Agree. Faizan's NALSAR background make him acceptable to students, while his religious background and anti-BJP positions make him acceptable to the TMC. However, Faizan's track record suggests he is honest and has not indulged in corruption. He also invited NALSAR alumni to get more involved with the institution and personally wrote emails to alumni. Will TMC want such a person? Wouldn't they like a ▮▮▮ puppet who keeps alumni out?

NISM Mumbai has brought back it's flagship one-year LLM in securities laws and cap marks after a one-year discontinuation. It has produced some great placements in the past and NIMS is considered as the gold-standard institute when it comes to studies in securities market.Can anyone shed light on the same in terms of market value, academics, exposure and average /highest package. The closure of the course in 2024 prompted me take up job in cap marks and have been working for almost an yer now. Would it be worth to take up the course now??

A&O and other magic circle law firms have been using it for a few years now. They haven't seen any hiring freeze. What AI will do is cut down the time for deals. The deal that took 6months, will get done in 3months. Court cases will start moving faster. The need for junior lawyers will not go away.

It is true that the TD team or anyone else in team ATU is either better or extremely good in comparison with that other team. If anyone tries to list down the “actual” issues with that other team then those comments won’t be posted by LI. May be that other team does what it does intentionally or they genuinely do not know how to run a deal or how to deal with team members or peers. This is a genuine comment and not an attempt to malign anyone but to save young lawyers and their morales and confidence.

Dont be enamoured. I lost interest in this supposed “job opportunity” after reading that I cant do my own matters and build a practice along the way. He basically wants you to live on his 1L per month while be will charges tens of lakhs for just a few hours in ONE DAY. Let that sink in, guys! Waiting for the day when AI decimates such oligarchy. ***k this slavery.

Justice Datta has become very pro-establishment. He has learnt from his humiliation while hearing the Sagar Ghosh matter. Similarly, Bikash Bhattacharya is constantly being attacked for taking a stand against the state's rampant corruption. So I do not expect Justice Datta to take a stance in this matter. When, as a society, we have failed to stand up to browbeating by the government, we should not have any expectations from the judges.

This is why I keep saying the next VC appointment is not a done deal and the TMC may not have its way, so the students need to be proactive and pressure the admin. Go on strike if necessary to protest the delay in appointment, which is clear being done because the TMC fears DD.

This is 100 percent true. I used to feel depressed and get a lot of mood swings. Literally ever day. Social media really triggers this. The algorithm is such that you inevitably come across content that makes you sad or angry. Even if you start watching something very simple, like a cricket video or music video, spend an hour or two and you will eventually be scrolling through negative content.

Now, I severely limited my use. Instead, I read two novels over the course of a month. Honestly, I just felt so much better and positive. Never once had negative emotions. Then I paused and returned to heavy smartphone use. Back to square one. Then back to reading books. Cured again. Also doing exercise helps.

You don’t need to visit a counsellor. Just stop smartphone addiction and you will stop feeling depressed.

I've decided to pursue law and I'm confused about which collge to choose. I'm a first generation and any lawyer I talk to has very different opnions. Some say Jindal is the better than tier 2 nlu like NUALS as the exposure is like nothing else and teachers are very good. But a lot are saying the drug culture is really bad and placement rates are very bad. But there is no clarity online as everyone just talks about the money.

Please help me out about how the placements are if you're willing to work hard and sit for placements.

After law school I worked at an advocate's chamber for 2 years dealing with litigation and real estate matters and thereafter I pursued LLM from an Indian University specializing in corporate law and started working at a tier 3 law firm. Do I get any benefit in promotions as I have a master's degree in hand?

Brand value is decent, but not as good as a tier 1 MBA. MBB pays people more than law firms; they start higher, and increments are steeper. Additionally, exits also pay better. There are more exit opportunities for MBA grads. Goldman-esque IBs, not to forget PE and VC firms, pay even higher. So yes, earning post-MBA is higher than post law. But the MBA space is a lot more competitive. Law firms pay is good enough that for most lawyers it will not make sense to do MBA to improve pay.

it's not a great place to work anymore, quite unprofessional and there's a reason everyone from fresher to partner level left within 1 year. there are no systems in place, and a lot of personal bias and favouritism at play. some people were given very elaborate gifts (off the record).

