Our M&A and private equity / VC corporate law firm league tables - which we launched in December of last year and have been working on for a long time - are nearly finalised for the financial year 2018-19 (running from 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019).
We are pleased to say that these are shaping up to be, by far, the most complete and transparent picture of corporate deals activity by Indian law firms ever compiled.

Submit new deals
Any individual deals for the 2018-19 time period that are not yet tallied against your firm can still be submitted until coming Wednesday (29 May 2019) by clicking the above button on each page or clicking here.
Do note to only submit deals that are fine to also be published on the Legally India website. Same goes for mentioning values of deals or other details that clients may not want to be public.
Incomplete deals
If you see a deal already reported for another firm, but your firm did not get credit, please use the below button, as applicable, to update the deal tally
Incomplete headcounts
If you work for a law firm and the partnership and headcounts information is not accurate, up-to-date or missing, please click the ‘Update Firm Information’ button on each law firm’s page, to update headcounts, offices and details of the partnership.
Methodology
Small tweaks to the methodology are still being considered (and are linked to on the league tables microsite), but in substance:
- Deal dates are the earlier of the first media report of a deal, the announcement date or the closing date, in that order, and as applicable.
- M&A requires a change of control of the business.
- Minority purchases of less than 25% of publicly traded shares are excluded, as are internal restructurings, buybacks and similar transactions.

Luthra recently jumped in the tables since they agreed to submit their deals in the last few days. The deal dates of each of their included deals should be listed in the right-hand column of their table:

But yes, as long suspected with all league tables, this definitely proves that league tables are very much also a function of good PR and submissions.
However, we have endeavoured to make the submissions process as easy and transparent as possible, to enable even partners or team members to submit deals directly. I think that's why a lot of smaller firms are also represented in our table. I hope this representation of mid-size and smaller firms will continue to increase in the tables.
Always happy to hear your feedback.
