NLSIU Bangalore defeated GLC Mumbai to win the 2013 edition of the Jessup South India Rounds last weekend, also going on to win the best memorial award with Raag Yadava bagging the best overall speaker citation.
NLSIU earned a massive 40 MPL points from the competition, further strengthening its position at the top of the MPL 4 table.
NLSIU now looks all set to dominate the table for the rest of this season of the Mooting Premier League (MPL) sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills.

The runner-up team from GLC Mumbai will also be going for the Jessup world rounds, to be held on 31 March - 6 April in Washington DC. The college climbed to 10th place from 14th in the MPL after earning 10 points.
SVKM’s Pravin Gandhi College of Law Mumbai and Nalsar Hyderabad lost out in the semi-finals.
SVKM’s Pravin Gandhi College of Law, Mumbai, moved from 22nd to 18th place and Nalsar moved up from 8th to 7th after both colleges earned 5 points each from this competition.
One judge in the preliminary rounds told Legally India that NLSIU was “quite impressive”, although the “level of questioning” was not very high. “The judges were to blame. Some I thought hadn't read the problem at all which meant they made decisions without asking questions,” he said.
This year’s competition was held at Nuals Kochi on Sunday 27 January.
Coming up next in the MPL:
1. GNLU International Moot : 6th to 10th Feb
2. DM Harish Moot : 7th to 10th Feb
3. KLA Moot : 7th to 9th Feb
4. ICC Moot, Paris : 8th to 13th Feb
International law firm Herbert Smith is sponsoring the Mooting Premier League (MPL) and will contribute a prize pool of Rs 60,000 for the top three winning colleges.

Does the bare act of saying NALSAR and whatever is the name of your law school in what sentence give you such thrills that you ooze comments on LI?
Congrats Akiku! Good to know that you understand English! Please let us know if there are any other languages you know. Such an intelligent soul!!
Having a bad season? As simple as that. One of the better mooting batch is passing out and the void is yet to be filled. Happened with NLU-J after their first two batches went out and to NLIU-Bhopal once the era of the two Priyadarshini's went by.
1) Leiden Sarin Air Law Moot
2) Susan J Ferrel Intercultural Human Rights Moot
Only the international rounds of the Leiden Sarin Air Law Moot are there in the MPL (Tier 5), the India rounds don't get much participation, at last count it was roughly 8 teams.
The Susan J Ferrel Intercultural Human Rights Moot also gets very little participation from Indian teams, however Team MPL will definitely consider adding it to the MPL if we can confirm that more than 4 Indian teams participated this time.
The point of 'poor' judging is being raised by a person who judged this competition! Where does the statement of NALSAR raising that point comes?
The efforts of NUALS are to be appreciated since they have followed the instructions in letter and spirit.
So, the Winners deserve and Losers deserve to accept the Winners.
Absolutely well said. Its very true that Mr. Ashwani Kumar and Mr. V.Niranjan are two of the brightest Judges who judged the Jessup South Rounds. It was truly an exhilarating contest when judged by them..
Whoever you are, chill! It's not about NUALS. For a fact, the problem with judging is true. Unless we accept it and find a solution, we will be undermining the efforts of a lot of students who work very hard for such moots. There were undoubtedly a few titans as you've noted, but a majority of them in the prelims lacked the required expertise in International Law. So, the point is simple. While we did a wonderful job hosting the moot, say in the hospitality, transport etc sectors, we are to definitely put an extra effort in inviting competent judges who are adept at International Law, all the more for a moot like Jessup. And if we don't, it's disrespectful to the teams, organizers and the moot as a whole. Surana has a lot of thinking to do! And for me, accepting this only makes us pragmatic; not taking away any credit from us..
Two very good teams met, one lost. Simple.
India should bring in power-seeding the knock-rounds of the competition, as they are in the International rounds, so as to guard against this.