This is exactly what seperates successful or even bare competent lawyers from the runt of the litter. It's far too late for you since you wasted a lot of time that you could be using to learn basic skills and intern. Law is not for people like you, prepare for some exam frankly.

I align with the boutique law firm concept because the Indian law firm market is changing and they all of them are not really Lala. Especially the one spoken about her, Triumvir law. Young leadership, quality work - seems to be a good environment to grow. I know someone from a tier 1 law school, who gave up an t1 offer to join Triumvir.

Hello. You have to keep in mind no firm expects you to join as a partner straight out of law school, your actual training in the field you want to pursue only begins once you start working. Therefore don't be too intimidated by your peers who seem to be more knowledgeable or informed, because while yes it is commendable, it doesn't impact your hiring chances that much. What matters the most is your performance and attitude during the internship. Consistently put in the best quality work you can - this is not about skill in most corp teams, it is just sweat and effort. Show your team that you can learn from them and work well with them. The rest is a bit of luck yes, but you can alleviate luck by just doing your best. Don't get too intimidated by all these things, best of luck!

They are. But depends on how firms have structured the team. Where big firms have predominant banking and NBFC clients, Fintech will sit with B&F teams. At other places, where the firm's (or a team's) reputation is to do cutting edge work, fintechs typically are served by TMT teams, as in many cases fintechs help in the tech layer without directly being subject to RBI/SEBI/IRDAI regs.

1. First off, congratulations! You are going to a pretty good law school. Maybe practice reading books generally, as much as you can. Not necessarily law, politics, history, philosophy or whatever, even fiction should do. But keep up a reading habit! You very rarely are gonna get a time like this in your life again - maybe the only next occasion might be several years later, if you are good enough and lucky enough to secure a PPO before/during your final year, and you have those last few months of law school to relax in, knowing your job's secure. But there are many long and difficult years ahead, before that second (not guaranteed) happy phase of relaxation. This one has fallen into your lap, use it! Do whatever pleases you - playing a musical instrument, learning a new language... it really doesn't matter. Oh but obviously, if you are at school still, focus for a few months on your final school exams. It would be a shame to mess those up, now, wouldn't it?

2 and 3. Plenty of time for all that later. In fact, at this stage, I'd rather you didn't get into that too much. For one thing, you'll be straining your brain at a time when you should give it a well-deserved chance to relax; for another, you might misunderstand stuff, and unlearning stuff is much harder than learning it fresh. One thing you could usefully occupy yourself with, however, is building a skill foreign law firms tend to call 'commercial awareness' or 'commercial acumen' (they mean the same thing). That is, a high level of awareness of how the market operates, the factors that impact a business's performance and a law firm's place within the market (as a business). You are already reading newspapers, that's good. Maybe start reading some good financial/economics newspapers, if you can (Economic Times, Financial Times, for example). Again, not something that you need to do now or something that would destroy your life chances if you didn't do it now (as there's plenty of time to properly develop it), but useful to get started early. If you are ever actually thinking of a law firm career outside India - particularly in London - you might, at some point, want to pick up this book: All You Need to Know About the City, by Christopher Stoakes. Explains how the market works very well. Dead useful. It may seem more like a finance bros type of book, but trust me, it's as important for commercial lawyers, at least, to be good at talking about finance as it is for them to know anything else - and foreign law firms tend to look for that kind of knowledge.

4. Please do start playing tennis again, if that is what pleases you. Don't necessarily do it with any specific aim in mind, however, especially if you are looking for internships or law firm jobs in India. It won't help you. However, if you are looking to apply for something like the Rhodes Scholarship, which expressly puts value on sporting achievements, then go into tennis with all twenty-four guns blazing and horns blaring, spare no effort.

5. Really can't think of anything else. Maybe get yourself a good, new laptop?

A M Singhvi is a MP u can check his ITR from public portal it was around 100-130cr half a decade back. He has heavy investments in multiple asset class, Recent ITR says earning is around 300cr 2024 but most of that is form return form Bond, debentures, Stakes he has taken privately in different companies.

Mukul Rohatgi 22cr a decade back. Not sure if income will become 10 fold in 10years but 50-60cr easily.
