I was also hoping to intern at CJLS in my first sem. would you have any other internship recommendations that would be pertinent to my area of interest?

Can someone help with finding a good senior in Madhya Pradesh HC. Merit oriented and integrity. As opposed to the OP and comments therein, I think parent HCs are highly politicised where practice for 1st Gen lawyer is equally difficult as is in Delhi where judicial structure is more competent.

In major matters before the Supreme Court, NCLT, APTEL and other forums, the typical structure involves an on-record office or law firm handling procedural filings, and a Senior Counsel (sometimes more than one) who leads the arguments in court. Clients are generally prepared to engage and pay for both these components. However, there exists a category of lawyers who are neither designated Seniors nor part of the on-record filing team, yet they play an important role as lead briefing counsel.

Do law firms engage such counsels who are not into filing work, but aren't designated too?

Honestly, most people here are clueless about how the market is right now. Everyone’s getting work. Why else do you think firms like ELP and others who barely had a proper practice in this space are suddenly setting one up? People love to believe that only YA, ML, and PG of the Amarchands are getting all the deals. Reality check — most firms are landing mandates.

Sure, SAM, CAM, and Khaitan are at the top when it comes to pricing. But for some reason, S&R is way more hyped here than what’s actually happening on the ground. They and TTA (because of size) work on fewer deals, but almost every mandate they get is solid. That said, their peak volume isn’t as crazy as SAM, CAM, or KCo.

Trilegal comes in right after these. Their mandates are comparatively cheaper, but they’re still quite active. Their market reputation isn’t as good but it’s still decent to get regular work. Also, with the recent CAM Bangalore additions, they’ve strengthened further. The fact their other practice areas aren’t as dominant as SAM, CAM, or Khaitan means they miss out on many company counsel mandates. Also look at the number of partner they have RC (with MZ), VP (with VS), AM, BP (with AT and BB). Unless they get work so many partners is completely unsustainable. JSA is a step below these firms in terms of volume and profile. AZB is unique. Their corporate practice is so strong that they consistently get high-quality work. Deal volume-wise, they might not hit the same numbers as the top tier, but they’re still a regular on premium mandates.

It never was and never will be as good or as meritorious as the top 3 NLUs. Look ant the CLAT ranks of the folks joining GLC. Literally always 4 digits or more. Amazing internship culture? Lol, that’s only because you don’t do any actual studies of the law there. And don’t act as if the majority of GLC alums are not well-connected enough to start with. The college has a brand just like how Syndenham, etc. did. It’s a 19th century brand, and it’s only surviving because its alums perpetuate nepotism in hiring while promoting mediocrity.

Get a therapist and go to root cause of anxiety. Use time to build health - mental (yoga/breathing technique/chanting/support group - not a cult though), physical (as some kid once passed away in kco), emotional (find peace), sexual (get some - and make sure you don't get honeytrapped later), and spiritual (not the capital G - just something to get your energy levels up).

Ask your great connection about nature of job - day to day - visualize, not just the technical aspects (practice) but also the team structure and daily requirements.

Bill share essentially means you get 6-8% of the revenue you brought in to the firm.

And how much amount you bill honestly depends on the partner you are under. There are some teams - M&A, PE, competition, etc, where the rates are on the higher side (especially foreign ones) and that translates to a sizeable amount on top of your fixed + whatever meagre bonus that they pay you. Compared to other T1 firms, the amount may come up to close to what is paid in other firms and in some high billing teams, might even exceed. But the catch is the client has to pay on time. Often invoices are pending and takes a lot of time of it to be cleared. So overall it's not a huge amount, but enough to cover the lower fixed and bonus that you get compared to most t1s, that is if you are in a team that bills good.

For context, as an A1, i made north of 22 LPA last FY.

What's the pay like at different levels in AoR firms (Karanjawala & Co., Aggarwala & Co. , P.H. Parekh & Co.)?

Also, how difficult is it to get in without any contacts for a first gen lawyer not from Delhi? Are there waiting periods?

And, do they allow associates to take up independent cases while working at the office?

As a GLC alum. I really wish I had enough political clout to turn the institution around. It really can be glorious institute like no other law college in the country. We’ve had chief ministers/president/CJI etc as alums but not one has taken upon themselves to turn the college around. It should be made autonomous. The college has amazing internship culture which should be given more support.

Ohh, I wish I could take the college back to its glory days! If I ever reach to a level where I have enough political clout, I would make it my life’s goal to turn this institution around, provided it survives the ▮▮▮ administration till then.

You tier -1 folks guys think your place is bad, toxic colleagues, horrible bosses, terrible work hours. You got nothing on my previous firm. I'll give a few descriptions-

1. No laptops by office. Either get your own or buy if you want to work

2. punch-in and punch-out systems are only usually in morning and evening right? Ours were everytime you left office, for any reason.

3. 20 - odd ppl stuffed in an office meant for max 8 people

4. People quitting quicker than you can spell the word "attrition". No wonder team used to be anewed every month

5. Run by a single partner who's sole aim in life is to make money, be it at the cost of anyone. Keeping the lion's share of bill and throwing scraps to associates

6. You wouldn't get more than 2 leaves per months, no matter any issue. If you wish to, prepare to get humiliated roughly.

7. You would not get re-imbursement for any intra-city travels you make, and be thankful if you get full reimbursement for any client -related travels you make later on.

8. Pay cuts ever few months, for any weird-ass reason u can think of, be it a few thousand rupees or straight salary slash.

Note that this firm was ranked in global league tables, alongside KCO, CAM, Trilegal etc. Now go figure.

For long term interns/paralegals, not exactly sure but its either fixed (if you've come through college placement cell) or might be dependent on performance.

In either case, the stipend isn't anything to write home about. Your cost of living in Mumbai (if you're from outstation) will far exceed any stipend they give lol.

And dont poorer disabled people who do not buy mercs for themselves live in houses across the country? It might have been more accurate to say he had not found something that was disabled friendly that was to his taste/ status. But there are certainly houses that are disabled friendly that he could have afforded.
