Given the above, we are trying to highlight the positive.
If students of the older nationals wish to indulge in mudslinging against each other it is understandable. But new law schools too will hopefully start to come up in time and this seemed like a solid start.
Best regards
Kian
remember the dialog frm movie Robin Hood, " Rise and Rise until the lambs become lion"
Just a different take...nevertheless Kian I echo you thoughts....
Good Going Folks!!
While I agree with the spirit of your post, just for the record, NUJS did place a considerable number of students in AMSS and other top tier firms during the recruitment of its first batch.
The advent of so many new law schools has brought the legal fraternity closer than ever before to the ideals of 'social engineering' that were envisaged by Mr Menon. While I hope that every law student gets adequate opportunities to choose his vocation, I cannot help but wonder that the spurt of reasonable quality lawschools will go a long way in bolstering the quality of legal academia and the bar in India.
Quoting RMLNLU:
Why I insist on small/medium sized firms because there are lot of such firms in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore even Chennai and Kolkata; these firms are often overlooked by most of the placement committees probably because they don't add to their snob- quotient, but believe when I say, such firms do give you good work and you can always built upon it. you will find such firms through Legal 500.
Contact companies, especially insurance, private banks, Microfin, Media networks; they all require legal and compliance officers, you will have to be very patient and persistent with them.
I hope its not too late for my opinion and wish you all the best.
P.S.: all current 5th yr students, it is very important where you choose to intern and when you do, give your a sincere and diligent show. Most of the firms judge, be it the so called big fish or the small and medium sized firm, will judge you on the basis of your internship. all the best to you too.
millions of people around the world have lost their jobs over the past 2-3 years and most are yet to be gainfully employed.
Adding to this, Uttar Pradesh...boss you go there and you see what is it like to be a government employee...if you are an 'adhikari' (those who don't know, this word denotes an 'officer'), you are a demi-god!! It might come as a surprise to you but even today people low in hierarchy touch their seniors feet twice a day. Yes that is a fact!! see Mayawati??
This is the precise reason why UPites are crazy about government jobs..not to mention the money that you can earn out of corruption, being a government servant. My dad is no different. I hail from UP studying is one of those A grade law schools...I can easily get a job in the BigLaw (which eventually I'm going to go for). But my dad simply refuses to stop bugging me...with one wish, I should appear for Judiciary exam or Civil Services. Infact a very dear friend of mine working in a Magic Circle firm and hailing from UP had a tuf time convincing her dad that she'z not just cut out for the Bench and the Babu giri...or rather Madamgiri!!
I wont be surprised if the toppers of RMLNLU would decide to forgo the Corp. World...infact I'm sure many of them have started preparing themselves since the second or the third year.
Someone from RMLNLU may please portray the clear picture??
Most of the students in good law schools opt for judicial clerkships in the Supreme Court which is prestigious and envied.
This HC judicial clerkship is there just to fluff up the recruitment figures.
v al knw the scene in cnlu
nuals kochi has done exceptionaly well
rmlnu's performance is decent
the only clege lft which hasnt shwn his placement figures is rgnul patiala, sme people say there ws no campus placements n wth no company visiting the campus..sad scene in rgnul patiala wth students finding jobs no where..
This will take the total tally to more than 50%
RMLNLU started with a non-law founder vice-chancellor (he was an ex-IIT Professor)and for almost 2 years, remained without a visionary. The present dispensation must be congratulated for what it could do in such short period of time.
Give all the "crawling babies" some more time and then we can have a fair comparative analysis of the recruitment data.
The truth ladies and gents, is that no one from any law school in the country and not having a family 'inheritance' has even the slightest interest to seriously 'opt' for the bench. If you thought a corporate profile with a law firm is a stressful losers-lose-all rat race, lower judicial services is utter crap - no money, marginal respect more than offset by the humiliation from the higher judiciary, plenty of lobbying and shameless nepotism.
I think the placements are pathetic. P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C. And a clear warning to prospective students - go to FL Delhi, GLC Mumbai, even Symbiosis if you must but avoid this place!
I agree some students are placed hereon contacts bcoz- 1. They have some personal contact and 2. The recruitment committee is unable to place them all as the students in committee itself fighting for their cosmos.
@ Kian - Distressing to see your credible info. on above mentioned placement and career option figures but in reality they are not absolutely true. Whosoever has given this info. has just exaggerated the whole things here.
#19- 'Iceman'- I'm eagerly waiting to see the performance of 2012 batch in the recruitment. But i'm sure we'll see some good combat involving 'promising yet confused' students of my batch and i include myself in that also.
Wake up 'Loiyans' we may be mentally equivalent to other peers in India but this is a reality we know less law and more of everything else.
Come here dirtbag, I'll show you....
