We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:

Intern
Paralegal
Trainee associate ?
Do all firms have position of paralegal and trainee associate ?
(1) is it polite to call them at their office no. to ask status of application
(2) I have now seen syllabus of top law schools and realize that they study M&A and other corporate law subjects in better detail .
My law college had just one paper of company law. I just know few things about company law. Nothing else. Will that be hindrance at this stage ?
(3) can anyone outline procdure / steps to get internship?
Thanking u

I’d suggest that you try and get in touch with the HR personnel in your company and maybe request them to clarify the reason for all this. You’ll get a better idea that way. And if you are close to someone who’s HR, pls try asking them to request. I kinda then there’s some politics at play here. So this may help. But I’m sorry you’ve been out in this position and I hope things work out soon enough.
And also pls don’t resort to confrontation. It may backfire. But this doesn’t mean you tolerate toxic behaviour.
Thank you in anticipation:)
But in my case, they are actually forcing me to resign.
Is it legal?
As far the students are concerned, it is less toxic compared to other NLUs, every seniors and helpful and approachable. There are many forums to showcase talents for the people who are interested in extra curricular activities.
TNNLU has a 25 acres green campus with almost all of the amenities. It has a really great library with subscription to almost all of the top law journals and e books. TNNLU is a growing university, if your joining the university at 2025, by the time you finish your graduation, TNNLU would have reached to great heights. I advice you to consider TNNLU as a growing Tier 3 college.

Wonder if that’s an acceptable excuse for the counsels to not deliver work!! From what I hear, they still haven’t received increments and it’s almost the end of the year.
Also GNLU v. NLIU preference dilemma is protracted. GNLU was coming out as winner for last few years, but has now earned itself a bad name due to insensitive new batches and other horrible events. NLIU is also neck and neck with GNLU in terms of placements.
I struggled a lot in Delhi, but I'd like to impress the next one for a potential PPO of sorts here. Pray help! Thanks in advance.
when i went to college in 2018 there were hardly any such people, in my final year a quarter of the batch was either cross-dressing, coloring hair, were into pronouns and all the stuff.
I am expecting JK Das, AKP or Rathin Bandopadhyay to be the next VC now.

Your post is silent about ''WLB'' and ''Relaxed Life/Hectic Culture''
Their favourite pass time is to engage in blood feud against the other profs who might be getting slightly ahead of them in career trajectory
Hard working profs with innovative ideas are sidelined and they leave
Students don't care as long as there is enough placement through campus
VC not able to solve the puzzles of various interests among faculty to move things along
The place is ruining itself, merely a rent seeking organization with no growth, we don't need any outsider to help :)
What could a Kishore Dutta do that faculty and students are not already doing to our beloved NUJS?
With my limited knowledge and experience with the two weeks of internship, I do not think I am the most competent to answer this question or reach out. However, even with this stint and the turn of horrible events thereon, one thing is for sure the SAM ECM Mumbai may not be hiring. Their Mumbai office has one Partner and one PA and lot of Associates. Also they aren't doing Indus level work. They gave one PPO this year in the Bangalore office, but I guess thats it.
Also Delhi, I dont think they are hiring as well even with the attrition they are facing supposedly. Perhaps, partners are looking for more seasoned and lateral hires, switching to somewhat of a JSA CM model. I think someone with more experience with the team will help you better. Having said that, please dont reach out to Associates, SA, PAs, Partner and especially the HR, because they will all paint a very rosy picture to extract work from you and ghost you later. Maybe try out another team ? GC is always the safest switch.
Unka hi zamana hai.
Objectively, based off of ranks, you aren't going to shortlist me ever. And it will take me forever to recover (rank, health alike). Even assuming that those with better ranks are well within the "talent" standards you are hinting at, will you shortlist me? You wouldn't ask for exceptional circumstances such as that of the past 2 months of my life? you just wouldn't, would you. Would you get me a chance to work for four weeks with Yash's team for 10k? What do I do, dear HR?
Is it self-censorship because of the backlash by law firms in the US?
Suddenly, my senior told me to write a resignation letter as my training has been biased.
How can they force me to resign?
What should I do?
I am not from legal domain.
Worst place to be in.
Thanks to new mods.
CNLU will have to adhere. This is a very good reason to avoid state universities at all costs. In contrast, no impact on IIT Patna, and AIIMS Patna - both are very new, but being national universities they remain unscathed in this jamboree.
The cheapest online UK degree (fully valid in the UK) is https://www.london.ac.uk/courses/bachelor-laws#fees-1167 it is a rage in Pakistan and West Africa. Total cost in three years is amazing £6118
After you complete your online UK degree, you can pursue a sandwich LLM Bar course at UoL https://www.law.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/law/bpc/ it will cost £15k (tuition) + £9k (living cost) = £24k this course is for one year and necessary to join pupilage at any of the inns, I havent found a place which does the bar course online
then comes the only hard part to find a pupilage. this will depend on your quality and entworking and interview skills. If you get a pupilage for one year you will qualify as a barrister. This is where you get paid.
So, when you are pursuing the online UK LLB degree from Uni of London you can pursue an Indian law degree as well. BCI says that Indian law degrees cannot be done online, but it does not say that foreign law degrees cannot be done online.
So, with just £30k in 4 years you can be ready to join pupilage. and in just 5 years from start become a barrister for more info have a look at UK's BCI https://www.barcouncil.org.uk/becoming-a-barrister.html
Sexual assault allegations, as far as I am aware, did not occur in a ragging context (seniors->freshers). It is a serious issue but a separate one.
I mean in my last internship, they made me work 12 hours and the audacity to say that the presentation and article should be written after work hours. Fuck it, I left the internship within a week
I just have a question though: did Dutta breach ethics by sitting over matters involving the former Regi and can he be reported to the BCI?
Nehi milega kyuki hein mediocrity ki onus
I'll admit that this is against the frenzied 'if you are alive and interned with us, we'll hire you' phase that it went through last year in order to get to the 1000 lawyers mark. So, yes, you'll probably hear from the batch of 2023 people about how CAM distributed PPOs like candies and how that scenario is nowhere the same anymore. But, if you look back to their patterns for pre-covid & even 2021 & 2022 batches, you'll find that they are currently following the same pattern of being selective on acads & NLU tags.
Nujs has become mediocre with every passing year. A law school which used to challenge NLS Bangalore in 2010-11 on academic front has become comparable to NLU Jodhpur & GNLU in 2023, far behind NLS/ Nalsar.
Nujs badly needs a great VC and revamp of its faculty and infrastructure.
"Ghatak is also believed to have called Dutta, who according to sources, did not attend the minister’s call and instead phoned an MP from the state to seek his advice."
https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/kolkata/west-bengal-advocate-general-9022502/
The MP is obviously his mentor Kalyan Banerjee. Any chance Kalyan could advise Dutta to decline the AG post and seek a Lok Sabha ticket or MLA ticket instead?
Having said that my experience with CA firms is far better than law firms.
(NB 370 will go in favour of Govt)
1. In 2011, Mamata's first AG was a very eminent Senior Advocate and London-educated barrister with A-list clients, Anindya Mitra. He resigned in 2013. Mint reported that the resignation came a day after criticism of the Mamata government's poor human rights record by the Calcutta High Court.

