- NLSIU
- Edinburgh, SOAS, Warwick etc
Note also that many NLSIU alumni teach at Oxbridge, LSE, KCL etc. So these universities themselves recognise the worth of an NLSIU degree.
School and hospital argument is valid, I agree. Govt should focus on those too
What's the longest you've had to work without any break day? Just curious to know how bad it can get. Also, please mention how frequent such streaks are. Don't trolls please, need genuine responses.
The standards of India has become so low that they consider this filthy air as pure.
Coming from liberals who are supposedly for free speech and they are the sole arbiters of what speech is protected.
This is why Fox News, Piers Morgan, Andrew Tate and the rest thrive. They refuse to kowtow to the mob left that has taken over most aspects of our daily lives, media, schools, colleges and work places.
They are writing it in a way as if they are morally talking about taking a stand against tipping or even bribing lol. Is this firm even worth interning for free?
Making it to Top 100 and then Top 50 in the world will be a great deal for NLS or any Indian law school.
Jindal has broken into top 100 and maintaining it for last 3 years.
Wish NLSIU breaks into top 100 soon.
Do your own due diligence
I hope you get what you want
If only you read the Ayodhya Judgement, it was precisely because of continued worship that the land was given to the hindu parties.
There is historical, continued worship at Gyanvapi as well at one of the walls of the 'mosque', the suit was filed so that access to the inside would be available to worshippers who have always prayed at the walls.
Do serious law bro, even that clown Chandrachud recognized that a structure being called a mosque is not the same as the structure being a mosque provided evidence could be adduced to said effect.
Needs to be banned
βThe Ram mandir (temple) in Ayodhya has been inaugurated, and within the next seven days, the CAA will be implemented across the country. This is my guarantee. Not just in West Bengal, the CAA would be implemented in every state of India within a week.β
https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/caa-will-be-implemented-across-india-within-7-days-union-ministers-big-guarantee-in-bengal-101706496330258.html
We all remember what happened the last time, which was pre-Covid. Universities across India rose in protest. NLSIU and NALSAR students went on the streets and some were detained by cops. NUJS withdrew an invitation to the state Governor (now VP of India) and invited Derek O'Brien instead. Almost every single NLU student body wrote a petition condemning the CAA.
So are we going to see a repeat? Many of the students who protested back then have since graduated and work in law firms, but some juniors of that time are now in 4th or 5th year. Will these juniors of yesterday and seniors of today take the lead an organise new protests and petitions? Also, those who protested last time and work in firms --- will they also join the protests and support as alumni??
I can talk to people normally and make friends but ppt is something I wouldn't like ever.
So are there any firms where presentation is not mandatory ?
Now I feel really bad that I missed out on something ? Did I do the right thing?
I am doing good now, just regretting the internship lost. Have you all done such things ?
Ye sab nahi samjhega.
if you wish to settle abroad, then do an LLM in US.
if you are from a prestigious college and have a lot of money, then then also go to UK for a LLM. not for knowledge etc but for having the best time of your student life
But we'll get something
Further they will also expect you to be available on ur vacation or days off since they are available for providing client services and so should you.
If raise any voice or try to avoid working for a weekend.. you may also be given a warning that this is not how it works.. u may need to think about leaving the law firm.
People just want to one-up the next person , thats how they derive their selfworth. Lawyers want to be known as their Avtar of Salmond or Bentham and behave like know- it-all.
Workplace politics is worst in law, smallest achievement (say, getting adjournment) is overly glorified and smallest mistake (putting wrong date in diary) becomes reason of next 2 weeks of off-handed comments and abuse.
I have been on both sides.
Every law school will have its own set of problems, but it's up to you how are you going to hold yourself. NLUO is not that of a NLU to be at. It has good placements, decent academic scenes and good co-curricular activities culture (bit tough to manage with classes though) .
Most of the questions reproduce the provision and test how you apply it or what you understand from it, rather than mugging up.
Keepa good hold over latest case laws. I remember many judiciary aspirants also attempting the paper with me (around 40-50 people) good chunk of them did not even cleared the cut-off, so dont brow-beat yourself into thinking that you dont stand a chance.
In the end the judges want their work to not suffer, so prior experience and good grasp of the work expected to be done; making cohesive briefs, detailed research and judgement notes is the primary concern, with older candidates having a sort of preference over freshers.
