We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.

3. Assume the best intention of others.

Jgls with 50% scholarship is tempting. You can leave gnlu, hnlu or nlu jodhpur for that. Not NLS or NALSAR.
And the work itself seems very much clerical, which stunt growth of ideas within you. All this turns out totally opposite to the legal principles and ideas we study and progress through, in our law school journey. Am I the only one having this feeling and feeling disenchanted with the way things are?
Maybe it's not our education system not improving in accordance with the job market, but the job market conditions not getting better to match the idealistic standards of our education system?
Thoughts?
2. Betrayer of the Motherland (Grade II): Top-ish ranks with a lot of publications go to foreign university to do an LLM and then become a Grade I Betrayer;
3. Corporate Whore (Grade I): Medium ranks from top colleges and top ranks from medium colleges go to the large corporate law firms. Good pay (starting at approx a lakh a month), but hours are really painful till you become a senior associate. If you grunt it out and make SA, hours will reduce but work will almost always remain stressfull. You'll have to do your share of admin work, but routine stuff is handled by shared secretaries. There will be some flexibility in hours, you work late - you can come in a bit late the next day. You also get to interact with the so called corporate elite, if that is your fetish.
4. Corporate Whore (Grade II): Smaller law firms mean the hours are almost as crap as Grade I whores but you also have to do a lot more admin work and worse, a lot of PR work (as few ppl know your firm). Smaller firms also mean bigger egos rubbing against each other and a lot of office politics. Oh, and the pay is not that great.
5. Captive Corporate Whore: You get into the legal department of a company like infosys, mahindra or hp. You have one client only - your company. Pay varies according to company, but you will mostly earn less than Grade I whores. Work is boring, but the advantage is that the work hours are easy and is highly recommended for lazy people. Work environment varies according to the size of the legal team. Work hours not flexible in some companies.
6. Pauper: The real world. You go old school style into litigation. Remain a pauper for a decade, saying nothing but "Plaintiff seeks adjournment" in courts and then depending on your abilitiy, you either sink into oblivion or rise into a proper big shot lawyer who gets a lakh for making a 5 minute appearance. A lot of top ranks choose this if they have the flair for litigation.
7. Papa's Boy: Litigation, but your dad/mom/relative is already a big shot judge/lawyer - so you are not a pauper and your rise is smoother and faster.
8. Drone: Join an LPO - Legal Process Outsourcing unit - paralegal work: legal research and data entry. Pay will be terrible and there wont be much respect from within the legal community.
9. Sage: You dont give a shit about the money or glory. Do more LLMs, MPhils, write more papers. Go into teaching, writing, research.

Just because USA has better free speech does not mean they aren't intolerant in the extreme - try going to the 1920s till 1980s and try to convince the average public there about the benefits of communism - read on the red scare where even suspected sympathizers were purged
SAYS A RANDOM PERSON ON AN ANON FORUM!
If you really want a true picture why don't you ask some students/alumni of the institute?
BTW NLSIU is way better than JGLS, but don't take some anon's word for it, DYOR!!!

For three years they were not an issue but now suddenly because a mysogynist says so, hundreds of accounts have started commenting on it and giving it traction.
One of the accounts also said ki they will boycott the 'products' of the firm she works at.
Please thoda dimag rakh lo yaar
Also these awful people started posting pictures from her Instagram to Twitter saying how she is characterless. Bhai please stay at home. You add nothing to the society except actively bringing down the average intelligence of the country.
Even if there are valid questions about the direction that NLS is going, it still has a formidable brand name, and excellent staff and facilities. To add to this, most of the All-India toppers are still picking NLS.
Think about it for a moment- all of them also read Legally India. They have access to the same information you have. And by all accounts, they are delighted that they got into NLS.
Do you have good, concrete information that will prove 100 people wrong, and you right? There are a hundred other forums there. Go to Reddit. Go to FB. Go to Twitter.
If you're still jittery, just join. You don't just have a bird in hand, you have a golden goose. You can always drop out and go to a different law college after a year, if you're not convinced with Nagarbhavi.
Toh lawyer hoke kam se kam word play pe toh command rakhiye. And, no, these NLU/Law grads will also not give leadership to India. Neither they are in the majority in the Civil Services exam, nor in politics, nor in startups. Even Labour law advisor on Instagram is from IIT B.
Toh law superiority bubble se bahar nikal jao, bhala hoga.

