in - namely, that of the UK - works precisely like this: undergraduate and postgraduate taught students are largely not funded (or funded only to a limited extent) by their universities (although the UK has a student loans system, similar to the U.S., for domestic students). Despite identifying this as a problem, the SRC did not really propose a solution. What is supposed to be done? Should we set up a student loans infrastructure like what the British or Americans have? In other words, it didn't say how you solve the problem. Of course, that would likely have been because of the SRC's remit or maybe even hesitation on their part to be too prescriptive, but nevertheless, quite discomfort-inducing.

4. I think he didn't really have a problem with the quantity of assessment being done. Fundamentally, that is a very Indian way of thinking. For these guys to do what they did, i.e., to come out and say that the frequency of assessment should be reduced, would have been quite a big thing for Sudhir to take in.

NB: Please do not take this as me personally disagreeing with any of the suggestions in the report. I am just following J.S. Mill's call to be generous to the arguments and points of view of those whose views are different from your own. I very much like what they have said in many respects and think it worth considering. However, I do understand why, having absorbed some of the orthodoxies of Indian academia, he may find some of the recommendations not as much to his liking as others, or, at the very least, something to make his stomach do a few backflips, because, even if he agrees with them in principle, he would need to justify it to people whose way of thinking about universities is very different.

In corporate, 80% boss are toxic in nature. Only way to deal is to listen the screams a few times and big a big blow back when there is crowd. This will ensure that your personality isn't taking beat all the times. Company isn't your wife therefore always look for other opportunities and play around even if it's your fault. Not saying to blame others!

Firstly, it is good that you are in a good nlu and that you are on good terms with everyone. Thats a good place to be in. keep your grades up but I dont think that is the problem here but just wanted to make sure that you know that that's the most imp thing here.

Secondly, I have DEFINITELY been through/going through the same my whole college and career. The feeling of not being able to connect with anyone like you are at a show where you can only spectate but never participate. Been there. I will tell you two things to do -

1. firstly make sure that you are open to connect with people. go out there and join clubs or take part in things you like, make sure to sign up for every fest oc or any oc tbvh. Make sure you are increasing your surface area to the max. THIS is the time where you if your stars are good meet your best friends in college. Do this and try to be open to people. Be the person to make plans and be the person who takes the first initiative.

2. Now if this is not working out there might two things - either firstly, you are fundamentally at odds with people who are in your profession or in your college. That would mean that maybe the type of personality and interest you carry is not suitable for this path. You might want to also meet people from other colleges to make sure its not a college problem. if that still persists - it might be a career misalingment problem and you might want to seek another party/field/interest

or maybe the problem is inside. A long time of therapy has showed me how there is an internal barrier between me making friends and feeling connected. You might also want to go to therapy FOR SURE if it has come to this

Lastly, I know you did not want advice on this and please ignore this if you want. Having a gf back home has never worked out for any of the tens of people tha I know. Not because yall dont love each other but because yall are defo in diff phases of life and in diff env and diff growth speed. I am not telling this to scare you. I am telling you this cus you MUST make sure that you are good without her, that you ahve friends, hobbies, interests, goals and a support system in your college without her.

The simple logical answer lies the economics concept of Game Theory, all of us know that we should collectively bargain for better environment and culture, which would be the co-operative outcome, however the external factor of everyone's lives, financials conditions and reasons for working not being the same results in some people being more scared of losing their jobs than others and hence they would prefer the non-cooperative outcome for working through it while others protest and therefore this does not work out. Classic example being "A class of students being on mass bunks but the toppers and teacher's pets being present in the class" almost the situation here aswell. The only way we can improve the culture is to rise among the ranks despite these difficulties and then change the culture from within but that also has slim chances of happening as most of the people develop the thought process of "Agar humne itni mushkilon mein kaam kiya toh juniors bhi karenge".

Yes you should definitely visit the counsellor. Loss of personality is a earlysign of clinical depression - along with things like spending lots of time staring at the ceiling fan and scrolling mindlessly. It creeps up on you very silently. at least you have noticed it which is good. please get some assistance and in some time you will hopefully be able to revive your personality.

Assuming your college doesn't provide you with internships, there are multiple ways you can go about it.

1. Cold Emailing- This has personally worked for me multiple times. The trick is to know how to draft the mail. It cannot be a cookie cutter mail. It has to be personalised, related to their work and practice area. If not expertise, you have to demonstrate at least an interest - moots in that practice area, publications etc. help.

2. Competitions- There are multiple ADR, paper-writing competitions etc. that land the winners internships at t1 firms.

3. Reference - You might want to ask your previous associates or even the counsel you've worked with, to refer you to firms. Use contacts, if you have any.

Being able to think critically about gender (and other) biases is very important to understand the realistic probability of a judge giving you bail in a given case. if you only learn legal provisions and go to court you will be very disappointed . that critical thinking is what NLUs or any good college are supposed to give you.

According to this article, it’s a very big problem in divorces, but there is no law on it and courts haven’t ruled on it. This case doesn’t really give us chance for a good precedent, because it’s not a divorce case (they were merely living in and not married). Rather, Mohua has filed a case against him alleging that he stole the dog. So it’s a case of theft. A completely unfounded one, of course, because he paid for the dog and the documents are in his name.

In fact, this case may actually set a very bad example, because the dog is being treated like a chattel by Mahua’s complaint. It’s like saying that your ex “stole” your child.

