We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

I don’t particularly care that he’s not approachable. I have friends. I don’t need him to be my buddy. I don’t need to cry to him about my break up or my problems. I need him to care that I learn his subject. He clearly does care that I learn what he’s teaching because he has exacting standards.
It would be creepy for him to try to be my friend or confidante. That’s not his job.
If students don’t understand someone because they zoned out or didn’t pay attention or didn’t do the reading - I mean it’s ridiculous to evaluate professors by what their worst students are able to get. It’s not actually the professors job to download information to your brain- it’s his job to guide you through that stuff yourself. You’re gonna have to read and think for yourself. That’s why we have universities. It’s not school.
If I’m being told there are world class faculty and there are rigorous examinations. I’m bound to think my kid is studying all the time- that’s what they tell me. If I’m told it’s a drug free booze free campus - that’s what I will believe. I won’t be there on campus everyday to make sure.
If the university is upfront with parents about - look we don’t really expect that our students will be working all these hours - most of them will have a lot of free time. And beyond occasionally busting some kid with pot - there’s really nothing the university can do or is able to do about drugs and alcohol on campus- and here are statistics on rates of addiction among our students. Here is the how many instances of violence were reported on campus last year , how many of our students were involved with drunk driving etc last year, how many died year on year and here is what the drop out rate is- If you provide parents with that information - If you make clear to them that you are not in fact able to take responsibility of their kids. Then it’s all fair right ? They can make an informed decision about whether or not to admit.
You can’t at once claim parents should know better while keeping information from them because it improves your bottom line.
She buys into critical race theory and even more abstract feminist theory whole sale. While shutting down criticisms of those things - even from black people or feminists. She elides the differences between the argument a mackinnon and a butler makes. And the daylight that’s there between say - WEB Du Bois and Kimberley Crenshaw. She makes these communities seem like a monolith with one argument that you either fall in line or you’re a bigot. But the real thing is that it’s very complex and it’s worth it to teach students that complexity.
What’s more a good teacher should be teaching the complexity to ensure her students can use any of those arguments as might suit them in their work as lawyers and counter any of those arguments as well.
Instead she rewards students who have the “right opinion” even if fuzzy thinking gets them there. She doesn’t trust that her students will get to the same conclusions as her if she simply provides them with the fair introduction to all of these arguments so she strawmans the opposing positions. It makes for worse - more indoctrinated and less useful left wing students too.
Even moving away from that - I liked her poverty outline enough as her student but it’s clear now that there’s a real blind spot. We should be knowing what free market economists are really arguing, not the straw man positions we wish they’d argue but what they’re actually saying. We should be able to examine in some greater depth how caste affects law and poverty in India. We should be learning about labour movements that tried to change things. It’s not enough to just cry “capabilities approach” without seriously engaging with all the scholarly work that is out there. When we do learn intersectionality- we should be asking ourselves difficult questions on what that means when it’s race and class, or caste and class, or gender and caste.
Dhanda wants her students to come away thinking there is an easy answer to these questions and that good liberal feminist people have one way of thinking about this - but they don’t. There are wide disagreements even in the left wing academia about how these conflicts come down. And we elide that more interesting scholarship because we want to think there is some broad alliance building based on … vibes ?
The problem with her teaching is not that it’s Left wing. It’s that its just not sufficiently rigorous. It’s the junk food Mickey Mouse version of left wing that does a disservice to its students too.
I have no problems with a teacher talking about their opinions - that’s her right. my problem is with the dogmatic behaviour in and out of the classroom.
50 jobs for 500 applicants 😍
Now we add gonna triple batch size