What I have observed in 10 years of law firm and in house experience. I have observed one thing - martial status and partner behavior is closely linked,
Male Partners who are
1. Divorced
2. In Unhappy Marriages - you can easily spot
3. Doesn't spend any time with families/kids.
Are the worst in the Industry. They want to transfer their personal life patterns to everyone who work with them. They also perform shit and put all blame on Associates.
Additionally, Female Partners who have never married/ is childless can be equally bad for your health and happiness. They work 24*7 and expect juniors to have same life as they have. Not taking names, but few unmarried/childless female partners are as worse as a divorced partner. They don't consider the fact that you have a life outside office.
If you have luxury of choosing a team - choose a team where the partner has a happy married life, potentially with kids. More than the number of deals they have closed or professional credentials. It's easy to know these details as it is open secret within a firm.
Not judging people with dysfunctional personal lives, but often I have observes these are people with whom you don't want to work with.
My sample size is low. Also unfortunately, many partners unfortunately have disfunctional personal lives.
LLM students absolutely do not benefit from the brand value of an NLS to the same extent that LLB students do. These programmes have been running for a while now and we know this. An LLM programme from an ivy league school- you will have learned american law- I dont think thats very valuable to a tier 1 firm in India. Chances of employment post that are low if youre not in the top of your batch and network a lot. It is difficult to get a job in America.
On social issues, I actually changed my mind on a lot of stuff. I'm still a leftist- but I think the left has blindspots and we tend to buy into a lot of beliefs en masse without engaging with the other side.
I used to think RWers were unquestionably evil. Abortion for example- Left wing rhetoric tells us that all abortion without limitations has to be legal. That a womans right to choose should trump a childs right to life. That in fact a foetus is not a baby at all until it is "born". Its just not logically consistent. I think foetuses are babies when women want the babies. I think all abortion should be legal but there should be strong moral and social proscriptions. It is unquestionably murder. I think some murder is okay. Murder in self defence is okay. When the health care choices are- either the mother lives or the baby does- I think its okay for any person to choose their own life. Abortion should be safe, legal, and in any good society- rare. Thats a very moderate position that I came to when I stopped assuming conservatives are awful evil people who hate women. And I am a woman- just putting that out there.
I dont think RWers are evil for questioning trans stuff. Its easy to dismiss them as "transphobic". But I just dont think many people labelled "transphobic" actually are. Actual research that seeks to help trans identified people shows that dysphoria is real, but it is very uncommon, there is recently a social contagion among young women and kids. There is actually scientific evidence that most dysphoria- when left alone- resolves itself. That when you treat other mental illnesses these people have- the dysphoria goes away. Its often a symptom of other mental illnesses. Even if it doesnt, I dont think having dysphoria means you are actually "born in the wrong body" any more than having anorexia would mean you are actually too fat.
I dont think it is possible for a male bodied person to ever know what it is to be a female bodied person. Men think they know- because they have stereotypes and caricatures of women- the virgin, the whore, the madonna, the mother- but none of that actually encompasses the female experience. And I dont think liking dresses or wanting to be seen as pretty and soft makes you a woman any more than liking maths and being a critical thinker makes you a man. Women and men both are allowed to have personalities that are not typically feminine or masculine- that does not actually change their sex. Gender really is just a shorthand for gendered roles and behaviors and stereotypes- I think all of that is socially made up nonsense that we should do away with. If a male bodied person wants to wear a dress and high heels and call himself helen- fine- free country.
But I do have an issue when they come for womens sex segregated spaces, when schools and universities take the womens bathroom and make it gender neutral it puts women at risk. When Lia thomas gets to win medals in womens competitions- that sets back a womans rights movement that fought to have specific womens competitions. When trans people want to be included within reserved quotas for women- thats not okay with me. When they want to be centred in all conversations about womens struggles- that is not okay with me. Women have the right to be their own political movement and dressing up and pretending to be one for therapeutic reasons doesnt actually mean everyone else has to accept you. And I actually dont think womens interests and interests of trans activists are even aligned. Gender neutral laws about rape and about domestic violence will harm women. Undoubtedly.
