Regarding Barbie it's so much the wokeism. I just found the plot and dialogues really stupid, unfunny and meant for dumb Gen Z kids . I was even disappointed with the Dua Lipa song. Sounds like a rejected track that didn't make it to Future Nostalgia (which is a great album).
1. Trilegal has already lost quality partners, and is sub par tier 2 in mostly ALL practice areas. There are too many partners who are not "rainmakers", rather hardly any.
2. Firms like S&R/TTA and ICUL are able to A0 that because of highly selective intake without attendance in Day 0s and highly profitable practice area (30% of all funds related work) respectively.
3. The current mild bearish market also doesn't help. Firms and companies around the world, including those like Kirkland Ellis and Milbank, have not hiked NQ (newly qualified) pay as they traditionally would YoY (which is usually massive). Foreign firms have not really entered the Indian market due to the market standstill everywhere. Layoffs are the flavour of the season. M&A, IPOs, funds have truly reached a temporary standstill. The one practice area Trilegal is known for, is all but working.
4. Trilegal is already too oversized with mostly deadweight partners. A firm like SAM and CAM, however toxic and "Lala" do regularly bring in tremendous profits across practice areas, as most practice areas consist of such Partners. Such firms can afford to have such large teams and intakes, which they aren't able to really, and ideally these could ordinarily make such hikes to attract people to the "amarchand" brand. I could include IndusLaw and even AZB in this. Trilegal, really? It did start as a new "startup" firm, but is it really a law firm equivalent of BYJUs (Before 2022) etc.
How does the firm intend to pay that much really? Lets see how this plays out-
1. They stop taking too many interns and lower the stipend- Trilegal for several years has taken interns on merit and offered a uniform stipend of Rs. 16,000 regardless of college (but not for those who got in with references, so this can be written off from costs. They take many (100 I guess) interns.
But lately, as per my friends/ seniors, lately most internship applications are being rejected. Trilegal is totally taking interns via placement cells, which could be a few. This firm is already known to not offer a lot of PPOs anyway. They overhired in 2023 anyway.
Result- Trilegal will solely hire from Day 0s, and will be more selective and take a fewer batch. This would offset the increased A0 pay, considering there is actually a downward trend in revenue.
Thoughts and criticisms will be appreciated. Yes, I don't have friends to enjoy on a weekend, so writing this dumb research.
Regards,
The Cat
However, my take is that it would be better if Government of Maharashtra amend the act and drop "Maharashtra" from the names of all three MNLUs. This will pave a way to independent identity of NLU Mumbai, NLU Nagpur and NLU Aurangabad.
Also why's the internship application portal on JSA's website still closed saying they're full for the summers when it's August already lol
Since we have turned out to be a bunch of slaves to be exploited at the hands of partners in law firms or advocates in law chambers, is anyone of you planning to anytime challenge or stand against the existing system and tell your bosses to be a bit humane. Tell them that you have a life other than this workplace and that you would strictly not want any work apart from 8-9 hours of work that you are doing at the office. That the weekends should be either off completely or a minimal of only 3-4 hours could be devoted on Saturdays. That if the work supply is more and is divisible, keep additional employee(s) and not pile up pressure on the existing associates.
That you partners have no right to abuse your employees who, very likely, have joined your firm/chambers to work leaving their parents and near ones far away in various towns/cities across the country. And that you as partners should be ashamed of not equalizing this profession for individuals from financially middle/lower class strata by not giving them opportunity and enlarging your employee pool despite having heavy workload, and still you choose to come & leave the office space in your Fortuner/Fords/Honda City with your drivers. (There are definitely heavier cars than these, I used the 'basic' models for Partners/Founders for not creating hyperbole).
Speak-up guys. There is a reason people say "Ke jo kuch nahi karta, woh law karta hai". This subjugated attitude of legal professionals is one of the main reasons why law as legal profession is looked down. Certainly there are many more reasons as well. Are you guys willing to challenge this mentality of the masses by giving bespoke reply to the money-sucking, greedy, asshole partners/founders of law firms apparently providing "bespoke services"?
Start switching to jobs first in the legal sector only, where you get humane treatment. The other way is for a good talent to switch careers and leave these shitty places. A mass movement where people will start looking for alternative jobs with their law degree apart from traditional corporate or litigation path, can shaken this exploitative system. But be aware, that you are not becoming slave in those new places themselves! At the end, it's not just legal sector jisme employees se itna kaam karwate hai. But predominantly, law firms in this country are leading the way in showing other sectors how to emaciate the employees and get the deal done in the cheapest cost.
CHALLENGE THE SYSTEM, THE WAY YOU WANT!
BUT DO THIS NOW. OR THE SITUATION WILL KEEP ON WORSENING AND WE'LL LOSE GROUND (Whatever that's left)
P.S. - I am a fresh graduate of law, who has stepped a foot in the market and realized that it is very dirty. I hold those who said nothing in the past, are still not saying anything and the freshers who disregard such culture as responsible for mushrooming of this system. Btw, don't brand as a person ranting here because I couldn't secure a job. I got offers. Rejected them for the above reasons.
That's almost 60 people, all in Tier firms as of now. Mind you, other firms/banks/companies are yet to come.
In a bad market, this is an extremely good number and no other law school apart from maybe NUJS has managed this many placements this year.
Repeating a lie a thousand times won't make it true.
The only reason they had that rank was because of missing an exam in the previous semester due to their medical condition at that time.So it was no surprise that they were shortlisted, considering there's more to a candidate than just their rank.
I know you are just some junior or someone who didn't make it on Day Zero. If only you focussed on yourself as much as you do on others.
As for the Day Zero allegations in another post by you here, the market has been extremely bad. So its not really a GNLU problem exclusively. Our batch still managed to get 30+ PPOs in addition to the 30 odd placements at Day Zero. That's a total of 60+ jobs (and not merely offers), all at Tier 1 firms in addition to the Vac Scheme that was successfully converted into a TC. Day One and Call for Applications from other firms/Banks/Companies are yet to happen.
This easily puts GNLU at the top of the bracket in terms of absolute number of jobs.If any other NLU has managed to have 60+ Tier 1 jobs in this market apart from NUJS, please enlighten me.
As far as CAM is concerned, they are and will continue to be a legacy recruiter for GNLU, thanks to the hardwork of our alumni and students over the years.
In any case, you should stop your naïve attempts to turn this into a scandal. You got your two minutes of LI fame, now give it a rest. College isn't going to last forever bro. Stop caring about all of this and focus on your own stuff.

