No probability of hiring after assessment period. They pay 25k for assessment interns and assessment is for generally 6 months after which they "consider" your candidature. I did 6 month assessment with them and was told that there is no vacancy. Also the pay as Associate is around 35-40k (depends on team to team).

By making a holistic assessment of things. I would say it is easily NLIU Bhopal in this scenario. You will struggle at MNLU and other than the locational assessment, there are no perks. I dont see why someone would want MNLU Mumbai, if they can just go to GLC and do running internships.

Well, I think in their younger days, they were eating that junk a food, that we're used to eating, they saved well, in their peak ages, now when they're getting old, they're running up the ladder too, that means they can devote 1 hour gym and eat healthy, money ain't a issue for them.

I am an incoming third-year law student at a Tier-3 NLU. I currently have a CGPA of 8.7/10, with 8 publications in reputed platforms such as IRCCL, Pith and Substance (NLUJ), RMLNLU Law Journal, among others. I also have a decent moot court record and some internship experience.

I wanted to seek your guidance regarding which law firms I should target for internships at this stage. I have been applying for internship opportunities, including the ongoing internship break, but unfortunately haven't had much success so far. I feel it might partly be because I was still in my second year, but I would really appreciate your advice on how I should approach applications and which firms to focus on and also what should be my approach for the same.

As a GLC grad, I know for a fact that the cons you listed are real but as someone who has entered the profession recently, I will still recommend you to join GLC particularly when you are inclined towards getting into corporate.

Glc has, hands downs, a great alumni base, strong placement cell, opportunity to intern year round, attendance system is also very manageable despite of the strictness. It will give you the freedom to explore, the opportunity to build great connections and learn from some of the best professors (despite of the other so-so ones).

But you'll have to be prepared to face the lax administration, inadequate infrastructure, and your only catalyst there would be self-motivation.

As of date, MNLUN still has a long way to catch up with GLC's repo.

I stay in Lucknow, but i may get GNLU in my vacancy list. I was wondering if i should shift from RML (my currently allotted college) to GNLU or should I just stay in RML.

The thing is I have heard that GNLU on paper is a very good college, but largely it has many hidden issues that continue to plague its system such as its largely admin run (rather than students), hostel crisis is very persistent with students staying in extremely small rooms, the admin hushes up lot of harassment issues or other incidents, GNLU students barely know their seniors and juniors (RML on the contrary has a tight knit community is what I have heard). See I am relatively not that interested in getting placed in the corporate and I have the family/financial support to pursue other endeavors such as post-graduation abroad and I want to have a good campus life with a good amount of time for sports and gym as well.

You cite last years placements as the benchmark, then you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. The student body has taken active efforts to fix the errors of the past. But of course, students like you who drag their own institution through the mud, then complain about the reputation of the college truly surprise me.
It seems like people like you can only complain and just never have a positive outlook. Getting a PPO is not solely on the college, its individual driven and if you can't do that, then don't blame the institution. Also fyi I put GNLU below NLIU, not that it mattered.
And I mean yes, campus life would not matter to someone who stays in their room 24/7 and does not explore and enjoy life (Other than their position in the rat race). But to someone who does enjoy other elements of life and not just a job at the end of their 5 years, a campus life and decent accommodation would matter.

Next time you say people who don't make coherent points are the reason for the downfall, you should first present some coherent points. VAC schemes are also purely individual driven, there are students from RML who have gotten it, RGNUL, this is not incumbent on the college. All you have done is prove my point that the college does provide several opportunities (frankly more than most NLUs) and the students are not aptly utilizing it.

The only point that i may agree with is yes, ragging exists and it should end in all forms. But it has largely dwindled in recent years and the senior-junior culture continues to play a vital role in facilitating a lot of things. Alumni and even your direct seniors when you enter can help you with internships, jobs, and various other opportunities. Open your eyes, law is not just a corporate placement, its much more.

Been at CAM for around 6 months and quit it without looking for a PPO, got a soft commitment from a partner, though to join back at will, but I switched my career, so not looking to join. Process is simple, impress the partner vacancy at CAM is Air apparent. Teams like Capital markets, projects, and IBC are hiring really well at scale from NLU's and offering PPO's.

Speak to your partner that you are willing to join the team as an associate, and your partner will communicate accordingly if the response is positive partner will not straight away commit to you; first, he/she will speak to the HR team. Sometimes, to accommodate you, your partner will try to convince the partner heading that team, and you may be hired as a shared resource working for more than 1 partner. In this case, post-internship, after a month, your interview will be scheduled, which will be conducted by 2-3 partners in that area. (observation - if you reach the interview stage means you have already cracked it).

You would think from the comments on LI that T1 associates work all day like slaves and are depressed and unhappy. This reel shows that is far from the truth. T1 lawyers can have the best life if they manage the time well. Just look at her: she is finding time for gym and sports everyday, plus chit chat with friends. On certain days she can perhaps replace sports with reading or Netflix. Her office looks fab and her apartment looks great.

First, NLSIU is the most liberal of the NLUs, so no age discrimination.