Research aap karte nahi hai, aur NLS NLS chillate rehte hai. Here is ISB founders list. Do see their valuations and revenue.
1. Piyush Shah - InMobi.
2. HarshVardhan Lunia - Lendingkart
3. Rahul Garg - Moglix - unicorn
4. Umang Kumar, CarDekho.com
5. Aakash Chaudhry, Aakash Institutes
6. Mayank Kumar - upGrad
Yeh sab random executives lag rahe hai aapko? Abe nikal ja bahar apne law superiority bubble se. Dusre ko neecha dikhana chhod de bhai. And these are entrepreneurs. Apna Chamber kholne ka alawa product utariye market me aur bechiye phir kuch boliyega.
Also, for our viewers, give a list of IAS,IPS and IFS from NLS who have cracked UPSC CSE. Ab IRS mat jod dena. Aap likhe hai IAS, IPS, IFS. Just these 3 services. Phir total NLU se IAS, IPS, IFS ki bhi list daalo. Thoda hum bhi toh gine aur sharminda ho.

Rajdeep, Arnab, Ravish Kumar directly talk with the top leadership of BJP or Sangh or any ruling party. Elections on my plate series me direct Revanth Reddy ke ghar me nashta karta hai yeh. Top media people are extremely well-connected. It is their job, so nothing big for them.
He was offered an RS seat in 2012 by TMC which he declined. Search for how much an RS seat costs. It borders on ignorance to compare Rajdeep Sardesai or Ravish Kumar with a law firm partner.
Nikal jao law ke bubble se mere bhai. Law firm se bahut badi hai duniya. Law firm is a part of the game. It is not the only or the entire game. This overhyping of Law firms needs to be stopped. This is like the Bank PO coaching teacher who used overhype Bank PO and tell me - PO banoge toh sab bolega waah officer ban gye.
Abe acchi naukri hai, par, duniya isse bahut badi hai. Padh le Vision IAS ek baar.
NKC knows that it will be difficult to continue for a full second term. Depending on political and personal equations he will lobby to get an acolyte as his successor so that gravy train keeps running.

Is it the FIR or LCC Barasat effect? In 2018 a NBW was issued by a court in MP against a then Assistant Prof of Law. Lord Taluk quickly processed his lien request to MNLU Mumbai. Stayed out of state till the local police signaled him to return after a few years.

Better study BA/ BCom at good degree college say Xavier's in Mumbai and join LLB at NLS or GLC or aim CAT/MBA at IIMs etc.
My hopes for the future of NALSAR have fallen even further!
By the logic that alumni success determines the quality of institutions, GLC must be ranked above NLSIU, given its illustrious alumni list including Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Chief Justices H. J. Kania, P. N. Bhagwati, M. H. Kania, S. P. Bharucha, S. H. Kapadia, and U. U. Lalit, alongside Pratibha Patil, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, L. K. Advani, Piyush Goyal, Cyril Shroff, Shardul S. Shroff, and Homer Pithawalla.
However, no rational person ranks modern-day GLC as better than NLSIU.
Believe me, IIM I/L/K are better than NLSIU. Furthermore my experience working in cop law has also made be believe that IIM Mumbai (erstwhile National Institute of Industrial Engineering) XLRI, SJMSOM are also superior to NLSIU. Personally I would rank IIM Ranchi/NMIMS/VGSOM/MDI/IFT Delhi at par with NLSIU. All other IIMs/B-Schools are certainly inferior brand value wise.
Returning to the point, ISB is certainly more prestigious. Just consider its global rankings: 32nd by Financial Times (2022), 7th by Forbes (2019), 44th by Economist, and 17th by Poets and Quants worldwide. Meanwhile, NLSIU was ranked #201-250 in QS WUR, below even JGLS.
So, pursuing an MBA from ISB with an NLSIU degree is undoubtedly worthwhile.
Hope this clarifies things!
If your options are nls or Jgls - and youโre having trouble choosing - god help you.
I know the condition of Mumbai University and GLC has become so pathetic that genuine facts are classified trollish. I am not even offended..

A0 bills 10x Hours
SA rationalises it to 5x Hours
Partner bills to client for x Hours
Clients don't like to see 80% of hours put by A0s with obscene rates. On an average A0s produce revenue 2.5-3x their annual salary, not as high as 15x as your numbers say
Still early stages on enquiry though. You may want to ask yourself some questions, like:
What do I enjoy about the life experience. What is my idea of quality time.
What memories do I want others and myself to leave this life with.
It may take some time. When you know for sure, you can see it through. I am sure you will enjoy it thoroughly.
You always have the option of returning to your career if you want to.
Wishing you the best.

