We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.

Chennai though ranks 4th in both the above parameters, Tamil Nadu is the second most industrialized State and Chennai is the hub and will soon go past Kolkata and even overtake New Delhi.
EJIL is as mainstream as it gets, which has now said that TWAIL has become mainstream.
You can do your research, but to get started....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=988RRcQr5xc.
I am although confused about this plan a little as should i keep trying for firms in dispute resolution or other fields?
60k in Equity MFs
10k in direct stocks.
This looks impossible right now, so I may have to shift careers and become a politician or a farmer (or even both, which is extremely common).
Could it be that she was fed up with the constant politics happening in the court and saw a better future in ANY other part of India than Bengal?
Incidentally, two more well-qualified young judges have left the Cal HC recently: Justice Bobby Saraf (NLSIU alum) for Allahabad and Justice Lapita Banerjee (Leeds alum and UK-qualified barrister) for Punjab.
What’s going on? Why the sudden brain drain?

Need the videos of evicting the profs who taught these people too, why are they getting away
Thats the only regret
Right wing folks celebrating here should introspect. Theyre always whinging about moderation on LI- and I agree- there is a bias. But they support censorship when it comes to university spaces? how do you square that circle?
One can literally count the Tier 1 law firms in India. Leave the "law and international development" the visa issues for even STEM grads in USA is bad. The European economy is anyway dead.
Point is, buddy, yeh bakchodi chhod do. Sarkari naukri nikal nahi paegi (yeh mat chillana ki I don't give a shit about Govt. job. Nikal ke dikhao Grade A non-contractual job) aur private ka haal behaal hai.
Plus, Goldman Sachs report says, law will be the most disrupted by Gen AI. Maybe the best lawyers won't feel the itch, par average & above average lawyers will. And the Lala firms will lay off anyone deemed disposable.
Toh yeh bakwas of Left, Right, Idealism mat karo. Everything is getting extremely extremely competitive and organised. Even Grade D jobs have dedicated YouTube channels with 20 lakh + views.
So, apna bhala soche. Jindal will march on. And for that matter, any big private/public university. Chillate rahiye angrezi me. Better is get the degree, be self sufficient, create a YT channel like Soch by Mohak and spread awareness and evidence based policy making.
Aage aapki Marzi.
Later when Dr NLM exited NLUJ and was involved in starting up IIT KGP Law, the Dube duo moved too. Dr NLM tried very hard to install NKC as the Law School head when NLM was moving to KIIT. But IIT KGP Law rejected NKC. Later NLM helped NKC secure the directorship of KIIT Law.
Follow the IoUs (as also some other things) and the ducks line up.
Even when PIB exited finally in 2018, EC allowed him to "resign" and remained indifferent when Lord Taluk and later NKC killed off those inquiries. EC didn't even care when the state govt initiated an inquiry that deeply troubled NKC. And that inquiry report too got buried.
Where is the evidence that VC is in hot water with EC? Has the EC initiated an inquiry against NKC for the so-called unapproved release of funds to iPleaders? Did the EC ask the VC to formally explain how NUJS lost in HC, arbitration and in the SC? Did it ask how and who chose the university lawyers and the briefing that they received from VC?
Has the EC initiated an inquiry against NKC for not completing the inquiries that the EC itself initiated?
Has the EC initiated an inquiry against NKC for the alleged SH complaint? What about the much talked about FIR? How does the EC ignore all this especially when it has at least 4 faculty members who are now at loggerheads with NKC.
Maybe it is the Associate Professor who is in hot water for overplaying her hand.
PIB and even Lord Taluk had vested interests in killing off those inquiries. But NKC came with a "clean slate". He left CU Law just before TMC came to power and after a detour or two served KIIT Law for nearly a decade.
NKC was bleached of all red by the time he applied for VC position here. So why did NKC actively kill off all the inquiries and heartily embrace PIB acolytes and their counsel?
Did you have enough information about India and India's economy, administration, and issues which plague India to ask this question? Did you realize after reading this document how complex and multi dimensional every topic is and how every decision we take has pros, cons and a madhyam marg?
