We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

Launda hu fir bhi.
"My watch is Patek Philippe, so I am better than you".
"You must use Armani perfumes if you work in a Tier 1 firm"
"I have bought a fancy car, so I will date and marry the hottest girl associate"
"I only have coffee at the Taj. I wouldn't even look at a Starbucks".
Anyone who has worked in a law firm will relate to such remarks and show-off culture. But what's incredible is that many of these people are from very simple backgrounds. Prior to joining NLUs, they could barely speak in English. They were educated in govt schools in small towns, rather than elite schools in metro cities. Their parents work as low-ranking managers in government offices and can't even dream of entering the Taj. In fact, some of these "brand bros" are actually from SC/ST/OBC backgrounds and entered NLUs through legitimate reservation (non-creamy lawyer and genuinely poor).
So what accounts for such behaviour? Why do people turn into such douchebags when they join law firms? Is it peer pressure? Shouldn't those from less privileged backgrounds actually have more empathy?
- Free attendance and free grades
- Guards and workers to be subservient
- Breaking the locks and entering the terrace to smoke weed
- No CCTV despite UGC regulations and SC order + recent Jadavpur University incident
- Right to make out in the library: FYI no one objects to you making out, but you don't have the right to do it in the library and it disturbs others; you can book an OYO couples-friendly room instead
Moderator: You can mark this contested all you want, but you know deep inside that it's the truth. 90% of people at NUJS will agree. Just ask them bro.
Ab na jaane koun sa bhoot chadh Gaya hai in logon ko ki they want to see associates in office. A partner has gone on record to say that the firm is facing logistics issues (don't have enough seating space) otherwise there would have been wfo on all five days.
Sab kuchh achchha chal Raha tha. We were more efficient when wfh... had also billed more
Partners and ▮▮▮ have forgotten the realisations which they had during lockdown
▮▮▮
I graduated from RML, you could clear most of the papers if you have solved PYQs.
Now i won't talk about UPSC because comparing a multi-degree university with a law college would be unfair but the results for judicial service exams speak for themselves. There were around 25 people who qualified for it, who i personally know from rmlnlu.
Placement scene is not good but around a dozen got in Tier 1 firms (mostly through PPOs)
and around 25 got in tier 2 firms, regulatory companies etc.
Also i don't get this issue with regular attendance, it would make sense if one was doing master's as a backup and preparing for a govt. exam by side, but 12th pass students should go to classes, it will help them academically, mentally and socially.
I mean you have already paid the fee, if you don't go to classes you're either doing online coaching or just wasting 5 years of your life doing nothing.
All the best NLIU
It is clean and decent
partners leave t1s to join t1s who make them equity partner/ pay them better/ give favourable location. its like a mutual transaction
Moreover, the culture of NUJS to stop anyone voicing a different point of view is worst. A student tried to speak of why the teacher had such views in the first place, he was bashed like anything in the college group. So much so that this junior year student won't even dare to speak against the popular perception ever again. Why do you want to go in hot pants in a professor's room? There were 100s of students being stopped earlier, but this time ▮▮▮ was stopped, that's why all the fiasco. It's the professor and the VC who are tolerating such things to pile up, this behaviour of grow-up students should not be tolerated.
Thank You!
Never in support of such activism
With all due respect to IAS and senior officials, as per me, HC Judge is more powerful and an independent authority, and yes nothing to do with political system of the nation.
Be proactive and contact headhunters.

Jobs nahi hain zyada
Mistake ho gayi ...bade college se padhayi nahi ki...
Ab kuch nai ho sakta ...
Jeevan bojh lagta hai...
Everyday is a struggle..
Earning is very essential in life
These students should be punished heavily with fines.
how is Dr Harpreet Kaur? what should we expect???
P.S. I am speaking from knowledge. My good friend left a tier 3 NLU for AMU for this reason and eventually made it to a government service.
RML is not doing great either. Average.
The constant year-round hiring is a red flag, reflecting excessive work demands. My friend often worked late into the night, sacrificing weekends. Although remote work was once an option, its current status is uncertain.
Furthermore, my friend shared stories of colleagues leaving voluntarily or being terminated shortly after joining. These concerns should give you pause when contemplating a role at this organization.
However, as per Glassdoor they have a great roster of clients and the remuneration is on the higher end.
For the past 2 months NLUJ had both an interim VC and Registrar, let's hope this new VC appointment and the observation by the SC in the contractual faculty case take the university to newer heights.
Who is the new VC going to be Harpreet Kaur, Ved Kumari or someone else.
How much equity do they get in their first year? (generally)
And if giving clat is the primary aim , then any college will do.
Even CNLU is doing better than nusrl nowadays. The new VC doesn’t seem very promising.
I think the top chamber clearly is Venugopals - Chidambaram, Vaudyanatahan, Nariman, Viswanathan, Guru, Parag, Jaideep Gupta, Gsanks himself, Haripriya, Suhasini, and many more
Sorabjee gave us Salve, GS, Ganesh, Lalit, Pritish Kapur and Manish Singhvi.
Don't know about anyone particular from Sibal, Singhvi or Salve except for a couple of HC judges.
In the present lot, CU Singh, Viswanathan (before judgeship), Vaidyanathan, PH Parekh have produced a quite a few
All the best!
Second, from my experience, law firms are shops where the MP and senior EPs are King, they decide everything. EVERYTHING. So the HR necessarily asks them before even saying a word or replying to a email. They are mouthpieces.
So as per procedure, your situation would be, the partner didn't wanna hire in the 2024 batch as didn't wanna shed money, but still wanted free labour, so they are making you work so you are no longer "fresher".
Also is the firm you are referring to the Mumbai office at D** *****. Maybe I know you lol.
Also all the best!, most people just get heart attack at 45.
this is one of the t1s that has an awful reputation wrt how it treats people, worse than the other t1s
A recent graduate here. Still without a job. Doing internships in my preferred area of work.
Can we have people from the 2023 graduate community share their experiences, struggle, career dilemma, financial despondency and other problems. And even if anything good is going on which they could share. Something that could motivate the rest of us.
I don't regret. I, anyway will litigate.
Placement wise, RML is better. You can grab PPO here as well. No placement scene tough.
Attempt 2024, better if you could secure top 3.
Good luck buddy, and a very warm welcome to Jamia, have fun ;)
Note - Go through LI's threads on placement scenes of the NLUs this year.
NOTE: appearing for clat 2024.
Stop promoting mediocrity and fraud. !
I request my seniors, herein to please, please advise me according to my situation as stated:
- I want to practise, nothing else (in the longer run)
- I want to become a designated Senior counsel, want to start early.
- I want to go to a firm only because of money for 3-4 years, and then join a senior counsel. The problem is, till when I would follow money? After 3-4 years, I might be a senior associate, might make double. Would it be possible for me to leave that and get back to a chamber again for far less than what I could make at a law firm? I doubt.
- I can negotiate with chambers for 40-50k.
- I don't need to look after my family in its entirety. A slight contribution will suffice. However, I need money to lead a dignified life in a metro city, not mere animal existence.
Thank you in anticipation!
Could you please name the seniors who actually invest in their juniors and teach?
Sanjoy Ghose is an excellent counsel. Thats it!