When we encourage children to question their "gender identity"- we tell them that their souls have a gender even when their souls dont have any other immutable characteristics- not race not height not weight nothing. Gender identity is a made up religious nonsense which is unfalsifiable. And when we push children to get on puberty blockers and hormone replacement and surgery- we do irreparable harm to these kids. Research actually shows that even social transition- pronouns and such- push children further in with what is a mental disorder. Many kids who may make claims about "actually being" the other sex turn out to be gay later in life- by medicalising them we are sterilising gay kids.
Sex is real, sex matters for how women are treated in society. And nothing- not clownfish or intersex conditions or "enlightened" college goers changing their pronouns to "they" will actually change that. What will change the second bit - how much sex matters- is considering the material reality of womens oppression and tackling that.
I dont think people like vikramaditya sahai should be in charge of making policy for school children. First because this person is undoubtedly extremist, and ill, and amoral in his behavior. Second because if you read the actual policies he proposed- they wreak all manner of misery on young kids in order to validate "transwomen" as an identity group. I dont necessarily think RWers made a very moral case against him a few years ago- they basically tried to shame the man for his very public kinks. ( And maybe men with very public kinks who post vulgar photos of themselves on social media arent the best people to make school policy). But there was a moral impulse there- they saw something that wasnt right even if they didnt articulate it in palatable language for me personally.
Religious stuff- I dont think we should demolish mosques or build more temples. But I do think its worth asking if the reason the muslim community is so left behind economically is because they chain half their population to the home as a matter of culture. If they wont let their kids go to school without wearing a hijab- why is that respectable to anyone in a secular society. That kind of religious dogmatism would be wildly offensive when Hindus do it no? It is to me at least, offensive regardless of which particular religion is doing the oppressing. Why is a uniform civil code a bad idea exactly? Sure we would all like to live in a world where the muslim community reformed itself and enacted fair rules for inheritance and marriage and divorce and maintenance and child custody for its women. But its been a while since independence. How much longer do Muslim women have to suffer under the indignity of unequal laws because the state and larger society is too cowardly to confront the bigotry of middle class muslim imams? The leftist position boils down to- " we take care of our women and they take care of theirs". I thought women were equal citizens and not beholden to their religious group for their rights no? There is clearly a religious extremism problem among both Hindus and Muslims- but it seems to me the left doesnt want to speak about the latter at all. Which is a disservice to groups like women and gay and lesbian people who do need a left to work for them.
Sure- it would be a wonderful thing to wait for kashmir to fully enter the union by their own volition. But again- is that even possible in a state where any opposition party could encourage secessionist tendencies to gain power? And if Shehla Rashid of all people tells me that Kashmir has improved since the abrogation of 370- do I really know enough to disagree with her?
Its easy to assume that people who disagree with you are evil. i used to. But it might just be the case that they have a different moral framework than you do and theyre looking at things in your blindspot- not all of them, but certainly some of them. If you go in assuming theyre evil instead of asking questions- you might not be acting in a rational manner- only in an emotional one. If you want there to be more centrists on college campuses- it might help to try and challenge your own assumptions and engage in good faith conversation that doesnt boil down to " You said a taboo thing so you are evil".
B.Com/BBA & BSc: These streams bless students with the highest marks. In fact, most of our batch toppers are only at the top because they were gifted with arbitrary marks from these streams. The professors are also very reasonable, and some basically give marks for free.
BA: The toughest out of all the streams, and you will need to work extremely hard to get marks. If you're a sincere student, you will succeed, but make sure you work very, very hard, or avoid this stream because not all students manage to get marks.
BSW: Probably the worst stream mainly because the professors won't give marks, no matter how well you write. They have a certain threshold and don't raise that. Also, the professors here are the most unreasonable and barely know anything about their subjects. But if you want to just chill or get decent marks, you can take this stream. It's extremely difficult to be in the top 5 of your batch from this stream because of how you are marked, but it's easy to pass or score above average. BSW students do go on multiple field trips though if you're interested in that.
2. So no actual consultation with industry or even outside academics with proven track records for developing successful and practical course curricula. Only reducing or doing away with random modules to help students do other activities. Very scientific.
3. So your only claim to faculty quality is that you have got better faculty than GNLU? Very top 3 attitude indeed. Name a single faculty of yours other than Massey who is even remotely known in the academic field in their chosen areas or has decent publication record or research cred.
4. Keep competing with GNLU and pointing out their flaws. That will certainly help you improve yourselves. (I have no connection with GNLU)
That will be a bad situation for nalsar, but good for other NLUs for they will have the chance to overtake nalsar through better student quality.