Amidst the sea of choices vast,
Where uncertainty grips steadfast,
Take heart, dear soul, and do not fret,
For in the journey, lies your bet.
Gather knowledge, let it bloom,
Illuminate your path from gloom.
In this maze of schools, don't be led astray,
But seek the one that lights your way.
No single "best," no golden rule,
But what aligns with dreams, the jewel.
So, with clarity and focus sharp,
Craft your future, let doubts depart.
Informed, deliberate, let your choice be,
A beacon bright, for you to see.
For in this journey, yours to claim,
Lies the key to your rightful fame.
it is worth it, if you clear it. otherwise not.
I'm quite doubtful about what both colleges have to offer and what should be my priority.
Freedom of speech and expression
Infrastructure: lack of proper maintenance causes the so-called infrastructural superiority of GNLU to be rundown. It is nothing like the photos on the website but they charge an exorbitant amount for maintenance and hostel fees. The food is terrible and inedible at times with the mess overrun by cockroaches. The tube lights in the hostel and the classrooms, 0.8, even where faculties Frequent are perpetually hanging down so as to fall off.
Administration and liberty: idk about the boys hostel but in the girls hostel, the warden Manisha and others barge in at midnight into your room with
security and goes through all your belongs at 1 or 2
in the morning whilst making snide comments.
You can't even approach the Registrar or faculty wardens or director to address the rudeness showed by the administrative staff because they just don't care about you. One of the faculty wardens, harsha, suggests that we don't like having the warden and security barge in at 2 in the morning since we have something to hide. As if, the cupboards are rusted, the beds creaky and loosely jointed, the draws of the desk never opening or closing and the rusted rickety chairs we get are capable of hiding stuff. Meanwhile, the University spends crores in constructing faculty lounges when student's keep asking the Administration to do something about the wildlife crisis on campus, snakes and langurs.
Activities: non existent since SAC was disbanded, moots are subpar with no proper guidelines to improve your memo, and co-curriculars are plain sad since the faculty and Administration gets involved in everything.
Placements and internship: thankfully, the internship amd placements are good since the faculty convenor of CRA, Nidhi Buch, is fantastic. She involves the students and is always open to suggestions.
My opinion would be for you to try to get into NLUJ. Don't waste your time, effort and hardworking in GNLU which is helmed by Shanthakumar and his gujarati masters.
So, yes. If you like chasing clients and keeping them happy and creating a market and meeting revenue and profit goals and haggling on price and then coming back and having other people actually deliver on your promises, then...
Wait, what?
"Mean" in the statistical sense. That is where you need to start, in terms of understanding about "the average lawyer".
Also, "Mean" in the linguistic sense. Like, "Did you mean to tell the world that you cannot understand the concept of outliers and/ or exceptions to the rule?"
Also, "mean" in the "nasty" sense. "I know someone who was a chaiwala and became PM. Does that mean that I should drop out of IIM and become a chaiwala if I want to be PM?"
Infrastructure: the photos on the website looks good. However, proper maintenance has not been done. So, rundown Infrastructure. It is not pwd friendly at all. Also, the rampant wildlife crisis in the hostel. Everyday it's a run away from langurs
Administration and liberty: idk about boys but here in the girls hostel, there are arbitrary midnight checks. The warden, Manisha and others along with security barge inside your rooms at 1 and 2 early in the morning and go through your desks and cupboards while making really snide
But first- where I do agree with you is that students should be exposed to more centre-right or RW thought. I am in favour of letting students understand where the counter arguments are coming from, and letting them make up their own minds.
Now, coming to your post. To begin with, you are falling into the classic right-wing trap of seeing the world in beautiful, simple binaries. "Left Bad, Right Good".
The real world is messy. Left-wing thought recognizes that, and understands that there is a tremendous amount of nuance and ... grey, everywhere.
No serious person goes around saying "capitalism is evil" or "Palestine is good, Israel is evil". (though you have a point about left-wing echo chambers and performative activism, which is sadly a thing).
Everyone on the left knows that there are good things about capitalism, that Palestine (or their leaders) have been at fault a lot, and that Israel has made genuine efforts to reconcile.
The point about having an opinion (or picking a wing) is that you weigh the opposing arguments, see which resonates more strongly with you, and then choose an ideology. Lets take one example. If someone claims to be left-wing, and supports identity-based reservations over merit-based reservations, I would expect them to, at the least, be able to explain:
- What problem is identity-based reservation trying to solve?
- Why can't merit-based admission solve that problem?
- Is there a balance to be struck? [In fact, our present admission system IS a balance between Merit and Identity].
- What are the problems with identity-based reservation?
- How can you address those problems?
- If you cannot address those problems, is that an acceptable flaw in the way you design the program? Will the benefits accrued by keeping that "flaw" outweigh the disadvantages that people will face if you remove that "flaw"?
As you will see, you need a solid grasp of RW arguments, in order to effectively build an LW case here.
Which brings me to my second point. I attended a Bangalore institute that has a very high opinion of itself. We covered many of the "left wing" topics that you have an issue with- socialism, welfare state, reservations, identity, and a lot more. In every one of those classes, these topics were heavily discussed, debated and challenged. There are flaws with every one of these topics, but what we did was learn the history of these concepts, why they evolved the way they did, what the alternatives were, what were the places that had tried these alternatives, and how a lot of these ideologies were the best available options, given that the others were worse.