2. She then appointed another Senior Advocate and London-educated barrister, Bimal Chatterjee, as AG. Less high-profile than Anindya Mitra, but quite respected. He resigned in 2014 citing "health grounds", but whether that was the real reason is doubtful, as he continued to appear in court for private matters after resigning.

3. She then appointed a very eminent Senior Advocate and London-educated barrister with A-list clients, Jayanta Mitra, as AG. He resigned in 2017, but went public with his dissatisfaction with the government. He said: "I resigned to keep my spine firm and straight. I could not compromise with my conscience." Reacting to his resignation, Senior Advocate and CPIM leader (now MP) Bikash Bhattacharya said: "All the AGs who resigned were extremely qualified but they couldn’t become part of political decisions. These men were under pressure. Do you really believe that men holding such high positions would resign to pursue hobbies?"

4. Her next AG was Kishore Datta, former junior of TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee. At the time, he was a non-Senior Advocate and non-barrister who was relatively unknown. Also the youngest to be appointed AG. His tenure was also the most controversial one for NUJS. He was said to constantly interfere in the functioning of the college, which led to protest letters by the SJA (covered extensively by LI). These clashes happened mainly during the period of Talukdar as interim VC, and included the introduction of domicile quota and changes in the composition of the governing bodies. This period also witnessed the scrapping of the iPleaders course, with iPleaders eventually winning at the arbitration and being awarded compensation from NUJS. However, the most controversial decision was the manner in which NKC was appointed as VC (covered extensively by LI). The SJA had written demanding that it be consulted in the appointment process, but the letter was ignored. After not appointed a VC for a long time, Datta hurriedly formed a selection committee during the tenure of a judge who was acting Cal HC CJ for just 2 months. He also appointed a then TMC spokesman in the selection committee (who was removed after students pointed that it violated the university charter). Finally, NKC was appointed ahead of VCV despite the latter being a NALSAR professor with a superior record. The then Chancellor (CJI Gogoi) appointed Justice Arun Mishra as his nominee. Both very poorly-regarded judges who were least bothered about NUJS.
Datta eventually resigned in 2021, citing "personal reasons". However, the Indian Express reported: "A government source, however, said, “Recently, the government lost many cases in the Calcutta High Court, including the post-poll violence case. Top leaders of the ruling party were annoyed with that."

5. Mamata's next AG was Soumendranath (Gopal) Mookherjee, Senior Advocate and Cambridge-educated barrister, one of the top counsels in the Calcutta High Court. This morning, it was reported that he has now resigned after just 2 years in office. According to the Indian Express, the Law Minister asked him to resign. The Express also said: "A senior minister said, “The state government was not happy with Mukherjee as it lost almost all cases in the Calcutta High Court under his stewardship." Both TOI and the Express are reporting that Kishore Datta will be back as AG.
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata/bengal-ag-quits-after-little-over-2-yrs-in-post/articleshow/105136292.cms
https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/kolkata/west-bengal-advocate-general-9022502/
If Mamata expects Datta to miraculously end the government's losing streak in the court, she is daydreaming, because:
a) The others who resigned are far more eminent than him and Datta was previously removed for non-performance anyway
b) Legally, the government is on very shaky ground in call cases: chit fund scam, teaching scam, coal scam, cattle scam, ration scam, sand scam etc. Our higher courts go by the law.
But the bigger question for NUJS is whether Datta will again interfere in the functioning of the college? Also, will he renew NKC's term as VC? Will the SJA intervene more strongly and demand a fair appointment procedure? Could Chandrachud also be more pro-active than Gogoi?