Now delete the thread.
The lady was very much a director of Effulgent when the deal was being negotiated and signed.
Similarly, first crack the exam. And the objective of NLS is to give good legal education which they are providing. 3y LLB means you have already been through college so you are mature enough to make better decisions.
Why India has this level of handholding shit? All students going for MS network, inmail, try and get into companies. College, that too for a PG, doesn't owe you this placement.
Placement aur package hi chahiye toh better apply to ISB Hyderabad. In 1y, you can get into MBB consulting firm like McKinsey or Product Management at Microsoft or Google. Product mgmt will have 100x better WLB too (unless you are laid off).
Anyway, my summary advice will be to crack the exam. Come back here after May 1st week and ask 3y LLB students for advice. Pretty sure they'll give genuine gyan. Par bina "Provisionally Admitted" ke thappa ke, yaha pe aake Magic Circle Magic Circle chillana bewakoofi hai.
This is like I have 6/6 in one eye and 6/12 in other (while the requirement is 6/9 minimum) hence, I cannot be IPS. Abe pehle nikal toh lo, phir UPSC pe court case kar dena.
Locating a "law university" in Bongaon wouldn't be considered "big" by the Matua community. TMC has already given them a full-fledged university, which can expand further.
Asansol/Durgapur isn't just Ghatak teriitory. The region has other satraps as well. Also it has a functional airport nearby and several industries and urban areas.
You know what I realized seeing the IITians and their companies? Most of their companies are shit and have 0 tech. Yes. 0 tech. Web development and creating a website like meesho is not tech. Any tom, D and harry can use no code tools to build such things. I will bet my life that any good enough Bengaluru private college CS grad can build those things. Tech means Neural networks. GPT level. Yeh bakchodi nahi jo tech ke naam yeh log karte hai.
Look at Amber, Powerplay. Is it tech? It is shit. Any final year or 1y experience android developer from a Tier 5 AP college can build it. Then why are they successful?
Because they try. And not give up. Yes. They try. They try the stupidest of ideas while my smart friends continue with their mediocre jobs or try doing MBA. I am sure some people are catching this idea - as it is evident with the success of Astrotalk.
So, the point, the alleged - "capable people" are not exactly that capable. And you anyway, you have no other option than to compete. Now the question is how to compete? And is there any example? Google J Sai Deepak. He is a Mechanical Engineer from Anna Univ. Pretty sure no one can counter him on his strong areas and he'll get a RS seat soon. Where did the unlimited talent NLU kids go?
So, what can you do now?
1. Use Instagram and put out reels. In Hindi. See legal.lucknow handle. Authority figure is someone who the janta thinks is an authority. Whether NLS profs think you are authority or not is irrelevant.
So, put out reels explaining law, explaining the nuances and boost it.
2. Similarly, write on LinkedIn. Now 100 paragraph gyan documents. 3 para edits on the new updates or explaining complex topics.
3. My english is okay. I went an international competition. All elite college students came. A friend told me, mug up your facts and be thorough with your research. Yudh angrezi ka nahi, gyan ka hai.
I countered the shit out of those Dhirubhai Ambani SoBo kids with my tuta phuta english for 2 days.
So, make sure your research is top-notch. Use chatGPT 4. (Download Microsoft bing, now use copilot ) and ask questions like it was an assistant.
4. Pick up fights with the best in business. It is funny, you know. People want Govt to listen to them, and Bibek Debroy posts every day on LinkedIn and he get 2 likes and random influencers get 100 likes for their "25 learnings under 25). Go and comment below Ashwath Rau LinkedIn post or AMS's tweet or posts with facts and references. People will be forced, yes forced, to listen to you.
Finally, lado. Ratta aur gyan ready rakho aur nazro me aao. Phir dekho kamaal.
I can speak Malayalam, but my reading and writing skills are weak. Will it be an issue while giving the exams?
I am writing Judicial Services Exams in other States where Hindi is local language. How difficult is Kerala Judicial Services Exams? How to go about it? How to prepare?
