It seems hard to believe that a person otherwise able to cope with the work assigned to them would leave just because of their accent.

One should choose NLSIU over any university abroad, except Oxbridge or Ivy League and that too if they give scholarship. Period.

Look at the ROI NLSIU gives you now. Fabulous placements and fantastic faculty who could be teaching anywhere abroad. All for a fraction of the cost abroad. Yes, the hostel issue is a but challenging now, but it will be solved with new construction.

Even Harvard will not necessarily give you such ROI.

I have heard that there are students who opt for NLUJ, NLIU, GNLU over NUJS due to campus constraints, college life, and overall perception of the University being on a downfall. This is really concerning and NUJS really should pull up their pants if they want to continue as the third/fourth best NLU.

One positive thing that has happened is that the pack of criminals running the state for 15 years have left and a very erudite person, with a PhD from SOAS, has become Finance Minister. Last time this happened was when Asim Dasgupta (a PhD from MIT) was Finance Minister, under the Left government. I think a delegation of alumni and students should seek an appointment with Swapan Dasgupta and make a case for reforming NUJS. Start with inducting good people in the governing bodies and top alumni of NLUs.

Sounds like you are diligent and target achiever. Suggestion- rely on your background of CA and law, to score a role in tax compliance teams supporting transactions and deals in top firms. Or corporate tax/inhouse anything you can get. Experiment and pivot to find out what makes your heart sing. If you feel you cant go for top tier firms just yet. Try with firms like Vaish/LKS/ELP and others.

Hello everyone, I would really appreciate some advice regarding this.

I'm planning to pursue a 3 year LLB and need help deciding between these two colleges: KC Law College and Jitendra Chauhan College of Law (JCCL)

From what I know so far, KC has the advantage in terms of location, but I've also heard that JCCL offers more flexibility and better opportunities when it comes to internships. I was initially aiming for GLC, but I have a feeling that my percentile may not be enough to make the cut this year.

Hi everyone. I am a final year law student . I wanted to know whether in the current climate of AI , should I pivot to do an MBA. I had thought this back in my third year but my maths is extremely weak. Last time I studied math was in 10th grade.

Regarding corplaw I find it a decent sector to work as per my experience from internships and description of tasks from associates (maybe I am naive, sorry for that).

Regarding MBA, I am interested in consulting and have no interest in other sectors like HR. However I am worried whether the Quant section in MBA exams will be a major hurdle for me and whether I will have to do major maths all my life if I even get a good Consulting job. But at the same time I feel that I had a mediocre life till now and I would like to achieve some institution tag validation (Read IIM BLACKI and XLRI) , and there is also higher earning potential than corplaw.

I have an internship confirmed with TT&A's competition team. But I have received another confirmation from a Tier 1 competition team - Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas. The problem is SAM is not offering the month I want but the month clashing with my TT&A internship. I feel like I am good and have a chance at recruitment with both teams. While leaving the sweatshop you're at is the most sound decision in this situation but ask yourself these questions before making a decision. (a) Do you have any existing liability/debt which you can't pay off without a job?(b) Do you have an emergency fund for at least 3 months? If any of these questions are in the negative. Just think before quitting. No job is worth your mental health, you can always figure out your life later and quit these jobs without a backup but with a major asterisk.

How ungrateful. You dont see that the Partner is taking the team out when most firms dont give a flying f! Secondly, your partner is trying to expand your horizons, you can try and then chose not to partake. Imagine youre at a client dinner and they serve something that you dont like.... will you get up and walk away or have a meltdown and demand your daal chawal and butter chicken. There are more flavourful dishes outside North India - open your mind and stop with the whining. Seriously how ungrateful can you get?

FYI she is from one of the top 3 NIRF NLUs and probably the #1 firm. Learn to appreciate instead of being jealous and demeaning people. She is someone who makes use of every minute of her time and doesn't waste it on unproductive things. It's something we need to learn.

Please quit right now. You should not suffer like this and definitely should not self harm. You have 2 years of experience at a tier 1 and it will help you land a good job after this as well. Go to some other place maybe at a mid size firm, I understand the pay might be a bit less than what you're earning right now but you would also get some relief, some time to work on your mental and physical health. Do your DD before joining any place and you'll be better off than what you'suffering here. I hope you get better!

Language is a great barrier indeed. As for the accent if depends on whether your accent is thick or not. (And further if it's the standard Golden Triangle city wala accent or not). I know of a person with a very dehati (UPBihar villagelike) English accent who worked in a Tier 1 law firm. He couldn't cope up for more than a year and left the firm.

With movements in the IP space : SAM IP Partners moving to Trilegal, Khaitan (Ankur Sangal setting his own shop), who are the go to IP partners in the IP practices at the top tier 'full service firms' with a well rounded practice with the ability to handle the entire the life cycle, i.e. ability to handle prosecution, litigation as well as transactions with a good culture within their team. The understanding is that other than Khaitan most other full service top tier firms focus more on transaction work as compared to prosecution and litigation. Similarly some partners are known to have a focus on only patents or only transactions or only prosecution. Views?

Or even places in NZ and Canada.

Basically places whose degrees would be recognised in India for the Equivalency Exam, should one wish to return to India.

Would you choose a free ride in such colleges over even NLSIU, despite NLSIU’s unofficial title as the Harvard of the East? Also, historically, are there examples of anyone turning down full scholarships at a university abroad to join NLSIU?