He's such an ideological fraud and sell-out; he won't even hold a substantive interview with Rahul Gandhi before this election. I am willing to bet my last dollar on this! Fun fact - The last time he interviewed Rahul G was in the previous election and that too for hardly 5 minutes! That interview had only softballs! No surprises there.
I'll tell you why he won't hold a substantive discussion with Rahul - he knows perfectly well that a substantive discussion with that man can and will result in a repeat of his (Rahul's) unforgettable media debacle in the run-up to the 2014 elections. It won't serve Mr. Jain's agenda.
And, mind you, it saddens me to say all this. Through the many episodes of Truth versus Hype, which I watched religiously with the hope of getting honest journalism (over journalism that runs roughshod on Modi for the heck of it), I saw a propagandist. A fool who missed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to counter the likes of Arnab with substantive and unbiased reportage. To his credit, Sreenivasan can speak and present well. It's all such a shame, honestly! To sell out for an Al Jazeera paycheck which can and will only with trashing your motherland in this abhorrently biased manner is even more unfortunate and shameful...,
The only few firms having dedicated corporate law teams are Khaitan & Co., Fox & Mondal, Argus Partners (as far as I know). Few other firms like Kini and Sinha are not purely involved into corporate practice. What they do is a mixture of litigation and corporate practice i.e., NCLT matters.
Why there is such a gap in the legal market of Kolkata? Why are firms not indulging in corporate practice like GC, M&A, IBC, TMT, IPR etc. Also, another evident phenomenon being the T1s opening their shops in every metro city in India, except for Kolkata. T1s, T2, and even some T3s are expanding into cities like Ahmedabad, Lucknow but not in Kolkata.
What is wrong with Kolkata? What's happening here? Why does it seems like the legal giants are actively avoiding the only metro city of East India?
(Rough estimates, don't remember the exact figures because . . . kya hi fark padta hai):
30+ PPOs (20+ from T1s & 10+ from T2s)
18-20 Day Z offers [accepted; total offers was way higher h/t some (now former) committee mistakes]
25+ Day 1 [inhouse(12-14) + T2 firms(5-7) + consultancy(4-5) + PSUs(2-3)]
3+ TCs, 5+ Ivy League LLMs (more acceptances likely)
Some 5-8 people are joining litigators/SAs, and the rest are still considering their options, given that some well-known entities are still coming.
Barring 5-7 Judiciary/UPSC aspirants & 3-5 people who had fundamental difficulties with interviews as a whole, everyone who seriously looked for a job has basically received one.
thanks in advance
30+ T-1 PPOs
30+ Day Zero
In all around 65 people were placed at T1s.
Around 10 people at places like ICICI Bank, HCL, and PSUs (The latter pays at a surprisingly High CTC)
And to top it off, 2 Oxford Masters.

In fact, some universities list NLUs in Category 2. Category 1 is assigned to INIs and Category 3 is assigned to Private Universities.

Here's the notification, from the website of Hindustan Times:
https://www.hindustantimes.com/ht-img/img/2023/03/31/550x309/_c332c8b0-1600-11e7-85c6-0f0e633c038c_1680241454586_1680241454586.jpg
Law graduates are also eligible to apply for general stream.
> A good number of Indian law graduates prefer UK for further studies.
> None of the NLUs are INIs BECAUSE these are state universities.
> This trend will continue to gain traction as it is part of the India-UK FTA (expected to be finalized by the end of 2024).
If I were Adish, I would have walked out of the interview. The reason why no one from the BJP will give Sreenivasan Jain the time of day is because he isn't dishing news; he's smearing the country, internationally. He's toing the editorial policy at ALJAZEERA, which is SMEAR INDIA COME WHAT MAY. Dare he do such a documentary on any Arab Middle East Dictatorship. They'll sort him out in a day.
Looking for good times ahead.

Do you think SAM CAM would follow and match the hike?
Of around 45 people wanting jobs 35 have received it.
Additionally, implementing strict measures like curfews and bag searches is often met with resistance from students, as I recall from a large private university where I worked, where such measures led to violent student protests.Instead of placing blame on the institution, parents should reflect on why their children engage in activities they disapprove of.
Gen Z must reconcile this hypocrisy.
PLEASE
A&O is reserved only for NLS, NALSAR, NUJS, NLUJ and NLUD (I may be wrong)