Any tips and tricks are appreciated!
Please avoid at all costs
PPO >> Parents
The bottomline is , We have to live with our lives, our strengths and weaknesses, perfections and imperfections, goods and evils, and we can never fully come to terms with the success of others. No. So don't pity you, enjoy you, enjoy who are you, being you, what are you.Bloom where you are planted, coz u don't know what worth you will have somewhere else.
But I’m also curious why two communist parents will put their child in such a capitalist and elite law school! 😅
In terms of his record, Prof Dube and Mrs (Prof) Dube were not popular or highly respected, to put it mildly. That’s all I’ll say. The point about student-authored publications can be verified by looking at their publications list.
In contrast, Prof Dube’s successor, Prof SV Joga Rao from NLSIU, was very popular at RGSOIPL. Prof Joga Rao is also much liked at NLSIU as a teacher. His classes on evidence law are quite famous and RGSOIPL students he taught also benefitted from his lectures. He has also been a litigator and has valuable practical experience, in addition to contacts with many generations of NLSIU alumni.
As for Prof VCV, he was also well-liked at RGSOIPL and has a pleasant personality. The most positive change he made was in the area of curriculum reform and in building the exchange programme with GW law school, funded by Mr Vinod Gupta.
When we NLU grads enter the market, we are laughed upon by Traditional College grads for basics like not knowing the process of filing and drafting. And very rightly so. NLUs (Tier-1) are only good if you want to study law due to academic interests.
You are one of the very luckiest person to have done law from non-NLU place and survive the demanding turf of litigation. For most NLU grads, then can't make it to litigation and go beyond their 30s with the mark of practicing advocates. Cheers to you mate.
In school/ colleges, “daydreaming” is looked down upon as it’s considered a waste of time. Seniors considered that maybe in that time the student could get so much more done. Hustle and don’t waste a single moment was the common refrain.
Since joining a law firm - your mind is constantly racing - there’s hardly any time to day dream. Instead it is replaced with stress, anxiety,
and a constant need to achieve efficiency in work.
Do you ever think - maybe our minds need a period of rest, when we can just be and not think about getting some work done. Maybe daydreaming is good for our mental health?
Maybe daydreaming wasn’t a bad thing after all?
Some groups smoke weed, drink, smoke cigarettes etc. Some just drink, some drink occasionally and some don’t do any of those things.
I feel like most people smoke up at night to slow down and relax with friends. But few people (maybe depends on NLUs and wealth of individual) also do hard drugs in their rooms or parties. This percentage is definitely lesser than the weed folks and rare. Weed is more acceptable amongst the student crowd, hard drugs not so much.
An equal minority is the non smoking non drinking group, but they do exist.
You’ll find your group when you go to college. It’s ok :)
Their entire worldview is constructed based on how they are more superior than all other lawyers because they cracked an exam called CLAT
Prepare for m&a it'll be the same thing ;)
Delhi and Mumbai please. Seen some posts where people say it is not structured well but no further information.
I m anticipating a few couplets from Amar Sinhji on the importance of attending office physically.
Partners ko bhi pagalpan sawaar hai ki you cannot network without coming to office. Corona ke waqt to Mera popat networking karta tha na office jaake
don’t want to spend too much and looking for good government colleges which provides good learning.
I was also lost post graduation not knowing what to do. Started working at no name firms but pushed myself (read destroyed personal life) till I reached where i am (i am still not as senior as i should be at my age).
Just grab what you can find and give it your all. You will learn and you will get noticed
I especially recommend from 5:20 onwards where it isn't the DTE reporter talking but the Professor from IIM-A's Centre for Management in Agriculture is speaking.
1. On average a farming household makes Rs. 10000 per month per acre.
2. Around nine-tenths of farmers hold less than 4 acres of land in the country. In monetary terms, around Rs. 40000 per month.