For context, Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul studied at University of New Mexico. Is a partnership at a firm like HHM in the show reflective of how tier 4 grads in the US do? Would an average NLSIU grad be better placed?

From what I’ve seen, only a small number of people were actually placed through college, while most of us have been trying on our own. I’m curious to know how things are going for everyone else.

Personally, I’m finding the market much tougher than I expected. It’s been about a month of actively applying and I haven’t had much success. My assessment internship did not convert into a full-time role, and since then I’ve been applying extensively.

I’ve reached out to seniors on LinkedIn, texted partners, sent cold emails, applied through firm websites, followed up wherever possible, but most responses have either been that there are no A-0 vacancies or I’ve simply been left on seen. The bigger concern is that I’m barely getting interviews at all.

For those who are still searching, how has your experience been? Have you been getting interviews? Are firms hiring A-0s right now or is the market genuinely this slow?

Also, for people targeting in-house roles, how are you approaching applications? Most openings I come across on company career pages require PQE, and there don’t seem to be many fresher opportunities.

Would really appreciate if batchmates could share honestly how things are going. Trying to understand whether this is a common experience this year or if there’s something I’m missing in my approach.

The Marxist NLU college students of 2020 are the capitalist law firm associates of 2026. They have shed their old ideology and moved rightwards. They protested against the CAA in 2020, but now want all Bangladeshi and Rohingya Muslims deported. They cited Muhammad Yunus in their first year eco projects, but today call him a jihadist sympathiser and US Deep State puppet.

It's a fact of life that you become more conservative with age.

The question is whether those commenting here are first-gen lawyers who are meritorious and with similar elite educational credentials, or first-gen lawyers who are mediocre and from the chhapri segment.

Hey! Thanks so much for sharing your opinion, i have a few more specific things i would like to ask, one of which is the 1st con listed for GLC, that is the outdated syllabus and 2+3 learning module.

My question is, since students cannot rely on the college for learning the law especially in the initial year, what do students then do to catch up to the NLU students from the same year?

And secondly, how are students at GLC able to secure internships without the same knowledge of law that nlu Without classroom learning and possibly time spent on learning on our own, how do students manage both internships and self study?

Are these students who are interning all year round or for the most part, taking part in competitions, writing papers etc, also able to score well and maintain a good rank?

One more question that i would like to ask which i hadn't put forth earlier is regarding the ADR competitions at GLC, I have heard it extremely competitive (as expected), but still if you can tell whether students there get equal opportunities to participate, by that i mean to build the competition cv from smaller competitions to bigger ones ofcourse. Also are participants supposed to arrange for their own funds to compete for national or local level competitions?, I have seen funding Boucher for international competitions, not sure of for the smaller ones. Is there any specific criteria where you have to be in a certain year of study to be able to take part in certain competitions or everything is skill based?

one thing i can vouch for is the senior-junior culture in gnlu. the fact that the student community barely knows each other is a plain lie. gnlu is in the outskirts of the city, and is a residential campus. everyone more or less knows each other and there is a great camaraderie between seniors and juniors, considering the student body can only stand with and support each other when faced with admin related issues.

gnlu also has a pretty good sports culture; the sports equipment and facilities are frankly speaking, not the best, but its okay enough for a government college; what keeps this culture alive are the dedicated athletes and sportspersons on campus! (im one too)

2026 law graduate here. I am currently working at a listed company in a compliance role, with most of my work involving licensing and regulatory matters. I have completed around six months in the role.

I have received an opportunity from a small boutique law firm that would provide broader exposure to corporate and commercial work, but it comes with a pay cut (₹6 LPA to ₹5 LPA). For those who have made a similar transition, would you prioritise learning and law firm exposure at this stage, or stay in-house for longer?

the "tight knit" community of RML is more toxic than you'll realise, where a downward spiral is celebrated and anyone trynna make a name for themself is put down. there still is a very weird (almost homo-erotic) ragging culture which has not done the uni any good.

you might not want a placement per se (a tad too early to decide if you ask me) but end of the day youd still like to be educated right? that thing is a luxury here at RML.

Lastly the sports culture? last year rml teams did not go to any sports fests because ALL our exams(midsems and end sems) somehow shared dates with sports fests.

over 90 percent of my batch that graduated this year got jack-squat placements, and barely anyone made it to god unis to pursue their masters.

youd think all of this atleast gives you some healthy social life/parties? lol nope. all that admin does is police students in campus. no parties, no outings post 10 and barely any fests.

ANY OTHER UNI youll be better off than rmlnlu.

My biggest worry right now is the actual return on investment (ROI). I have researched a lot online and watched videos about the legal job market. The general view is that getting a decent-paying job at a corporate law firm is very difficult after a 3-year LLB from DU or private colleges. Most top firms seem to prefer 5-year NLU graduates.Is it even possible to get a decent-paying job after doing a 3-year LLB from DU or a private college?Because of this doubt, I am wondering if it is safer to drop law entirely and go all-out for government exams using my B.Sc. degree right now. I do not want to spend a lot of time and money on a private law degree if it will not lead to a good Or decent corporate job.What is the actual ground reality for placements for 3-year LLB graduates from DU or top private colleges? Can internships really bridge this gap, or is the corporate path mostly closed for us?
