NLSIU Bangalore students find out by using fairness creams, belly fat reduction gels, allegedly 24-hour-effective deodorants, and anti-dandruff shampoos, and then emailing the companies’ customer care departments asking some hard questions.
In their research they conclude that a majority of the departments were unresponsive [Mint]

Had the benefit of reading your article "a tale of two consumer rights" published @ livemint.
I have often wondered about the "discounts" in the same way; there are companies which claim to offer upto 95% discounts on festive occasions. There are some which have a year long 70-80% scheme running, and some which claim "buy 1 get 3 free" etc.
Should they not be mandated to prove atleast some portion of their total sales @ the MRP, to prove that the MRP and corresponding discounts are genuine and not facade?
ps- tried to send this on the email mentioned, it bounced back.