Second, most people are droppers because it’s such a coveted institution, so you will have company.

Third, caste quota students get age relaxation so there could actually be people older than you.

I have secured a good enough rank to be able to join either law school for the next 5 year, and since then i have been in a tough position and unable to make my decision.(Cost is not an issue in this case, with scholarship both will come down to roughly the same)

GLC MUMBAI

Pros-

1. Has the better brand name.

2. Proximity to the bombay high court and all the major law firms. Better opportunity at networking and attending conferences etc.

3. Attendance is lax.

4. I can do running internships. Won't have to travel for internships (this will save money in the long run)

5. Gorgeous city (makes up for the bad infrastructure?).

Cons-

1. Outdated syllabus. 2+3 learning module, won't be taught any major law subjects until third year.

2. Heard that the college is trying to mandate the 75% attendance rule (the biggest downside for glc?).

3. I am not the most interested in the studying BLS.

4. I have been told by many that the college is declining and will only get worse in the next 5 years.

5. Afraid of slacking here (because I will have to be on my own completely)?

MNLU NAGPUR

Pros-

1. Excellent Syllabus ( I'm much interested in business and law and here I get to study BBA LLB)

2. Has got a structure to it that might make law school easier to navigate.

3. Growing NLU. Will likely be doing a lot better in future, (and maybe overtake GLC if the latter keep declining?).

4. Gorgeous Campus.

5. Will get to intern a total of 4 months a year (will have to skip a few days of classes).

Cons-

1. Is still looked down and considered a T-3.

2. Strict attendance. 5 marks in internals is based on attendance %, which I am definitely going to lose.

3.Away from the city and not a whole lot to do there.

4. Won't be able to network freely here.

5. Placement average is much lower.

I have talked to a few seniors at both the colleges and MNLUN seniors have recommended to go for GLCM, whereas GLCM seniors have asked m to stay away from GLC and had put weight of the NLU tag.

For context,

I plan of choosing a corporate career, mainly in m&a, because mumbai is the m&a hub of India, I'm leaning towards GLC but the syllabus and growing attendance criteria there is making me hesitate. I would love to live in south bombay, but not at the cost of getting stuck at a place I'm going to regret later.

Whereas MNLUN seems to provide a fairly stable environment and that definitely sounds more reassuring wen put against the situation of glc right now as mentioned above.

Considering you're 19 and have a double digit rank, I'm assuming you took a drop for clat to give your best shot - now that you've finally made it you're getting anxious and overthinking of what else could go wrong. Life isn't that deep and people don't talk/think about you if you don't give them a reason too. People at least a very vast fine majority of them in premier law schools don't care about your caste, class, gender, age, religion - while I agree class may have a role to play in the initial social bonds people create (birds with the same feathers flock together).

This incesstant need to socialise and fear of missing out is also very unhealthy. If you try to excessively mold your identity/personality/views to suit the needs of others you yourself slowly become someone you won't associate with. Wear whoever you are on your sleeve, take care of your grades, play some sports and most importantly enjoy college - make mistakes and learn from them, fall in love, maybe smoke some pot. I would suggest that you start dragging their cases. Don't damage them, but keep them in suspended animation.

A pissed off client/ individual never pays. You can ask them nicely. If that does not work, keep badgering them every week.

If that does not cut it and if you know other persons in their circle, start dropping hints casually that your client is almost bankrupt and may go belly up soon. Ask them to be careful in their dealings with them. Call key persons in their office and ask them if they are paid and spread panic.

Hire gig workers and others to send anonymous letters to their vendors and landlord regarding risk of default. If he still does not blink and is a company, get email confirmation and file ibc If dent above 1 cr OR file a suit.

If you are not sure about the practice area and money is not the key concern, see if you can join a generalist litigation practitioner as a junior. The amount of substantive and procedural understanding you will gain will be unmatched, and you can pivot to a particular practice area 1-2 years down the line, eventually, if you feel so. If you only want to do corp, then just join any firm that's ready to take you in it GC practice.

nalsar first needs to get rid of the foreign category quota, or at least introduce guardrails (such as needing to study in the foreign country for x years). Calling yourself a "top 2 nlu" while allowing candidates with ranks in the 5000s and class 12 scores of 75%, who have spent their entire school life in india, to secure admission, solely on the basis of citizenship status is absolutely preposterous.

sc/st/obc quotas take the beatings but no one calls out nri sponsored/foreign quotas which are brazenly unconstitutional because these students are well spoken and rich.

I am now at juncture where I don't know what path leads to where.

I do not know what I desire to become.

I have always done things to get an escape, the short term distraction to the life.

I come from a very small city. I was always interested in sports and other stuff (including being the miscreant at school)

Had no guidance from anyone actually, little I could relate why to study and read such irrelevant books in school.

What's the purpose, what I will get out of this other than a percentage in my annual report.

Back then things at my house was not well either, my parents had a trouble, I was mentally distanced from them but being there still had effected me.

Had poor marks in 12th, barely passed.