Not the OP. But as someone who grew up in Bengaluru, please allow me to say that this attitude of yours is deeply exclusionary and dangerous. In this highly interconnected world of ours, it is more and more important every day that we can communicate in multiple languages. Being isolated in a bubble of our own making is unhelpful. Therefore, it would be good if someone not local to the city could learn Kannada. However, in a cosmopolitan city like Bengaluru, it is equally important for others to learn other languages.

You might be a "local" of the city, but even though I left the city almost four years ago, and was last back on a visit last September, I can confidently say that you do not represent the city of Bengaluru very well, as the nativist and ethnonationalist attitude you have displayed here is not a picture I recognise when I think of people from Bengaluru.

Counterpoint 1: NLUD does not have any domicile reservation. Even NLSIU did not have, until just a few years back. Then the "genius" idea stuck. If NLSIU wants to come down to the level of other NLUs (all state universities), be my guest.

Counterpoint 2: Whether Bengaluru/Bangalore is irrelevant. The intent is to ensure that the other person understands what we are referring to. How many times have you/we used the actual name "Singapura" - over Singapore?

Counterpoint 3: Delhi (BTW) is the only place where no one feels like an "outsider". The Marathi issue in Mumbai and the Kannada one in Bangalore are getting uglier by the day. I've a keen interest in litigation, which is very rare considering I'm from a Tier 3 NLU and want to practice in Delhi as a first-generation lawyer (I'm not from Delhi).

I'm dumb enough to make the choice, but is there anyone who did the same and survived? I've done almost a dozen internships, the same number of NLU Blog publications, and a fairly good GPA. How do I not become a liability to my parents after graduating? I also work like a lifeless robot during my internships which has helped a lot in my career. (I'm not switching to corp the work seems braindead to me, no offence). I aim to learn and become independent by my late twenties/early thirties while still being able to recognise myself in the mirror and maybe have a wife to look forward to.

Where do I intern? Or should I even intern at new places? I've never had a firm internship (not even disputes). Will be joining my fourth year in May. How do I get myself out of this mess?

If there’s one mainstream law firm that gives the least / not even bare minimum perks, that’d be SAM.

1. No reimbursement for food: Have stayed till 4 in the morning - minted money for them. Least they could do is offer reimbursement.

2. No wfh: Many teams have discontinued one day a week WFH - firm is receding in growth. Walking backwards.

3. No decent coffee machine: We require coffee to stay awake / feel energetic. The coffee machine in okhla office is utterly poor - doesn’t work properly. The other day milk got splashed at me - ruined my suit.

4. Substandard snacks: The evening snacks are ordered from some nearby tapri - liquid dhokla, senseless corns, undercooked samosa, etc. Trilegal offers sushi, kathi roll, etc.

5. Poor infrastructure: Worst thing about office is its infrastructure. The washroom doors have posters of models. It’s a law firm for god’s sake & not some local saloon.

6. Worst working system: The laptops - most crucial technology you spent 10 hours+ time everyday - are the worst in quality (30-40k models). At least one person in every bay faces issues. Citrix on top of that ruins things for everyone.

I am a recent law graduate and currently exploring opportunities to begin my career in a law firm. However, I have been facing challenges in securing a role, either there are no vacancies, I do not receive responses, or positions are filled through internal references.

Point 3 - You have no idea what it is like to feel like you have to learn someone else's language to communicate to them, in your own land. I wouldn't go to Delhi and speak English or any other vernacular language because no one would entertain that (apart from the privileged class who've had the opportunity to go through English medium schooling at well reputed institutions). I would be forced to learn Hindi lest I fail to communicate effectively. If you believe Bengaluru is unsafe, please stay away.

I have to start applying for summer internship for the month of April, 2026. This is my first time applying to law firms through email. I need tips/advice/suggestions/literally anything that can help my chances. A little context: 3rd year B.B.A. LL.B. student, non-NLU. Interested in M&A, PE/VC, Cap. Marks. Also, what sort of writing samples can I submit?

I am an associate at a T1 law firm, I joined my place of work directly after law school and have been at the firm for more than a year. My team is decent, people are supportive, not unnecessarily toxic, and there isn’t much drama or any ego battles as such. I like my work and I would say I am decent at it. However, I have started feeling very put off from my work recently and can’t stand the hours, get headrushes all the time and eyes are always paining and are dry. The hours are very long and there are late nights almost every day (till 2/3 AM or so) - but that seems to be the case throughout law firms. I am not sure why I feel unsure or confused and I think it’s a little too early to feel burnt out. How does one deal with this - there isn’t a passion I have to follow and I don’t have any obvious complaints with my job (maybe aside from the hours). How does one deal with this unsettling feeling?

I was made the most exploitative job offer at a well-known boutique (along with a significantly lesser salary than market standard for the practice area), and haven’t been able to land any other opportunity ever since. If you are looking to pivot from Litigation to Firm, be really sure if that's the long term call since Firms will mark down your experience and will take you at A4 or SA1 (at best), regardless of the 7 years actual PQE.

Also, if you do not have Firm workex at all, regular recruiters and headhunters will not be too helpful. Look to get through referrals.

Hello everyone,

I am seeking guidance on making a transition into corporate law and would be grateful for any insights from this community.

I am a law graduate (B.A. LL.B, Class of 2023) from one of the top 3 NLUs and have spent the last two years in dedicated preparation for the UPSC examinations.

I am now keen to pivot and build a career in a corporate law firm.

My question for those in the industry is: How can I best position my UPSC preparation period in my resume and interviews to demonstrate its value, rather than it being perceived as a simple gap? How else can I cover this gap? Moreover, I am interested in competition or disputes, though I am open to other areas as well. I have heard that the lateral hiring scene is bad and might be very difficult to land a job. Any suggestions in this regard are appreciated.