3. This amount is not available monthly as the money only comes in at the end of a crop cycle.
4. With an average crop cycle of 4 months, the majority of the farmers make Rs. 1,60,000.
5. This amount is not really ‘income.’ It is revenue generated.
6. Part of it is reinvested in procuring seeds for the next cycle.
7. Another part of it goes towards paying ‘farm help.’ This is needed, at a minimum, to quickly reap the crop upon ripening and get it to the market before any unseasonal rain destroys it. Usually, the ‘help’ is in form of extra hands. Sometimes, combine harvesting machines.
8. Another part of the revenue generated goes towards repaying loans on things like tractors or submersible pumps (needed to irrigate the crop). These are loans that are occasionally waived by governments. However, till they are we do end up accounting for them from our revenue.
9. Another part of the revenue is used towards getting pesticides needed to keep the crop healthy over the next cycle. These are ones that are subsidized. But, we do pay for the part which isn’t subsidized.
10. Having removed all these costs from the revenue of Rs. 1,60,000 for every 4 month cycle, we are left with the ‘income’. This is not a single person’s salary like the one you guys get. This is the household’s income. The Indian government pegs it at 4 people.
11. Ab woh 80000/90000 per 4 months for 4 people comes to an income of around Rs. 5000/6000 per person per month. Kya dein isme se?
12. Lathi khaane ke baad doctor ka kharach isi mein se nikalta hai.
13. Namak, cheeni aur tel si basic cheez bhi yahin se aati hai.
14. Gai bhains ka kharacha bhi yahin se. If we don’t keep and tend to them, then milk and milk products ki cost padti hai.
15. My parents saved so much out of this to send to university. Couldn’t go a NLU like most of you because we never had the means to pay for it.
Bahut mehnat se iss zindagi bahar nikaala hai parents ne kyunki koi future nahin hai. Aur aap mein kuch isse ‘best career option’ samajhte ho. Sharam karo ki apne desh ke kisaan aur kisaani ke baare mein itna kam malum aur itni choti soch rakhte ho.
Yes, people from NCR has that advantage and it maybe very possible for them. But not for people living in say, MP or Bihar .

2. Faizan's publication record isn't anything to brag about either. He mostly writes newspaper op eds and disseminates his views through his YouTube channel and interviews.
3. There is zero chance of the ten year rule getting waived for any public university in India at present. There will be immediate litigation. Even Sudhir had to qualify that, which he just did, courtesy MP Singh. You are just spouting random names now. Nemika is a great candidate simply because she topped her batch? She doesn't have any experience whatsoever as an admin anywhere. There are good candidates available if the search committee keeps an open mind, but they probably won't. It should ideally be someone who has studied or at least taught successfully at a good NLU.
I will subscribe
There is no bigger threat to our country - people who want to tear it apart from inside and target young souls to harvest
- pretty much every publication of his is co-authored either with his wife (Dipa Dube) or with one of his former PhD students at the IIT law school, such as Rajrupa Sinha Roy, Aparup Pakhira, Bhagwan Gawali etc.
- a large number of his publications are on subjects outside his domain of expertise (which is supposed to be corporate law)
- he has published in the US China Law Review, which has been exposed online as a scam journal
https://insightplus.mja.com.au/2020/48/i-published-a-fake-paper-in-a-peer-reviewed-journal/
- I cannot spot any well-regarded journal he has published in all by himself, and even the co-authored articles are not in top tier journals (Jindal Law Review is the only Scopus-listed one)

Based on the above, I think there are far better people who can be appointed. If the 10-year Professor bar is removed, then former NUJS profs like Prabhash Ranjan (SAU) or Vishwas Devaiah (BITS, ex-JGLS) can be chosen. Among NUJS alumni, Nemika Jha (JGLS) would be a great choice and she was also the gold medalist of the first batch.
If a TLC person has to be appointed and the 10-year professor rule followed, then Faizan Mustafa can be appointed. I am sure he will prefer NUJS to CNLU. He is also ideologically aligned with the current political dispensation in the state.
My boss is a great man unfortunately he has hired too many peeps at the junior level and as a result, the work that originally came my way is now being distributed further. I feel kinda guilty cos the pay is decent too.
How to get over this
Having the ability to become one and not wanting to become one are two very different things