Then I thought I have to be at home, doing my father's business in small town and at my home but then I remember I wanted to run away from it and set myself free.

But I hardly helped myself, I am decent smart but never studied.

I then once saw CLAT topper in other city where there was a NLU.

I had always dreamt of living a college life, I thought this was gateway to lead a decent life, took a drop appeared for CLAT. Never worked that hard ever in my life, but as luck would want it, CLAT paper was a copy paste of a CAT exam and a website, few were lucky if they had good English and had gone through that website, other like me could only repent on their luck.

Joined a law college which is supposedly traditional best college in T1 city.

Then to compensate for not getting top NLUs, I then did something which I always never liked CA.

At this point, my life is nothing less than sort of finding a way of a situation, or compensation to my insecurity.

Turned out, CA was just a cosmetic to my insecurity against people who had done law from Top tier NLUs, or against my friends who are solely doing CA and we're ahead of me as they started way before me.

Truth be spoken, given I choice, I love to reason and argue and research then to read a company's balance sheet. So, I thought I'll always keep law as priority and CA as something if happens on route then nothing like it.

Traditional college has it's own disadvantages of advantages, while it allowed me to CA, they didn't have any robust and reformed curriculum. Hardly had anything related to core law in first two year. It seemed my descision to do CA was a good and better idea.

Then again, world hit a snag in 2020, just when I had gotten a Tier 1 internship at law firm but then world and my opportunities both freeze indefinitely.

Snap, and in year 2021, I had graduated with no placements from college, law firms not taking intern for the whole year and half didn't help.

Let me tell, I had tried, I don't remember a day for many months where I have not applied for like 20-30 emails, every route, from the high hopes to desperate measures, I've done all.

Begining year 2022, if you've no corporate law jobs, if you can't even justifying moving out of your city, irony had me on chokehold, when I was asked to come for a physical interview for some random law firm, where the was 15k, I never came, I knew rent in Mumbai is minimum of 10k, what I will do with that.

Okay, I thought may be CA would help me, pivoted to CA, started preparing for CA, slogged for another 2 year, and become one in 2024 while seeing my friend become CA 4 year before me.

Now with a year and so in a big CA firm job, I found myself back to ground zero, where I did things I am not liking, again finding myself at a juncture where the next step is nothing but a way to escape. Again doing something, I never want to, have applied for a CFA.

Hi, I have also currently joined a boutique law firm specializing in litigation and arbitration, I am also assisting a recently designated Sr Counsel in their work. if I have to move to a bigger firm after a 1 Year's experience, how should I go about it. I am mostly working on commercial litigation matters and arbitration matters (international and domestic), how does a move to a bigger firm (Tier 1 and Tier 2) look like and how should I plan and prepare for the same.

No one has to drag NLIU into the mud, it’s already dirty. NLIU’s PCC brought how many ppos last year….even this year? The institution is filled with bootlicking of seniors….where true merit has been overlooked by biased behaviour. Majority of good students from NLIU are not getting placed, and the mooting culture is also slowly dying. Let’s not start with publications now, lol.

See if you want to stay near Home MNLU should be the pick. but believe me when I say this leaving the comfort of home changes people. if you wanna compare colleges NLIU is better comparatively to MNLU. a good alumni base and flagship events in the country means something in a fluctuating legal market and it would be reflected in coming years. even if you run current placements no. for the 27 batch that is ongoing NLIU comes out better. although MNLU is a absolutely good choice as well if you want to stay near home, there is nothing you can't do at MNLU that you can at NLIU. I would recommend getting in touch with alumni of both the colleges then make a call. good luck

Very easy to say this when you have no idea about NLIU itself.
In my initial year at NLIU, I can honestly say I wasn't very happy with it and mainly because of comments like this that serve no constructive purpose, other than dragging NLIU's name in the mud.

But, in my second year onwards, I truly realised how good NLIU is. They provide a platform for almost anything - Sporting and Moots are reimbursed (compare this to other T1s such as NLSIU or GNLU that barely provide any funding + alumni at NLIU fund almost anything for their juniors), arguably has the most number of active centre's and cells amongst all the NLU's which are adequately backed and financed by the administration, their outreach is also increasing (even a podcast has been started), a beautiful campus and campus life is great as well, many complain about accommodation (but then take a look at MNLU itself, or NLSIU, GNLU, NUJS, their accommodation is 10x worse), the internship opportunities continue to flow in with tier 1s regularly providing batch internships or through courses at NLIU (trust me being a student at NLIU gives you an advantage at these courses and its very easy for an internship), it regularly host events such as the SBA Law Conclave which hosts supreme court judges and other eminent legal individuals, placements are also decent (contrary to what the trailing message says, the last year was an anomaly and most T1s did not enjoy great placements as such - Nalsar 12?).
Please think twice before you drag NLIU in the mud. It is a great college and will continue on an upward path.

Theres no denying the past, but that doesn't mean that the student community (Which runs the college and grants you all the freedom you need) has not worked tirelessly to rectify and fix past issues. And its a joke that you think it would fall below MNLU Mumbai which neither has a campus or placements until now.
