Hi, so this is coming from an A1 who comes from a decent college working at a T2 firm. I am someone who isn't too passionate about law but as I find it easy and is currently the shortest route to earning a decent money 10-15 years down the line I am planning to stick with it. Just wanted to ask that whether is it kind of guaranteed that after 10-12 years you would be earning above a crore ?? Asking because I come from a pretty humble background so that is enough of motivation for me to keep on working , but I feel the lack of number of lawyers 10-12 years ago meant that even mid lawyers have kind of made it , which isn't going to be case just because of the numbers of lawyers graduating every year ? Am I making sense ? Sorry this is essentially me vommiting my mid-night anxiety thoughts anonymously . So my question is basically is it actually worth it ? To stick for 10-12 years ?

You'll be fine. It's the generation that's graduating in the next few years that's going to be in trouble for the reasons you mentioned. The sector still has a bit of capacity. Work hard and move upwards, and in some years move laterally to another firm if you need to. Good luck!

After 10-12 years, value of a crore would be present day value of 50 lacs.

That aside, if you work in T1 firms or good MNCs, do good work, it’s almost certain you’ll make that kind of Money. Best part is after 10 yrs, salary increases every year without you needing to do much more extra.

There’s still plenty of scope for Indian law firms to grow, we currently have 5500 listed companies, this figure should easily double in next 10 years. Can’t imagine the volume of M&A, cap marks, b&f, gen Corp and disputes work this will bring.

With China + 1 approach, FIIs will keep pumping money into India. Domestic consumption and retail participation is also increasing yoy. More law firms in India will breakaway and existing firms will become bigger.

Tech boom is fading away, doctors continue to be paid abysmally compared to the number of years they need to train, heydays of investment banking are already over. Lawyers especially Corp lawyers will be the most highly paid profession in India similar to western countries. This is irrespective of whether foreign firms set up in India, in next 10-12 years they would have probably been here 7-8 years already.

Compared to what ? MBA ? NO ! Data analyst? NO ! However, if you're a judge, an AoR, a partner, a civil servant within these 12 years than definitely worth it. In the end it's where you are at the end of the 12 years than matter whether it's worth it or not. Who knows you may earn in crores in these 12 years but by the end of it you may find your calling and become ascetic and turn into a monk, leaving behind all these glorified materialistic pursuits. We never know the end till will reach there.
