Bad news obviously. This means that now every single CLAT NLU will have a domicile reservation. Unlucky for kids who weren't brought up in a state with a decent NLU. This is constitutionally violative of our freedom to reside anywhere as well as the real goals of establishing NLUs. In any case, domicile quota is like a backdoor-entry of sorts for people with lesser ranks. It sucks because it's just a cheap populist measure that undermines merit.
Yes some anonymous guy on a shady lawyer niche reddit site has more knowledge of the constitutional validity and need for reservation than government servants and social researchers.
NLUD and NLUJ were the two remaining bastions, they too have fallen - this is what you get when the state government gets to run a national university - RIP
Cheap stunt by the Ashok Gehlot Congress government before Rajasthan elections, because Gehlot knows that he is on the back foot. Doesnโt matter, because he will lose anyway. Apart from the BJP, he also has his own party colleague Sachin Pilot to compete with!
Not from NLU-J but this is really not a big deal. The NRI reservation is gone so this can be very easily accommodated. Any rational person would take domicile over NRI reservation because the latter is highly classist and has no rational nexus to the objective to the NLU system.
No, itโs a big mistake. NRI kids will probably have higher ranks than domicile kids or around the same. But the important thing here is that NRI kids have better social capital, more money, more contacts, better opportunities, etc, which contribute to better scholarships and jobs for the university. Just look at NUJS NRI folks. Large reason why despite domicile, theyโre considered one of the top 4. Domicile kids donโt offer the same benefits.
This is especially noteworthy since NLUJ has been historically one of the few top NLUs not to have domicile seats.