Also how does one switch firms after getting into one? There seems to be no clarity- Li has mixed answers about legal hr and connections in firms.
- Good apartment in nice locality
- Car with driver
- Eating out at top restaurants at least four times a month
- Good clothes and watches
- 1 foreign holiday a year
- Maintaining wife, girlfriend and child (for some all three 😅)
Trilegal is reacting to a comment made by someone to increase the retainer. can you hear yourself?
If you ever know anyone senior enough in Trilegal, he/she may be able to tell you how decisions are taken at Trilegal. I feel sorry for you.
My interview was scheduled on last thursday. I have not heard anything from them.
After luthra saraf split either don't recruit in bulk as before. Cam sam would recruit as they aren't impacted much. However Cam has seen mass exits but no replacement recruitment. Should not impact freshers. But less seniors = less juniors. Trilegal would be standard. There's a lot of work at trilegal and they had hired in bulk at all levels and all practice areas. They've also increased the pay to appreciate the lawyers. It's a good destination for stability. Other smaller firms will recruit on need basis. This year will be bad. Just pity those who joined bigger firms only to write articles and then get kicked out.
If the variable is included in the retainer the purpose would be defeated. A guaranteed bonus only means getting it if you don't goof up. Unfortunately, your mind is conditioned to think any firm is doing this bcoz there would be something wrong but hold on and think again why partners in top tiers choose Trilegal if the culture was bad?
It's the only law firm that thinks ahead of the curve.
Background: non nlu college with 0 placement support.
Also, is the Fox Corp team hiring? It would be great if that could be an option. Thanks!
We tend to think of people in the boomer age group, like Cyril Shroff or Jyoti Sagar, or Gen X age group, like Ashwath Rau or Akshay Jaitly, as the driving force behind law firms. That’s true, but remember also that Gen Y law grads are now pretty much all partners. Crucially, they usually oversee recruitments, rather than boomers and Gen X partners. Gen Y partners are comparatively younger and more liberal. But age wise they are still in the uncle-aunty age group and most are now parents of young children. They automatically carry some of the inflexibility, conservatism and authoritarianism that comes with age and disciplining kid. What Foucault says in Discipline and Punishment, about how authoritarianism in its various facets can be traced to the parent-child relationship, rings true.
What this means is that the recruitment process is still plagued by some deep-seated prejudices and dogmas, chief among which is that new Gen Z associates must shut up and work 12 hours a day. The thinking is that I worked 12 hours a day at your age and so should you. Wokeness has no place in my firm. Thus, whereas 2 associates should be doing X amount of work for 6 hours a day each, only 1 associate is hired to do 2X work for 12 hours a day. This automatically halves the recruitment numbers and leaves Gen Z short of jobs. At the workplace, Gen Y is exercising a type of bio power (re Foucault) where Gen Z is denied the agency and autonomy for rest and leisure.
What do you guys think?
What are some boutique law firms and/or lower-tiered law firms you would suggest that may be hiring freshers and giving out PPOs? Please suggest, really anxious and stressed right now.
5 AM - wakeup (I follow 4 day Gym schedule, 3 workdays and 1 sunday - on non-gym days, I start at 6-630 typically)
5-515 AM - Make bed, warm water, sit on the sofa, just relax and stretch once water is done
515-535 AM - Guided meditation using one of the apps (I started with youtube, you can try Goodful on Youtube for free).
Till 6: relax and get ready for gym
6-7 AM: Gym in the building, workout for 40 Mins. Catchup with buddies. Will check phone at this point.
7-8 AM: come home, close any urgent items, if none, will take vitamins, catchup on twitter and news.
8-9 AM: Breakfast and ready for work.
Without fail, start work at 9 AM with a to-do list in first 10 mins with order of priority & and probable timesheets in next 10 mins, remember it is fine if the day is not going according to the plan.
12 Noon - get lunch. No matter what.
3-5 PM - Fruits and whatever is available.
9 PM - Log off from work typically and get done with dinner, re-evaluate todo list, catchup with social media & speak to closed ones
10-11 PM - Catchup - on more work, close out TS, watch TV, hangout with friends, as per the demand of life and profession. Try to be on bed by 11:30 max.
This is my ideal day. Often, this is supported by working on Saturdays. Many times, during pressure events and deadlines / commitments to family, friends, etc., this does not get executed time to time. That is fine, as long as I make it on most days.
You have to make a plan and stick to it to make the most in this profession. With discipline - if you are ambitious. That is the only way you will realise your efficiency and talent. At the same time ensure that you create carveouts for friends, family and other closed ones.
Check out Dan Koe planner online and download it.
Take care, don’t stress, if the above doesn’t work nothing will - cheers.
Maybe this is a sourpuss from #▮▮▮
NLUD has had worse placement, worse research output, more expensive fee structure than NUJS
except for better infra, NLUD is worse than NUJS in all other parameters
They barely have time to quit between staying till 1 am, crying, and getting screamed at from their seniors.
If a partners wife is quitting when she's SA and promotable to PA, there's something wrong with the place