There were people who advocated for what would be called a RW position. They were asked to defend their positions- and to explain the social and/ or economic costs of those, and how their positions would mitigate or exacerbate inequalities.
There were also people who took extreme left positions- and they were also challenged and debated. Some of these were faculty members, and the majority of the class openly disagreed with them, but with sound intellectual arguments.
Now, coming to your point about the RW not getting exposure. All that I can say is.. are you serious?
Palkhivala, Bhagwati and Friedman are all read and critiqued. I don't think anyone can argue that they are shut out or silenced. If they are, then I stand corrected, and agree that they should be part of the syllabus. Also, who told you that license raj and reservations are swept under the carpet? These are among the most debated topics during one's 5 years in college.
Libertarianism is one of those topics that should definitely be taught in colleges, because anyone who academically engages with it can identify it for the shallow lack of empathy it promotes. This way, we'll have less wannabe Twitter intellectuals proudly flaunting their libertarian cred.
Lets call it for what it is- no one is suppressing RW or CR ideology. Students get a healthy dose of all sides, and then decide to become LW or Centre-Left. In time, they may become law firm partners or GCs, but they remain anti-RW.
Mod โ whatโs your problem, man??? Why are you censoring the details.
Look around you, in the corridors of power, in the bustling courtrooms of our bustling metropolises. What do you see? The shining exemplars of matrimonial success, the so-called "power couples" of the legal realm. And mark my words, they didn't ascend to their lofty positions by disregarding the importance of these factors.
Now, let's talk brass tacks. If you are from a middle or lower caste, fear not, for there exists a path to parity. But make no mistake, it demands compensation. Your wallet must sing the praises of your worth, and your visage, well, let's just say it wouldn't hurt to be easy on the eyes.
But ah, for those of higher caste pedigree, the road may seem smoother, but it is not without its toll. Wealth, whether inherited or amassed, serves as a cushion against the harsh winds of societal scrutiny. But let's not discount the importance of presentation, for even the loftiest lineage can falter in the absence of refinement.
And what of character, you may ask? A fair question, but one that pales in comparison to the weight of the aforementioned factors. It's merely the icing on the cake, a delightful bonus if you will, but hardly a prerequisite for success in the game of love and ambition.
So here we stand, in the year 2024, in the crucible of Indian society. Take heed of my words, for they bear the truth of our reality. Embrace it or reject it, but make no mistake, it is the world in which we reside.
From an employment lawyer perspective it'll be interesting to see how this plays out. The firm through its retainer will obviously have the power to terminate at it's discretion but if she is fired, the reason would be obvious .
Atb โฎโฎโฎ HR and management
The first thing is that I had the benefit of graduating from a good college. The college name definitely helped in my case, so that may be a barrier for you.
Regarding interviews, note that I joined as a fresher and didnโt ask for a higher position. The interview was therefore a cakewalk since they didnโt expect me to know much about their field and focused on my previous work ex. Also your senior(s) likely will not be very aware of litigation, since in-house people generally jump from corporate. Litigation experience also helps you in the short term, especially if you display interest in the companyโs matters. Iโd advise you to read on the Companies Act, the Contract Act, and any other laws relevant to the field youโre joining. You can get better quality of work once you show you know your stuff.
Pay depends on what you can negotiate. Since I was being paid by litigation standards, I didnโt get much of a bump. But if you work hard and impress your team, things will look up. I am currently in line to be brought up to market standards, i.e. a several x increase.
Lastly, Iโd advise you not to join a contract management team or a big company and rather look for a company with a small legal team. Being part of a small team handling the entire companyโs legal requirements has definitely helped me get far more exposure than I would have gotten in a contract management team.
I am from NLUD, and here is the truth:
The placement was excellent for batch of 2022 and 2023, and this is a truth shared across law schools. But, placements for the batch of 2024 took a massive hit, initially that is. The Day Z was a bloodbath.
Shock, Panic, and Fear are the only words that can best describe the atmosphere on campus back then.
But, here is where the fact that it was NLUD and not any other college, matters. Bajpai (the swashbuckling VC lol who has some very good connections) and some other Professors took it upon themselves to get these kids placed. They pulled strings, had discussions with recruiters, and finally got more opportunities for more people in the batch of 2024.
The end result?
The damage wasn't as bad as people were expecting, but it wasn't anywhere close to the kind of placements people expect. Where does the blame lie? Mostly on the market conditions and some bit on the RCC of that batch.
But how are things looking now for the batch of 2025 and onwards?
Really good. NLUD has been making some great moves. In the past one month it has signed MoUs for exchanged, research, etc. with multiple foreign universities such as King's College London, University of Sydney, SOAS, etc. In fact, there is going to be a pathways program with SOAS which will let NLUD kids get entry into SOAS for an LLM right after the completion of their degree. Pretty sweet.
and the Rhodes and Jessup Nationals win just adds to the sweetness.
Big ups NLUD!
