See, they how faculties from top institutions of the world. The expectation there is different- yeah one semester, 2 or 3 classes a week and you're done. You can devote more time for other things. In India, NLS offers the best on paper- just 6 hours of teaching in a week plus 2 hours of office hours + meetings and institutional work. Compared to other uni in India, it's not much. But the expectation is to give your best and when you compare it to best of the world, it seems bad.

I'm entering my third year of law school and have found myself at a crossroads. Initially, my profile was more dispute resolution-oriented, but over the past few months I've deliberately shifted towards technology law and data privacy because that's where my genuine interest lies. I've been pursuing relevant certifications, writing on the DPDP Act, and applying for technology/privacy-focused internships.

However, many of my batchmates have already interned at firms like Dhir & Dhir, Dua Associates, Hammurabi, Khurana & Khurana, etc. While I know everyone's journey is different, it's made me wonder whether I'm putting myself at a disadvantage by not focusing on more traditional law firm internships.

My long-term goal is not to build a career at a law firm. I'm more interested in data privacy roles, particularly in-house or with organisations like EY, Deloitte, or similar consulting firms. My current plan is to gain one or two strong law firm internships (preferably in technology law/privacy) and then focus primarily on in-house or consulting internships aligned with data privacy.

For those working in technology law, data privacy, or in-house legal roles, does this seem like a coherent path? Or would you recommend spending more time building a traditional law firm profile first?
