To the best of my knowledge, all Hindus from Punjab, Kashmir, Kerala, Bengal, Odisha and Assam traditionally eat non-veg, even Brahmins. In other states, only lower caste Hindus are traditionally non-veg. Nah dude, you're judging ts way too early. We have plenty of alumni who have pursued International Human Rights Law, dozens of them opting to do international human rights focused LLM programs (like for example, from SOAS) later on. Plenty of people currently within the college too, are interested in the field. It is ultimately your decision to stick to the college if you wish. But I can bet you've not even met a quarter of people here. Increase your sample size.

It is equivalent to T1s after you complete 1 year, that is, A1 onwards when you start getting bill share. A0 is 15.7 L (which was market standard till last year but then everyone really bumped up the bands)

In a good team (competition/ b&f/ top corp) an associate will easily bill 60-80 lakhs (realised). This comes out to 4-6 lakhs of bill share in a year.

Taking the lower end at 4 lakhs, an A1 compensation comes out as:

14.4L (fixed) + 4L (bill share) + 3.5L (bonus) = 22L

Contrast this with SAM/CAM/AZB which pay A1s between 21-23L, this is bang in middle.

Any money you make over and above the assumed 4L bill share will take you way above market standards. Know at least a couple of A1s last year who made 8/9L in bill share. You decide if that is market standard.

Now some people will still come and cry that bill share is a scam, for that reason I would like to clarify that low billing teams/disputes teams would probably see a bill share of 1/2L. So tread with caution.

After Sikkim NLU, I demand one each for Andaman & Nicobar, Ladakh & Leh, and all remaining states and union territories too. Bigger states like UP, MP and Maharashtra etc must set up 5 NLUs each if not more. Existing NLUs like NLS Bangalore must increase its BALLB seats to 500 and add BComLLB and BTech LLB too with equal intake.

In the future if we throw a stone anywhere in India it must fall on an NLU student.

In less than a month, you realised that people who would teach you over the next few years are all mediocre or bad, despite having almost no legal knowledge yourself? Much wow. What amazing treatise have you read about international human rights law that makes you an expert? Don't go elsewhere with that attitude either, you're unlikely to find anywhere great enough for your esteemed academic luminescence.

I would definitely pick NLUJ over NUJS anyday given how the latter has been faring in the past 5 years. Opportunities wise, all top 5 NLUs are very similar - faculty is great only at NLS now so that isn't a metric to go by. NLUD and NLS definitely have the city advantage that others like Kolkata, Jodhpur and Gandhinagar do not.

Getting back to law won't be difficult, with the easier route being litigation. However, as you have mentioned, they pay you peanuts and look down upon you as if they are doing a great favour paying a junior. So yeah, it was tough for me and therefore on my side also, search goes on for finding alternatives. Even I also dream on some days of working in a cozy job. But the same thought also hits me, that these jobs can never let you challenge yourself and you might be left hanging when one day your organization dumps you due to XYZ reasons. One thing is clear, as lawyer you can always try to do various exercises and make money out of it. Litigate, teach, work as researcher, draft a lot of stuff, open up for some independent work like sending legal notice. Of course the money will be way less than one could make in a fixed job. But I guess such multitasking prepares you for later shocks in the life.

Finished my internship recently and can confirm this... There's absolutely no work to be done there. They have seperated the interns from the associates in a small dark room in the corner and cant be bothered with them. You will go days without seeing an associate, much less a partner. Avoid guragon office at all cost.

It's a state university. Tum NLU wale sach mei Ulooos ho. NLU were, are and will remain state universities. Have you seen a pm or Prez attend a state university ever in your life ? Also Gandhinagar has IIT, NFSU and Maritime University, those are getting more funds than all NLUs combined. Stop running after State universities.

As someone who is pursuing a PhD in CILS from JNU, I'll suggest some pointers that may assist you. I wish I knew these before or someone had helped me.

1. Any Tier-1 NLU is great. Don't get caught up in this rat race. The tier system is majorly for corporate placements which you do not want. So don't focus much on them. However focus on your CV, and you'll see plenty of examples of tier 2 and even tier 3 students doing well, since they leveraged the NLU tag more. Use your NLU tag.

2. If you are genuinely interested in IHRL, my suggestion is everything in the next 5 years should be geared towards it, right from your internships to your publications. Focus on working with Indian HR related advocates, NGOs, commissions etc. Later on try to leverage this into International HR related organisations in India like UN and ICRC etc.

3. Focus on academics. Have perfect grades, do moots, do muns, do debates, do adrs. Be at the top. And please keep a clean record. Also focus on IL related opportunities.

