We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

Posting this here because human rights people like to dump on India and we see this echoed among law students. Yet they don’t reserve the same criticism for Pakistan. Also, Malala may be a Nobel Peace Prize owner and Greta may succeed her one day, but their posturing is one-sided.
SAM, KCO, CAM, Trilegal, AZB
L&L, Saraf, JSA, Indus
I've heard fresh Partners at Trilegal are paid 1.5 cr (including bonus) per annum, which would mean 2/3rds goes to just renting a house?
Wait till a 5-year long down-market hits. All those "invest and forget" and "buy the dip" post-2020 market hippies will be running to their banks again.
as you progress in your legal career if you choose to, you will realise that legal research often involves crystallising a legal principle, a nuance, which is unique to each factual matrix, and dissecting it into 4-5 manageable pieces which are watered down for kids and young lawyers such as yourself to go and google. what you are seeing right now, is a very small piece of the puzzle which someone more senior or smarter is looking at from a different, larger angle, and has employed you as a pair of hands to assist them in developing an argument. you find it simple - because it really is, and has deliberately been made so for your to be able to digest it.
if the legal senior told you the exact problem at hand, you would perhaps not be of much use at your experience. a good researcher understands the larger problem at hand - reads cases - thinks tangentially - tries to modify the proposition (or better still, forms his/ her own proposition) and keeps on repeating the process till a distilled, clean chain of legal logic comes to the fore - strung together by a list of 7-12 case laws, which complete the legal chain of reasoning.
don't think that legal research or legal reasoning is plain old google search, if that's the only thing you are being entrusted with, at this stage :)
do keep in mind that the latest crop of seniors and law firm partners were born/ have grown up with search engines around, and know what to expect from people who think that legal research is nothing but google search.
Please utilise your remaining colleage years efficiently. Try to focus on internships related to practice area you want to focus on. Most firms keep an eye on good interns so chances of you getting the offer are higher if you work sincerely and show hunger for work and learning. While interning, make sure that you focus on aspects such as attention to detail, legal research, drafting, presentation, etc. Generally, I don't see any issue and most likely you will land in a good law firm job.
Practice area: Carefully choose your practice areas and it's better if you focus on high demand practice areas like M&A, employment, litigation, etc. Other practice areas are banking, IPR, tax and so on. Read and read more. Learn about your practice area so you will be a way ahead by the graduate.
I see a lot of negativity about toxic culture of law firms on this forum. While there is no denying of fact that there are some toxic teams, there are a lot more advantages. Try to observe team culture while interning, talk to contacts and then join the firm. Law firms give you amazing work experience and is way better financially rewarding. Law firms jobs are usually fulfilling if you are ready to work hard. Some weekends will be working, but if you are focussed, it won't bother you much. You can always join corporate jobs later in your career, but it's not a wise idea to start your career with corporates - your learning will be limited.
Hope this helps. Once you start earning, invest in good stocks after proper fundamental research. :)
Hope this helps.All the best.
You have to work hard in both places, but in terms of alumni and placements SLS P is quite established so no issues there.

