1. Pivot your career: Leave legal practice and join a legal ed-tech, like lawsikho, which offers permanent WFH. Look into allied legal careers, like law firm marketing/ branding etc. The former is a better option as the pay scale is likely going to be better given your experience.
2. Freelance legal work: Build a solid LinkedIn profile, go on Upwork, Fiverr etc. and take on freelance legal work. The caveat is, this will take some time to work out. You'll not find clients immediately. But you'll get to practice law.
- Applying to less competitive colleges where you may get a scholarship: consider EU, Canada, New Zealand etc.
- Stick to doing a PhD in India. NLSIU as your top target. You may also think about JNU (international law).

I have long work hours and hence I want to try this out. Any tips on how to go about it?
1. work so hard for your law firm that it breaks you physically and then be proud of your bad health
2. Anyone who desires a decent WLB is an idiot
3. People can learn only by coercion through a senior
4. Have the attitude of "my way or the highway"
5. This fellow hates his/her entire team
6. S/he suffers from Stockholm syndrome - loves selfsacrificing for the sake of boss - expects others to do the same
I recently completed my LL.M. from WBNUJS and my B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) from Nirma University with four consecutive gold medals. Although I am preparing for the judicial exams, I believe I am more inclined towards academics and being a law faculty. I aspire to have an LL.M. from Oxford, but my financial situation is not such that I can afford it. Many of my friends and faculty members have also suggested me to join academics as they believe I can be good at that. Please suggest to me if I would be able to get any scholarships for Oxford and also what should be the approach to be in legal academia.
That would be very helpful. (Just to mention here that I have an inclination towards Jurisprudence in general, and criminal and feminist jurisprudence in particular, also I have been taking interactive sessions for my juniors since 2020 about various academic and non-academic queries)

The screenshot of the email soon went viral on social media, causing an outrage. Following this, New York City law firm Winston & Strawn released a statement saying they heard about their “inflammatory comments regarding Hamas’ recent terrorist attack” and “accordingly, the Firm has rescinded the law student’s offer of employment.”

NLSs top transactional lawyer (per deal average) is Raghubir Menon who is 3 years junior to Sudhir.
The top academics from NLS like Tarunabh Khaitan, Shyam Balganesh, Rohit De, Dev Gangjee and even Shamnad Basheer are junior to Sudhir.
I’m from a Non NLU and a government college with zero alumni in the big firms. I had to start inhouse, joined a Tier 3 firm, and made a switch to a Tier-1 firm where i am working currently.
You’ll need to stand out and so will your CV. Write papers, do moots, socialize and make good connections. Don’t lost hope there’s still a long way to go, just keep working hard and eventually reach a bigger firm/place wherever you want to work.

Do HR managers at CAM, SAM, AZB etc go through social media handles of students, or Google for the names of students, to see if they expressed left-wing or controversial political views? Do they then filter these names out? As law firms advancing capitalism and privatisation, and pushing for intellectual property rights of American companies, they would presumably consider left-wing views to be incompatible with the values of the firm? Particularly far-left and Marxist views? As also views supporting religious extremism? Do they also ask such subtle questions at interviews?
Incidentally, my friend sent me this funny clip from an old Satyajit Ray movie, which encapsulates the issue well! We have exactly these types of rebel students in my NLU and I guess all NLUs....LMAO!!

LI moderator: please star my comment for sharing this clip. 😝
Have met more than a dozen of the above. So from a statistical view point, I think otherwise.
Yahan tho assessment ke barein mein bolraha hu na, I interned with 5 firms, sabka yahin hai, can someone please share what I should do. I have another internship at Indus in some months too.
Losing hope,
Regards.
It's a simple business formula that SRL follows (a lot of times at the expense of clients). They currently seem to have 70+ lawyers (as per LinkedIn), but at the same time, they have only 2 partners! 2 counsels (and they are not that senior either, 2017 grad and 2015 grad)! And just 3 Senior Associates! The rest are just associates! The reason for so many exclamation marks are that it's just extraordinary how one can run such a firm. Where foreign law firms run at a partner to associate ratio of 1:2 or 1:3 at max; and Indian firms run at perhaps 1:6 to 1:8 (which is by itself absolutely poor), how can one firm even delivery proper legal advice with a ratio of 1:35?!
They make it more sellable by saying that young lawyers get more opportunity - that's great, but at what cost? It's more important for a junior lawyer to be guided properly, rather than just giving them the exposure. Their M&A/PE team is a run by a team of 3 people (of which the most experienced associate has a 3-4 years of experience.
Of course, they will be able to pay associates money that they published about (if they perform) - because they are literally doing partner level work. It's highly probable that client advice goes without partner sign-offs, because it's impossible for a partner to do all kinds of work - M&A, investments, tech regulations, employment, litigation (!!), all this while being extremely active of LinkedIn.

