1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

I was soon diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. After a few months, I was diagnosed with ADHD, PMDD and some other conditions.
I have come to realise that stress management is the ultimate key, but with Tier 1 pressures, itโs almost impossible to find time to lead a holistic life. Thereโs no way that an honest disclosure of these conditions to the firm will yield any good, in fact, they will want you to leave and create miserable work conditions.
Now in professional careers it's different because women lawyers/doctors etc. are/can be just as capable as their men counterparts or even more capable if i am being honest. but sports, i am not too sure. like i said, pls put forth your points. i am trying to understand feminism and i would love for you to clarify. mere ghar pe bhi behen beti maa hai and my dad has always treated my sister equally. thanks and have a great day to all powerful ladies of LI.
if it does not work, then seperately send an email to the edu agent and say that if they are unable to provide any relief then you shall pursue it at the consumer forum, all edu agents get a 10-20% commission on the fees that you have paid, so they would not like this lucrative business to get upset, most likley they will ask for out of court settlement, also at this stage put this on FB and twitter and tag in the higher edu min and basically cry out fraud and simple Indian student being hoodwinked by greedy European college
Iโm currently in talks with my doc about getting a hysterectomy ( side note:I am in my late 30s, single and don't have any kids, so its been tough to convince Indian doctors) and I hope to get back to my career goals, after my health is taken care of. I am sorry I canโt offer much helpful advice or insights, since I am still battling with this chronic illness.
But I will tell you to not stop fighting for what you want out of your life, a break is not the end of ur career. Do not settle for anything less than what you truly desire. I see my illness as just another challenge in my path, not everyone gets dealt the same cards, but its really about how you play your hand - the sooner you figure that bit out the easier life gets.
All that gyaan aside, I really do hope that your suffering ceases soon and you go on to achieve all your dreams. All the best!!!
Can anyone let me know:
1. How do I maximise my chances of getting a PPO/callback?
2. Is the team lazy in offering callbacks? Is it possible to get it in the next 2 months of the first internship getting over?
3. In general, how open is the team in offering PPOs and what all do they expect?
HR said me they collate the result at the end of every weekend. Because we get time of 5 days to appear for the test.
Hopefully Monday ๐ค
However, it might be different at higher PQEs
I received an offer from a college in Europe for their MSc program (1 year course 13000 EUR + 500 EUR deposit)last month for the January 2025 intake. I paid the deposit initially and paid the entire fees (which is required for the visa).
But then I landed a job that I liked.
So I emailed the college saying:
Due to some unforeseen circumstances that lead to personal commitments I have to cancel my admission , I wish to withdraw my admission to the master's program.I kindly request you to initiate the refund process of the course fees and also request your full cooperation. The uni rep in the admission team straight out replied that the fees is non refundable.
Now these are their terms and conditions for fees and cancellation:
# 5. Fees and Payment:
5.1 In consideration of the provision of the Services by the College (and, where applicable, __ Services), the Student will pay the fees set out in the Offer Letter at the applicable time. The Student will thereafter be liable to pay the College any other fees due to the College from time to time with respect to the Programme of which the Student will be given notice.
5.2 Fees will become due for payment on the date set out in the Offer Letter or on any other date specified by the College.
5.3 Where the duration of the Course is for more than one academic year or the Student elects to repeat the academic year, fees will be due to the College prior to the commencement of the academic year.
5.4 Fees are subject to change each academic year.
5.5 Should the Student pay by way of cheque and the cheque is subsequently dishonoured, the Student will be liable to pay the College a โฌ25 fee to cover administrative and bank charges.
5.6 If the Student does not make any payment due to the College or ___ Services by the date specified, the College or __ Services may charge interest to the Student on the overdue amount at the rate of 7% a year above the European Central Bank rate. This interest will accrue on a daily basis from the due date until the date of actual payment of the overdue amount, whether before or after judgment. The Student must pay the College or __ Services interest together with the overdue amount.
5.7 Subject to clause 5.7.4, if a student visa application has been refused, then the amounts paid, including deposits and unutilised fees, will be refunded less an administration charge of โฌ100 (plus any courier and transfer charges) on production of the following documents:
5.7.1 original copy of the visa refusal letter;
5.7.2 copy of the Studentโs passport showing both the photograph and signature; and
5.7.3 where the payer was not the Student, an original authority letter from the Student authorising the repayment to the payer.