Economics is different, but on social issues RWers are unquestionably evil.
I am a 3rd-year law student currently in my 6th semester at a tier 3 law school in New Delhi. Despite the absence of placement or internship opportunities from my college, I am determined to secure an internship at a tier 2 or tier 1 law firm in Delhi NCR.
I have a background in litigation-based internships mostly at the moment additionally, have completed one corporate law internship at Singhania & Co back in 2022.
I am reaching out to seek valuable insights from the community on how to further enhance my chances of securing internships in the tier 2/1 law firms, and hopefully secure a ppo.
As far as curriculum changes go,the entire academic curriculum has been revamped to reduce the number of tests and introduce varied skill based testing, this not only has provided NLUJ more time to pursue to Competitions, Publications and writing but also reduced the workload of the entire student body.
Another point to note that its a comparison between NLUJ and GNLU, how does faculty recruitment of NLSIU come into the picture, hiring faculty is not a criteria for this debate. If it is why don't you bring up the "reputable faculty" GNLU has been hiring because honestly NLUJ has a better faculty with way better teaching experience and pedagogy
Bring up the positives of GNLU because honestly I dont think there are any
GNLU trolls go ahead downvote this but honestly that isn't going to change the truth
B.Com LLB/BBA LLB (Hons): The classroom is filled with students who studied Commerce during their 10+2 period; however, one will find a few people from science backgrounds. People with a science background must learn more, especially the accounting basics. The papers are pretty scoring if one prepares well for the exams, thus helping one maintain a healthy CGPA. The only difference between B.Com LLB students (specific financial markets & accounting related subjects) & BBA LLB students
( Specific Marketing/Management related subjects) are a few subjects, and common subjects are taught in a joint classroom session. Produces Gold Medalists. Placements wise most of the people get placed with companies & law firms alike. Some In-House job openings are primarily available for students from these two streams. The faculties are decent for both streams.
BSC LLB (Hons): This stream is highly preferred amongst students with a science background. One needs to be interested in Forensic Science, Physics, etc., to score well in this stream. Evaluation through practicals does happen & thus, one needs to prepare well enough to maintain a healthy CGPA in this stream. Placement: Some students get placed in Law firms/In-House, some prepare for UPSC/Judiciary & some go for litigation. Produces Gold Medalists.
BSW LLB (Hons): This stream is considered the least demanding among all the streams. The subjects are more philosophical; field trips are also organized for students. Students can score decent marks if they study from the prescribed reading material & also from senior's notes. Placement wise:
Most students in this stream either prepare for UPSC/Judiciary or go for Litigation by applying for the GLASS Scholarship offered by GNLU; in rare cases, some get placed in Law firms/In-House.
There is nothing wrong in taking a job that pays less, if nothing else, to get to make mistakes and still have some control over your future. Markets have generally been bad for freshers in the last 3-5 years (unlike 10-15 years ago), and so there are fewer opportunities for employment without post-qualification experience.
main point being, bad conditions lead to anger. anger needs direction. leaders show that anger a target to be mad at. thus radicalization happens.
B.Com/ BBA you can score crazy marks provided you are good at it. 3-4 students every year get a 90+ score in accounts and FIM and MANY get 80+. But it can also backfire if you are not good at it. Some kids fail in these subjects as well. So it can go either way.
B.SW on average you will get decent marks so it is the safest option if you want to chill but you won't get the upside of B.Com/ BBA.
B.Sc is similar to B.SW in terms of marks but IMO requires the most amount of effort with all the lab work and records and whatnot.
Consider for a second that if you disagree with the leftist rhetoric on israel palestine- maybe its a sign that the right wing folks arent all evil. And maybe you dont actually know what they think about economic or social issues and should open your ears a little bit before apriori deciding they must be hateful.
This is what college students dont get- its not left or right. most people will have a range of views on different policies and will change their minds over their lives. The real contest is the authoritarian extremists and the centrist liberals.
Note: Hope it increases moreπ

NAAC will now be a five-level maturity-based accreditation system. The top two levels, i.e. Levels 4 and 5 are interesting.
Level 4 will mean "Institutions of National Excellence"
Level 5 will mean "Institutions of Global Excellence for Multi-disciplinary Research & Education"
All state NLUs will not make it over Level 3 - as they are not national entities anyway and are single-discipline law schools.
