We are very happy to announce the formal launch of Legally India’s live deals league tables, law firm and lawyer directory.

These will hopefully prove to be a valuable resource and benchmark for current and future clients, practising lawyers and others interested in the industry.

We are beginning with ranking M&A and private equity / venture capital for the 2018 calendar year, and are looking to build this out in the coming months into a complete repository of law firm activity in the Indian market.

The idea behind the directory is that it is completely transparent, with all data of deals included being visible and reported on Legally India (see full methodology below).

However, we have not yet captured all deals of the 2018 calendar year. Further submission guidelines are found below, and we would encourage firms and individual partners to submit or update deals they have acted on.

All lawyers who have acted on reported corporate deals in 2018, will have their full portfolio of deals available on a single page, linked to from each firm’s profile.

And you can further drill down to individual clients, to see which law firms they have worked with in the last year.

Easy deals & directory updates

We have also streamlined our deals and law firm directory submissions process, via forms available on the directory and each law firm’s page.

Click the Submit New Deal button on each page to submit a new deal for inclusion within 48 hours.

On each law firm’s page you can also update the latest headcounts, offices and other details that will be included in our directory.

Methodology:

We have specifically tried to keep our methodology as simple as possible to avoid the over-complicated submissions process of other directories, but we intend to continue to fine tune this in line with readers’ and firms’ feedback.

General

• There are no minimum values for transactions to be included.
• Transactions where most work took place predominantly outside of India will be included, if at least 10% of the deal value concerned India-related assets and/or entities.
• Deal dates will generally be the earlier of the first media report of a deal, the announcement date or the closing date, as applicable.
• Deals must have been publicly disclosed or reported in media.

Corporate M&A deals

1. This will include all transactions where there is:

• a change of control of the business, or
• a strategic minority investment by a non-private equity or venture capital business.

2. Internal restructurings, share buybacks and similar transactions are excluded.

3. Minority purchases of less than 25% of publicly-traded shares are excluded.

Private equity / VC deals

All private equity and venture capital (VC) investments in Indian companies are currently included.