5.7.4 Section 5.7 applies only to visa applications made outside EU and does not apply to International Students already resident in EU who are applying for renewal visas. For International Students already resident in EU, fees will not be refunded under any circumstances after commencement of the course. Where a visa is required to be renewed during a College Programme of study, it is the responsibility of the Student to confirm with the relevant authorities that the renewal application will be approved.
# 6. Cancellation and Deferral:
6.1 The Student may (unless studying on a student visa) no later than two weeks prior to the commencement of the Programme cancel his or her acceptance by providing the College with written notice. If the Student so cancels their study, the Studentโs liability to the College will be limited to payment to the College of a cancellation fee of โฌ100 which may be deducted from any applicable refund. Any refund made by the College will be made to the original payer. Full course fees will be payable if less than two weeksโ notice is given and no refund will be made in such circumstances. Refunds are not available of any amounts paid for study materials, where the materials have been supplied to the Student.
6.2 The Student may (unless studying on a student visa) defer enrolment in the Programme for one academic year, provided the College receives written notice at least two weeks prior to the Programme commencement date (the โDate of Defermentโ) and the Student pays a โฌ50 administrative fee. The fees or any deposit paid by the Student will not be refunded but will be carried forward to the following academic year. Should the College fees change between the Date of Deferment and the date of commencement of the following academic year the Student will be liable to the College for any additional amount due and must pay it before the commencement of such academic year.
6.3 Should the Student defer enrolment in the Programme as per Condition 6.2 and should the Programme not be continued by the College such following academic year, the Collegeโs liability to the Student will be limited to a refund of the applicable fees paid by the Student for the Programme less the โฌ50 administrative fee referred to above.
6.4 If the legally binding contract formed with the Student is not made in person with the Student at the Collegeโs premises (for example by exchange of e-mails), the Student shall have the right to cancel the contract if the Student gives notice of cancellation to the College within the fourteen calendar day period beginning on the day following the day on which the College received the Studentโs Offer/Acceptance Form and/or payment of any fees. If a Student exercises his or her right to cancel during this fourteen day period, he or she will receive a full refund of all amounts already paid by the Student less the cost of any services already performed by the College (or, where applicable __ Services) before the end of the fourteen day period. Specifically, where the Student has received any books or other materials as part of the Services, the Student must return and bear the cost of returning the books and materials to the following address:
PS: I recieved the offer on September 6th. But I paid the deposit a few days before that and I paid half the fees on october 4th and half on oct 7 2024 all via the education consultancy. I sent the cancellation mail yesterday and they said its non refundable. I explained in my reply mail that I am informing you well in advance before the commencement of the course in January 2025,admissions have yet not been closed for the program and none of the visa processing has been started yet. Now I am awaiting their reply.
Please can someone suggest a way out? The amount is not small that its negligible.
One takes actual efforts to get into.
super super helful.
a) you are on a stable career path at a T1 and you wish to take a break but also make it to the next rung, a foreign llm would be suitable
b) you want to join academia
except for the above two the only other further narrower avenue would be to shift to another jurisdiction, which has been discussed many times in this forum (prev work ex, suitable jursidiction, prior contact with future workplace)
llm does not in any way help with law practice in India unless you have a legacy
- batch of '24 desperately looking for a switch to lit from cap marks
These tactics are quite often especially when you are a junior and the opposite counsel is senior to you. Happened with me when I was an A1 and opposite counsel was their practice head. I didn't budge and later didn't accept the changes as well. However, I reported this immediately to my partner that this has happened on the call. He asked me if I shouted back, I said no and then he said "Don't worry, I will take care of it".
2. Very less, they almost never hire freshers.
3. Call the HR SPOC.
2. If you want to work with Magic Circle/ biglaw kinda firms, it's really difficult as an Indian tbh. They exclusively offer training roles to T1 law schools and laters are mostly from T1 firms + experiences. If suggest you work in Indian firms and make it to T1s and then lateral.
3. You could consider working for smaller law firms abroad. Simply mail and call HRs. Open websites etc. But you should have funds ready for visa etc.
Dubai is not cheap wtf.