It seems like a strategy by many college to increase their publications. No wonder Indian literature cannot be cited anywhere.
P.S. Hold me to my words for this thread. Pls think practically and get your hopes lower for Day-1. The 'worst' is yet to come.

This story has polarised social media, but it's a fact that most people want to leave India. She is being trolled for saying she can see beautiful sunsets in Canada, but it's true: in India the sky is polluted and there are no quiet, clean parks with few people from where you can see beautiful sunsets. Plus, job opportunities are few, corruption is rampant and girls are not safe.
1) There is increasingly no place for merit in shortlisting. Using connections would only ensure that you get shortlisted. Till now connections were used in getting internships but now it has drastically changed to getting shortlisting and even getting a PPO interview.Beleive ke even a rank in Top-15 is not safe as the fears of recession are likely to get worse next yr.
2) Remember Rule 1.
3) Remember both Rule 1 and Rule 2.
Or is it some masterstroke to force Apple, Dell and Samsung to make in India and shift their manufacturing base from China?
The placements at the top 5 always remain the same in terms of percentage of the batch and it will continue to be the same !

A central university, the benefit of studying law in Delhi in a well-established department, with a small batch size and an almost embarrassingly low fee. A solid combination. Isn't it?
The toppers mostly got placed and people with good moot and ADR experience have also got placed
Yes, this year it's gloomy everywhere and hardly any T1 could place 50% of its batch till Day Z
How does hiring happens?
What's the salary?
Work Life balance? Growth etc?
First NLS, then NLUJ, then NLUD, and then NALSAR, and now GNLU. The batch of '24 already facing the worst of the incoming recession, today witnessed the brightest hope, GNLU completing its Day Zero. Only 29 jobs were given as one of the worst nightmares came true. So GNLU managed a good job considering the numbers in NLS and NLUJ were much worse, however the batch size is an issue.

Thoughts?
Payscale would not be the correct term to discuss wages at D&D. Because there are no rules/formula in place to properly determine a compensation structure. In any case the wages are way below the normal industry standards (considering there are no rules, you might get a respectable deal if you have some personal connections or other similar leverage). There's also an annual bonus component but that's always delayed by several months (don't be surprised if you get it in the subsequent cycle). Most possibly, you will leave the firm before getting the bonus.
Also, D&D does not offer any clear career progression roadmap. You will certainly be disappointed if you are expecting promotions as per the industry standards.
Talking about the work culture. D&D follows a work pooling approach. So, you will be reporting to 3-4 partners simultaneously. If that's a turn off for you then don't consider the job.
Coming to the team distinctions, there is a separate disputes team. Corporate team is more like a miscellaneous/sundry jobs team in practice. As a member of corporate team your job shall be to deal with everything under the sun which is not purely disputes (most of the times it will be labour laws, environment laws, regulatory laws, and property laws, along with some transactions and DDs from time to time).
(Survival tip for freshers: You can think of your D&D job as an extended paid internship, which is anyday better than your previous unpaid ones.)