The stability of this NLU could be adjudicated by the fact that from its inception, there has been no change in the leadership of the NLU. Vijju's authority has not been challenged yet in the Executive Council. Perhaps in all other new NLUs, the VCs have jumped ship soon after it began its voyage. It would be correct to state that Santra Law University's captain never changed a fact distinguishable in comparison to other young NLUs(Please correct me if wrong). Nevertheless, not a bootlicker of the administration.
The salary issue is widely recognized. The campus only hosts students from the 2nd to 5th year of all batches on campus. There is no reported news reports on any mismanagement.
This seems to be a frustration of a person newly employed at Santra. Anyways, this is a genuine concern. But that should not be a concern of any prospective student at the university.
What are the big law firms in India??
if yes then tell me about the process a little bit if you can. I would have gone to GLC if it has good and confirm hostel. and as I can't afford Mumbai I can't take risk to lose my seat. and in gnlu I am relaxed because if i get scholarship it will cover me all.
Toppers always figure something out or work the hard way to score good marks but a good number of faculties are unpredictable and arbitrary in their marking. For the internal evaluations (constituting 50% of your grade), no one really bothers reading the submissions and the basis on which they're marked only they know.
What the director is up to most of the time, nobody really knows. He's practically a stranger to the students.
There is no student body here to voice the students' concerns as you see in other colleges, SAC, which in itself is a controversial body for abusing its privileges, has a limited role in organising student activities.
For the boys hostel, there are no surprise checks or anything and there's minimal supervision by the warden though it's also comparatively poorly maintained. Rooms are twin or triple sharing, quite tiny and the washrooms are common. Infrastructure outside of the administrative block (the fancy building you see up front when you google GNLU) is shabby.
Ragging has been a problem in the boys hostel and there's a disgusting culture of calling your seniors "sir/ma'am" though limited efforts have been made to punish the culprits, especially when the victims speak out (as they should). Not sure how different NLUJ is in this regard.
Choose wisely and ATB.
Ask yourself - what will you do with all that time on your hands. Unless you have a damn good answer, a more realistic option will be to talk to your firm and scale down your hours. Assuming here that you are working minimum 2000 billable hours a year.
Also, when you think of the alternative, visualize it thoroughly. Is it fulfilling? Does it give you purpose? A person of your skills will need intellectual stimulus.
- Mycroft Holmes: [concerning his therapist's belief that Watson's hand tremor is PTSD] Fire her. She's got it the wrong way around. You're under stress right now, and your hand is perfectly steady. You're not haunted by the war, Dr Watson... You miss it.
Where corruption thrives, and honesty died.
Money flows astray, funds astride,
Leaving faculty in despair, with none to guide.
Half-paid they stand, last month's decree,
From the registrar's pen, a bitter plea.
No shelter for newcomers, come June's decree,
In this neglected land, where apathy runs free.
VC speaks, in interviews' embrace,
Seeking escape from this desolate place.
Yet media's silence, in this grievous race,
Leaves cries unheard, in this troubled space.
Oh, MNLU Nagpur, in shadows you dwell,
Injustice rampant, like an echoing knell.

It's about finding balance between the ideals we hold dear and the practicalities of the profession. And perhaps, as professionals, we can strive to reshape the system to better reflect the principles we were taught.
However, my perspective has changed now. I have met some amazing people from the so-called 'Tier 2' NLUs and some grossly incompetent people from my own. I have learned one thing: which NLU you are from does not matter; what matters is that you work hard!
It wasn't that Admin did not give permission; the ADR Board never took serious steps to properly operationalize the NMC post 2016/17, nor did the SBA ever hold them to account. We have always been most supportive of all student initiatives; however, most of these initiatives fizzle out after the students who suggested them originally graduate.
A full guide please.
Dushyant Dave had his father as a judge at Gujarat HC, and got sr tag early
GS had Sorabjee, KKV and Venkatachaliah
But credit to them
We're lawyers.
The major reason for canceling NMC is that the admin is not happy with the Convenors of the ADR Board.
They give out dozens of assessment internships per year. And only to those students who have already interned with them before. So, they will also make you work 7 days a week and pull all-nighters for months. That too, unpaid. But they never really offer PPOs (max one per year). Thus, a hardworking student will end up wasting months of his time.
You can get the syndicate gc chat link from any incoming nlu student
So, the starting in-hand is around 1.47 per month.
Kian, it's time to share your insights from that period with our readers. They could benefit from understanding those events.
"51. An advocate may review Parliamentary Bills for a remuneration, edit legal text books at a salary, do press-vetting for newspapers, coach pupils for legal examination, set and examine question papers; and subject to the rules against advertising and full-time employment, engage in broadcasting, journalism, lecturing and teaching subjects, both legal and non-legal."

▮▮▮ threats to the PM/CM?
Well hundreds of not thousands of people give them every minute of the day.
But just because a woman raised her voice against your vile mysogynist behaviour, you decide to go after her with a troll army.
The price for acting dumb online shouldn’t be your entire career.
You make mistakes in your naïveté and youthful exuberance
@Kian: If you still read LI posts, I am flagging this as an official complaint against whichever moderator did this. That person should not be allowed to moderate posts without supervision.
What would be your suggestions?
Thank you
But NTD's and SS's team at AZB is too good. Not a banking and finance per se but they do a fair bit of structured finance
SLS Pune is no comparison to jindal.
You're forgetting that NLSIU has the most foreign collaborations and the best faculty out there
Jgls with 50% scholarship is tempting. You can leave gnlu, hnlu or nlu jodhpur for that. Not NLS or NALSAR.