"Even simpletons from villages go abroad these days"
Which villages do you live in bro? You should consider visiting villages for conferences for once.
A rejection is not usually on you, it could be not having vacancies or last minute changes. Law firm HR arent exactly very skilled at their jobs, and partners dont have time for this.
1. Appearance - You must make a good first impression. Groom yourself, hairstyle, lighting, dressing before the interview. Look at yourself in the camera and blur the backgrounds.
2. CV- You must be completely adept in interpreting each phrase in your CV, as if those assignments were done yesterday.
3. - Prepare standard HR questions
4. Speak clearly in the mic, and make sure the internet connection is good. Speak at a faster tone than usual and dont just read off of somewhere, make good expressions.
5. Be proficient in civil + criminal litigation contextual + ADR + recent news. Most general concepts should in at the tip of your fingers.
6. Learn to faff - You should lie about some skills but properly and without coming off as a liar
7. Always stress why you are an asset and how you improved on your weaknesses, this question is always asked, prepare beforehand with instances etc.
8. Provide references
9. Ask for assessment internships at the end of interviews if you feel they are not too interested in hiring
10. Always ask questions in the end of the interview so you seem interested. But not icky ones like work life balance.
11. Why corporate law - I hope you have an interesting answer for this.
12. Follow up with the HR and Partner after 24 hours of the interview or Monday (if Friday). Then after a week. Then after 2. Then take the hint.
13. Learn the art of following up politely after an interview. Dont irritate people and get blacklisted. Always ask for feedback and how you can improvise in the future. I know people getting second interviews on this basis.
14. Do NOT appear introverted or shy and stumble on words, that is a huge red flag in this profession. Just say you arent sure and move on.
15. Try to prolong the interview as much as you can and politely. I dont mean you ask the HR to do it, you should answer in details with reasons, precedents, examples, experiences, references
16. Always stress on drafting experience + speaking in courts.
17. Your English should be on point.
18. I hope you already know - You should research the partner + firm + deals recently in detail, and a LOT MUCH. You should reference that in your answers so they know you're exclusively interested with them.
19. These answers should be quick - Do you have other interviews? Ans- No. Do you have other internships lines up? Ans- No. Do you intend to pursue future education? Ans. No. Does working long hours bother you? Ans- No. Were you offered assessments elsewhere/ have you applied elsewhere?. Ans - No. Location issues?. Ans- No. Trainee Role/assessment before hiring? Ans. Sure
20. Dont negotiate salary etc, at the fresher level. Not that they would ask, but dont bring that topic to the table.
(Once you have a confirmation, you can speak to the HR and get things sorted later, not in front of the partner)
- BO' 2025, looking to apply.
They're good for nothing in these 3 years.
1. how is WalB in corp law
2. how did you reach there
3. is it hard for a lawyer to move abroad
4. how about salary and other perks ?
Stipend is provided.
So i am not willing to work in law firm for long time so is it good option to get into capital markets team in law firm and then swith to merchant banks as a cs i have more chance to get into it ?

However, you should consider following up after Diwali vacays
The pay levels are ancient at all levels too.
If you haven't been apprised, most teams in firms take on 10-15 interns, many times a month in T1 firms, and have no desire in hiring. Hiring has been at the all time low since a "decade", and in such times, the most objective criteria continues to be the batch rank.
Also your inference is wrong from my argument, as I didnt make a reductive conclusion, I only said its way harder. Yes, with contacts and good luck with applications and the right team and exposure, sure, but generally, it is the case that people with middling to lower ranks do not make the cut, and it is almost always the case with most law firms that shortlists are prepared based on batch ranks and GPAs and the college giving you that. This includes PPOs. Internship feedback is disregarded by partners in many firms, especially in present times.
Bro most people in India dont make 1 lakh a year.. Humble yourself.
I hate that he spent any time at all thinking about this or thinking this was worthwhile to do. And I hate that this was then someoneโs job to commission design and execute this, that taxpayer money went to this, and now journalists who should report on more important things are now spending time talking about how a statue doesnโt look good. Talk about a waste of time. And the hollowness of this kind of gesture.
HSA Mumbai is not known much so try getting in the delhi office.
PPO scene is that because they have less work, they are not looking for hiring plus the partner says that he some mandate to hire few peeps from some top nlus