4. Now comes the part i wish i knew...it's tough but you got this...please...please...please..do your higher education abroad. If you've done the above-mentioned, it won't be difficult to get into an LLM abroad. If I was given a chance I would aim for Netherlands, especially Leiden University since they're the best especially with international law subjects, also easy to get into compared to the US or UK. From today onwards track and tag out everything; the fees, the scholarships, the selection process, the opportunities etc.

5. Once you do your LLM from abroad, getting a PhD becomes easier if you can bag an opportunity to work abroad as well. I know it's tough. But the connections that you establish there will help you.

6. The only IL related university that has a somewhat global recognition in IL and related field is JNU or Jindal. Jindal is more show and pomp. JNU is tough to get into, and is mostly geared towards PhD. If you want to work in India, then definitely join JNU for PhD. But please do a masters abroad.

7. Anything international in India is unfortunately not at par with the global standards. Not one NLU has a decent IL faculty, not one NLU provides decent connections that a LLM abroad can give you. Even JNU is spoken because of it's overall reputation, and even that's limited to the PhD programs.

The relationship between US BigLaw firms, top law schools (called T14) and Junior Associates is not similar to India. Students and interns are treated like kings till they join. Nevertheless if you talk $hit about your firm’s big and powerful clients you will be shown the door anywhere.

Hi, I'm a part of the incoming BO'30 at NLU Jodhpur. While I'm relatively happy with the general trajectory of the college (from what I can perceive), I often find myself questioning the suitability of the college to my career of choice. I am personally rather interested in international human rights law, and wish to get into the field of academia (which would mean eventually pursuing an LLM, a PhD and so on). I am rather sure of my interests and while people do say that one should take time and explore interests in law school, I believe I am reasonably certain of the path I wish to take. From what I've heard, NLUJ is rather corporate oriented, and there is a general lack of focus on strictly academic pursuits. The faculty seems to be mediocre, and at times downright bad, and a lot of these factors combined make me believe NLUJ as a college might not be the best fit for my chosen career. Jodhpur being a somewhat remote location would also probably lessen the number of guest lectures/seminars and other such events that would help in my academic pursuits. There are a lot more points I would like to highlight, but I feel like it would be much too tangential.

My question, overall, is whether I should move forward with NLU Jodhpur and accept it as my college for the next 5 years, or should I think about moving, perhaps to NUJS or any other tier 1 NLU? Or should I take a partial drop from this college? Advice would be much appreciated.

If you were a lawyer doing brainwork over 10 hours earlier then you should not worry you'll be replaced anytime soon. Maybe a decade later? Maybe yes but unlikely a full replacement. AI in how this website understands it would then end up replacing everyone because why do you need a political elect when the best algo can decide the correct answer without human complications? I want advice related to my carrier trajectory. So, I am a recent graduate of Batch (2025) Non NLU starting out with an In house role. Such a stupid remark, probably made by a law student. 'Literally' every Indian spends their ANNUAL salary on a vehicle? People working in TCS/Wipro who earn 5-6 LPA spend it all to buy a hatchback? I've seen senior partners in T1s in Bombay come by very modest vehicles and even cabs on a regular basis. Indians are smart/hardworking, they go abroad, work, make money and send it back "home". I am the cusp of hiring some people, and starting an office, and I want my office to be top notch for my colleagues, in terms of comforts, facilities - which will increase productivity.

I have worked at various places across the years. My most favorite office was the Ballard Estate offices of Bharucha & Partners. The office had a very unique - closed office type layout. A room or two for a team, some rooms had 3 associates only. Sufficient desk space, outlets, fans, lights, and other desk ornaments like a card holder, mugs. However, their chairs at that time were very lacking. Given the physical separation between rooms, it used to be fairly quiet and gave a good sense of privacy and focus. Did my best focused work there. The office also had good infrastructure - sepoys, pantry staff, housekeeping staff and very robust reception and secretaries. I think the office was previously occupied by TTA, who had furnished the office, on the same model as some UK firm. If I could afford that office, I would rent it right now in the blink of an eye!

Worst firms I have worked at, all had open office cubicle type layouts, they're loud, distracting, bright, cold, impersonal. And of course uncomfortable. All the fixed type desk places all get their desk heights wrong. That's an art in itself or a science in carpentry. (I am looking at you Lower Parel!) And the lack of space!!!!

So guys, please describe a comfortable, productive office for you!!! It could be anything! Warm Lights, fast printers, folders, stationery, pantry! anything!! Please do tell!!!
