Disagree with the alumni network bit. Think it is very subjective. I have personally got internship as well as job due to alumni network, and have ensured that I am able to pass on internships and jobs to my juniors (in both cases people who were in law school at the same time as me as well as before and after my time).

You need to understand that most law firm environments comprise a mix of petty, stressed out and bitter people. Stop expecting help from those quarters. Join a company or a firm and work your way up. Send hundreds of cold emails. Ask for a job, if not that then an assessment internship if not that then an internship. Write articles of the practice area you're interested in and try to get them published. Send them to relevant partners.

Don't depend on your seniors. MS Dhoni had once famously remarked, "Don't look up, God isn't coming to save you". Carry this attitude in your life and you'll go far. Keep your dignity and wits about you. All the best.

The prevalent answer is no. The "general" rule to breaking into a tier 1 is either of the two choices - a personal contact or an NLU degree (or a LLM from outside of this country). However, if you want to hope against hope, the general advice is to be high on optics. Make your work seen. Network like there's no tomorrow. Tier 1's isn't as much about merit as it is about ego politics. (Of course, some sail through you should be able to have) - but nothing that you can't learn on the job itself.