- Full of overpriced, overrated crap

And it's silly to equate faculty to law firm partners. A place of education is for students to learn in a open, holistic, convivial and conducive atmosphere. Not a restrained cottage industry. Equating the two defeats the very purpose of an education that allows freedom. What if the student does not want to enter a law firm? Why force down law firm expectations indiscriminately?
that is the bar, now you can decide if you want to celebrate it
Stanford thing is just gimmick to grab eyeballs, I have been getting these emails from the first year it started.
PS: Patanjali also cites this 'accolade'
PS: Let us not forget the lizard rice, gloves bhajia and potato mashing incident at jindal
Really sorry to hear what you went through, Mr/Ms. OP. If they were not happy with your performance, they should have been upfront about it and told you where exactly it is that you are going wrong. Shows that they lack basic decency, empathy and are least bothered about others. On the bright side though, in the long run, you will be thanking your lucky stars that you did not end up at a toxic and cunning place like this.
Dude this year even cam has shortlisted back rankers because they interned previously or something
I think most academically successful people tend to not view the world as black and white , not follow dogma and make their own mind up and change their mind several times as they grow.
This conversation is not about leftist sympathies, this is about supporting terrorism. If leftists forget than then they are truly lost.
Understand that building a good clinical programme doesn’t happen over night. You need to consider the needs and wants of the community you’re trying to serve and build confidence with them which is hard to do when law students come and go and don’t really stick around for the long haul, you need to find someone to head the programme who is already quite established and trustworthy with the target population and that person needs to stick around a long while and be able to successfully guide students through a clinical course.
These things take time. There are more interests involved than just your CV.
And students in universities abroad do plenty of learning first principles and legal theory. No one jumps into practice without knowing the law. What would you even do ? Move paper around ?
- safest option
- not tooo expensive
- fancy decor & aesthetics
- great food & drink varieties
- quick turnaround time with prompt staff
As for it being pathetic, so is your effort to dress up for law firm partners. Or are you claiming that you should also be allowed to give your interviews in shorts? You aren't.

There are many MA programmes at JNU. List here. An MA in pol science should be easy for lawyers. You can choose a constitution-related topic for your thesis. An MA from JNU also opens doors for PhDs abroad. JNU has a big alumni cabal in universities all over the world.

Armed Forces husband is a really bad option for your (OR ANY Wife's) career. Most Officers spouses are housewifes. And your horrible transfers and social duties (parties, wife welfare association) make it impossible to do any meaningful work.
Break up with that Armed forces guy if you want a career.
Also when you marry an unemployed woman, dont you expect her to work in the house as well or something to even it? Will an unemployed man do that, lol just for one Insta reel that's it.
But obviously, why will a well-off person for that matter settle for a broke guy? Why will a dad be fine with that as well? Will you let your daughter marry a broke litigator?
Also why do you generalise everything like this? Fir toh mein bolu ki men who are better well off will ask for more dowry as well to settle that? iska kya bologe?
Thanks
So these firms will take second-tier talent, while the toppers will prefer other firms. Butt in fairness, I should say that CAM has recruited many left-wing students, so it shows that Cyril Shroff is smart!
1. Law School: 25
2. Other NLUs: between 0 to 6.
That's all.

JGLS will be hoping that this results in the following:
- A few recruitments for legal jobs: Both at Go Air and the law firm handling the work
- An Aviation Law centre and a focus on teaching aviation law: which, in turn, could widen the recruiter pool
- Possibly a helicopter service from Sonipat to Delhi. If GoAir has a helicopter fleet, then the university helipad can already be used. The current cab charges are exorbitant and a chopper service will cost almost the same.
- Corporate discount on GoAir flights for students.

Its great for an A0-A3 POV since the learning curve will be very very very steep.
Easy to release salary figures when there's no employee to pay them to
